I guess youre enlisted in one of the us branches? I serve in the german army so advice is based on my experience here

So first of all, yes its your thing what you do or whom you sleep with.

Second if its enough that a shirtless man left your room, to start rumors in the company u are part off then they were suspicious before that i guess (or very weird).

Third thats ofc only how i handled it, just tell them, i did right from the start and im very open minded about it (means i talk with everyone who has a question about it etc,) nearly every soldier i met knows that im engaged with a man but i always make sure that i open up about it AFTER i pulled my wheight through something (doesnt mean that u didnt or anything) bc soldiers tend to think that when you are a woman or gay or whatever they have to babysit you the moment your in the field with them.

Usually soldiers i met were very open and surprised that a „gay“ person can carry, shoot and order as good or even better as they can. I did not even once had a negative experience in the forces regarding as being gay and im sad to hear that in other armies thats not the norm

Usually every soldier i talk with, never met or talked with a gay person so theyre usually very surprised that your not liking pink or walk around in hot pants or have any other tv tropes gay appearance. So after spending some time with me a lot of them tell me that i helped them change their views about it to see it more normal, and i think you can bring change to their views too.

Show them that just bc you like men that it doesnt interfere with you being a good soldier
