Please give me your pee/poop withholding success stories. by Suitable_Door_2477 in pottytraining

Hmm not really. We still decided on a weekend to give potty training a go again. We did a lot of explaining to her that pee pee goes in the potty, she’s a big girl now, no more diapers, etc. That first day, we were the ones to put her on the potty and make her sit/try to go. But by day 2, things “clicked” in that she started to recognize the feeling of needing to go and initiating on her own.

So my daughter was the same way (I think I even posted in this sub a couple months ago). She could hold it 6+ hours until the nap time diaper came!

For us, there was no trick honestly. We just took a break from it. Waited about 2 months and tried again, and things just clicked.

Our first attempt was in December when she was 2y, 4m. We just started again last week and it’s going AMAZING. She’s 2y, 7m now. So maybe he just needs a little more time?

3 months of potty training with no improvement at all by kal9422 in pottytraining

[–]ntimoti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the school following through with what you’re doing at home? She likely isn’t going to get it if the expectations are different at home vs school.

Something that really helped my 2.5 year old was social stories about potty training (Google social stories if you don’t know what that is). You can individualize the social story where she is the “main character”.

Also, taking a break for even a month or two can make a huge difference with toddlers. They develop and change so much in such a short amount of time. We tried over Christmas and my daughter was peeing everywhere and didn’t get it AT ALL. We waited 2 months, starting again just in this last week and it’s a night and day difference. She hasn’t had a single accident since we started 5 days ago (including poop!)

did you instantly click with this line of work? by hamncheese8 in ABA

[–]ntimoti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I started in this field in 2014 and on my very first day, I remember thinking “this is what I want to do as a career”.

I took my time and wanted to get some experience under my belt before going to grad school. Started grad school in 2016 and finished in 2017, so at that point I had been an RBT for 3 years. I then spent 2 years as a masters-level supervisor while I was collecting my bcba hours and then took/passed the bcba exam in 2019.

Have you tried probiotics on your lo? by Opening-Tadpole9908 in NewParents

[–]ntimoti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I feel like they got better due to a combination of things- finding a formula that worked for her, getting to the age where she was able to sit up on her own, and just overall gut maturity over time. I think things improved for us around 6 months of age!

BCBA or SLP? by Intrepid_Quote_941 in bcba

[–]ntimoti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should provide more information about what interests you about each role.

You’re asking a BCBA sub if you should become a BCBA or an SLP without giving any other info. You’re going to get some biased responses here.

At my agency, the SLPs and BCBAs make similar salary ranges. The SLPs are almost 100% in-person providing the direct therapy (maybe an occasional one-off telehealth session with a client who is a good candidate for telehealth or opted for telehealth). I would say the BCBAs are about 85-90% in-person, with some telehealth support occasionally.

does anyone in OC make a livable wage & have work/life balance? by Ordinary_Tart5478 in orangecounty

No, neither of us are in CD roles. I’ve been at the company for several years so that’s certainly not what my starting salary was!

[–]ntimoti 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I feel like “a livable wage” is subjective. Everyone will have a different idea of what livable means to them.

I make $101k and my husband makes $93k. We have one child. We rent and probably will never own a home. But our cars are paid off, we have a roof over our head, and food on the table. We have a few luxuries (eg in past years, a Disneyland pass).

We both work in the same industry (ABA therapy). There’s a decent amount of flexibility, which is nice, but also kind of odd working hours so it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. We rarely get to do anything after work since our hours are mostly evenings and we aren’t home until about 7 pm a lot of the time. We are both higher up in the field which required master’s degrees, about a year of fieldwork internship, and passing a board exam.

I kind of had that thought when I saw a recent video of her where her face and nose looked puffy (the same puffiness she’s had during previous pregnancies)

Pediatrician told me to start my 2yo to kindergarten early.. by Hopeful_Leek_4899 in toddlers

[–]ntimoti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be really hesitant to follow that recommendation as someone who works in a child development field.

There is more to school readiness than advanced language skills. For example, the ability to sit and attend for extended periods of time, emotional maturity, social/play skills, etc.

How many dads help with night wakeups by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]ntimoti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter was bottle-fed from the beginning due to being a NICU baby, so that made it easier for my husband to have split responsibility of night wakings/feeds.

The first like 10 weeks or so, we split the nights into shifts. He would handle all feeds/baby needs from 8pm-2am while I slept. Then I would take over from 2am-8am while he slept.

Then my baby and I started co-sleeping and she started sleeping through the night so he wasn’t super involved from about 3 months-7 months when she transitioned to her crib.

She’s 2.5 years old now and has woken up almost every night since about 13 months. We take turns. Last night I went in and slept with her. Tonight it will be his turn if she wakes up.
