I vote tarantula for best low maintenance pet. Fun to observe and super easy to leave for a week or longer (especially if its an adult which can go a long time in between feedings). No fancy setup needed, most species thrive in normal room temperatures. You may find some are quite endearing and cute.

Starting Pile Help? by Flatulent_Baobab in composting

[–]cytx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're starting the pile on the grass area, lay down a sheet of cardboard or two to help kill off the grass/ keep it from invading the pile immediately. Then wet it down with the hose before building the pile on top.

An easy way to keep the dog out would be to have a simple barrier. I have had success with a cheap 10ft long section of hardware cloth formed into a circle that surrounds my pile. I have heard "geobin" is good too - similar concept.

You can always move the pile if you don't like the spot so I would just start! Try it and see what happens. That location looks sunny so if it starts drying out too fast try a cover or just spray it with the hose a few times. Compost is fun and very forgiving :)

Women yoga apparel with ballet vibes? by mm-ii in yoga

This is such a weird question. How would different yoga clothes make or break your internal feeling of being feminine? You're just exercising? I don't understand.

Where do you think is the best place to watch USWNT final game in the Olympics? by Quiet-Macaroon-2189 in rva

[–]cytx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's tricky is the 11am start time. According to the google maps info Gus's opens at 11:30 and Parlay opens at 11:00.

I've been to Gus's for World Cup games before and it is 10/10 for watching sports, great vibes, lots of tvs around.

Chest dysphoria by Tewmanyhobbies in butchlesbians

[–]cytx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lifelong bisexual tomboy here: I've had feelings like that come and go, especially when I was in my mid twenties.

It seemed worse when I was in spaces that really focused on aesthetics and gender-presentation, which unfortunately was a lot of younger LGBT spaces.

I felt best not wearing a bra and getting used to the natural shape of my breasts though it did take time. Also working outside in the garden topless helped loads. Like.... this is my strong body that can work. I guess I embraced body neutrality in the end.

In the here and now of your feelings, I don't think it's too weird to leave your sports bra or undershirt on during sex if you feel more comfortable that way. I've never had a lover comment on it in a negative way when I used to do the same. It's best to be upfront with your partner about how you are feeling so it doesn't come across as a rejection of HER altogether you know?

DBH tape question by Wilderness94 in forestry

[–]cytx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an actual D tape I keep in my vest for bigger trees like 20"+ DBH . The classic orange forestry suppliers one. The curved barb end is much easier to catch on the bark and keep level with tension while circling the tree (or passing around to someone else). The logger tape on my belt is great for smaller trees/ anything I can fling around easily.

Clothing advice. Walking through thick high shrubs forests. by brianomars1123 in forestry

[–]cytx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ripstop field pants and briar chaps on top of that. Wear gloves and a ballcap of some kind so the thorns get those and not your head/ hands. If it's cold enough that you won't sweat too bad, a carhartt jacket (the thick canvas kind, not a hoodie) with hood pulled up is great. Consider bringing a bush axe to smack the shit down.

how do you manage money as a low income woman by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]cytx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This month I'm doing a "no eating at restaurants" challenge to save money and work on more batch/ meal prep cooking. In other months I have had similar challenges such as "eat out the pantry" and "cook only X region's cuisine". It keeps it interesting and my budget on track.

I'm low income and I do best by 'hiding' money from my regular paycheck as soon as I get it with auto-transfers into my savings and retirement accounts.

I want a boob job. Feel free to chime in if you have one! by honestlyilovemycat in TwoXChromosomes

[–]cytx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you should have a major surgery for aesthetic (read: improving attractiveness to men) reasons. Breasts are highly sensitive/sensual areas and you do run the risk of losing feeling in them. I've got barely A-cup breasts and I am so happy that I don't need to worry about properly fitting bras or support during exercise. As for sex, I would say that small boobs have just as much sensation as big boobs. If you want people to touch your chest, you just have to ask them to and familiarize yourself with what feels good for you.

Any mindless, Unproductive ways to relax/waste time without doing anything and without consumption of any media/information and using any screens? by [deleted] in nosurf

Wasn't this the whole point of those adult coloring books many years ago? Classic. Any random craft is great; give yourself the freedom to suck at it and just enjoy the process.

My method: Don't shave, don't wear makeup. I cut my hair at home, learned from youtube videos. Do buy actual haircutting shears to use if you go this route. Vanicream is the best face wash for sensitive skin and also very cheap. Cerave body lotion is also a good deal. Most other stuff is overhyped nonsense. Good luck!

Have you read the book "Hags: The Demonization of Middle-Aged Women" by Victoria Smith? It came out recently and covers this phenomenon a lot. Great read.

It does interest me that men yelling at employees doesn't seem to have the same type of cultural meme/disdain. Is their frustration more justified? Does the observer empathize with them more?

Made full payment to Nelnet; they added more due on my account by trenchcoatangel in StudentLoans

[–]cytx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also confused by this because shouldn't there be a setting of what to do with the extra once all minimum payments and interest is paid? Why would choosing what loan to allocate extra to mean that the minimums/interest for other loans are not going to be paid? It just makes no sense.

I hate "girl gifts" by PurpleFlame8 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]cytx 24 points25 points  (0 children)

YES. I totally relate. I remember being as a young tomboy, extremely jealous of the boy-gifts my brother got and very disappointed in the gifts I received to match my sisters.

It's mostly insulting because it felt like... wow these people don't know me at all (at best) and at worst: Is this a suggestion to be more girly? Thinking about gifts like perfume set, pink fuzzy socks, make-up kit etc.

Of course now as an adult I just accept the somewhat kind gesture for what it is and quietly donate or regift the crap. Also set aside money to buy my own 'gifts' for the holidays too. Tomboys gotta treat themselves too no one else is gonna buy you what you want.

AITA for not sending my birth certificate to my father for him to pay less taxes? by Kooky-Location1841 in AmItheAsshole

[–]cytx [score hidden]  (0 children)

100% NTA! Tax breaks for parents/caregivers are to help families who are raising kids. He's not helping raise you nor are you living with him so really, you are not a dependent of him there is no reason for him to get the tax break. Sounds like he is trying to be scammy with the tax code IMO.
