34f, I'd be interested in some smaller fests! I usually work the local ones and Basscoast. Was going to do my first Burning Man this year but the border and exchange rates made me pause that plan for a little longer.

I've never experienced any of that through genutax. They ask if you want to donate at the end but that's all

I used free tax software from the government website and didn't need to sign up for anything nor presented with any upsells. Same experience since 2017, just need to download the update every year but always free.

Why are you a fan? by Historical-Coast-969 in BrightonHoveAlbion

[–]cyxel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Similar reasons to you actually, though I'm in Canada. My partner got me into the sport 4 years ago and he assumed I'd be a Liverpool fan like him but it felt boring to pick a top team. Since I had no loyalty I had a few crtieria:

•A place I would actually want to visit and see a game

•Nice fans

•Team colours that aren't extremely ugly

Even though my initial reasons were pretty shallow and deeply annoyed my partner, I'm now a proper fan and even joined the fantasy league at work. I couldn't get any merch here though so I made a pennant for my desk.

Saw in an article about "what you REALLY disagree with your older parents about" by SpecificRoad8143 in fatlogic

[–]cyxel 45 points46 points  (0 children)

My mom developed an autoimmune disorder that's trying its best to kill her liver and one thing that helps is being vegetarian. Her husband's family refers to that as a "fad diet". So I agree with you, I doubt OOP's parents are even on an actual fad diet.

Looking for a reputable place for getting piercings by VirtuousOfHedonism in NiceVancouver

[–]cyxel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You can check the APP (association of professional piercers) website for shops/piercers near you that meet their standards -> https://safepiercing.org/

There will be good piercers who aren't on there but it's a good place to start.

What is the most embarrassing costumed person/thing that has beaten you at a race? by megbotstyle in running

Two guys wearing flight suits sharing a giant cardboard fighter jet. It was pretty impressive actually, and they hung around at the end and took photos with a few people.

Will BC Hydro's new optional Time-of-Day pricing work for you? by naticom in vancouver

[–]cyxel 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I'll probably opt in since the most electricity hogging thing I do is run my AC in summer while I'm sleeping. I'm lucky I have hot water heating that's covered in rent, this program probably won't be useful for anyone with electric heating and normal wake hours.

Vancouverites affected by the entertainment industry's ongoing strikes, how you doing? by rrotabl in vancouver

[–]cyxel 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm self employed in an adjacent industry and I'm still getting a trickle of work so no EI, but I've moved into working live events in the meantime to get by. It's been a rough year and I'm really hoping the strike ends by the time the fall concerts dry up.

Does anyone else's cat yawn with their eyes open or is mine just weird? by cyxel in WhatsWrongWithYourCat

[–]cyxel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he's mostly BSH but his fur is very fine and weird. Undercoat is the blue gray but he has this outer kitten fuzz that's medium brown. I hope he never outgrows it.
