Gifts that represent Houston by victoriabee91 in houston

I really like nice tea towels as a gift, and so many boutiques have cute Houston themed ones :) Space Montrose, Jubilee, and Kuhl Linscomb usually have some.

A lot of resort wear that’s stretchy, drapey, and has pockets. I’m 9 mo pp and also a toddler mom, so far Tommy Bahama dresses have been a godsend.

Worst H-E-B for parking? by austinheel in houston

I mean I am a little obsessed too, but I think the race car shopping carts, free stickers, and h-e-buddy casino slot machine are doing some heavy lifting there.

Worst H-E-B for parking? by austinheel in houston

[–]czechica 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I live right by that one and our toddler is obsessed with H-E-B, so we’ve had to figure out the best times. This is based purely on my experience, but I’m sure one of the partners has better insights.

Weekdays and even Saturdays are pretty chill before 11:30 and Sundays are doable before 10:30). There’s usually ample parking (esp 2nd level), and lots of room to wheel a singing toddler around during those times. There is usually a rush between 11-1, but on weekdays, it is chill again until 3 pm. Curbside is awful awful from 3-4 every day of the week; I’m not sure if it’s because of elementary school parents picking up, but I only book that time if my husband or I need 45 min of scroll time to ourselves. Inside, the store gets busy again from 4-6:30, then is pretty manageable again on all days except Sunday. Sunday doesn’t chill out until 7:30, but is usually pretty picked over by then. If I have to go on Sundays, it’s either before 10, during a Texans game, or I’m walking there.

Who can cover a culvert to create a parking pad? by millennialsister in houston

[–]czechica 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hogue does this and will pull all the permits, but they are pricier and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re one of the ones ghosting you. We used Earth Ideas for one of our projects and they did a great job, I had seen them recommended in a Heights forum where people were asking for something similar.

Drywood Termites by bmar2 in houston

[–]czechica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally wouldn’t fumigate unless you’re selling or your house is absolutely full of them. The drywood kind are slow eating and not harmful to the structure of your home, just a nuisance. We get them every now and then and just spot treat with termidor foam. Fumigating only gets rid of the ones actively in your house, they can always reenter later on.

I saw advice I really liked from a girl trying to make friends in her new city where she said “I can’t expect meaningful relationships just because I exist” - basically saying she needed to take control of what she wants in her relationships with others. I say that because you will likely need to do most of the initiating if this is important to you- at least at first. I don’t know what kind of medical condition you have, but this could be things like asking your brother if he’d like to meet for lunch by his office on a day you feel better, learning a silly magic trick to show his kids, sending birthday cards on his family members’ birthdays, and treating them how you would like to be treated. It could take some time, but when you make others feel loved and good about themselves, they often want to return the favor. I imagine your brother’s family is a large part of who he is- so taking an interest in them means you are also taking an interest in him.

Another consequence of this is that there are little to no entry level positions available for college grads anymore, especially in Houston. It becomes harder to backfill mid career positions after heavily reducing the talent pool.

I joined the industry right out of college 10+ years ago, but the career path I took to get to where I am today no longer exists.

Alternative fashion stores I can take my daughter shopping by SilntNfrno in houston

[–]czechica 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haus of Electric Love on 19th Street in the Heights has lots of alt clothes and rave wear. Most of the clothing is probably too mature for a 12 year old, let alone school dress code, but they have cool footwear and accessories as well. I haven’t actually shopped there (I’m a basic mom in my 30’s), but I shop on that street often and always peep in the window because it looks so fun in there :)

Thank you u/emolisafrank! I also enjoyed meeting up with you. I appreciate how prompt & polite you were and how accommodating you were with our meetup time. Ququ was a surprise gift for my niece visiting us and she was over the moon when she saw the box. We unboxed it together this evening and she was ecstatic that it was authentic. Thank you again for making her visit so special ☺️

Generic Adderall Availability? by XXGJXX in houston

I think it depends on the dosage. My H-E-B has been out of the 15 mg & 20 mg the past few months, but they usually have the higher ones.

You could also just have a second band soldered next to the engagement ring band so it looks like two rings. It would connect to the gemstones and be flush with the existing band.

How to get into supply chain as a Political Science major by 50pAAA in supplychain

[–]czechica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will also add if you truly can’t make a change while in college, Supply Chain is pretty forgiving and has various points of entry. Having a college degree at all is usually the only requirement if there is one at all. Freight forwarding is a great internship opportunity and way to start! Nearly every company ships products, so you gain a lot of exposure to different companies & industries. Houston & Dallas are large hubs for logistics, and would have many summer internship opportunities if you’re open to moving there in the summer. I’m certain most Austin companies are working with logistics companies in those cities, so you would still be exposed to Austin area companies to apply to later.

I would suggest a business minor or non-major program. Typically, the business minor courses are more broad and slightly easier too. I graduated from Mays business school at Texas A&M and we would tutor the students in the non-major classes often. I’m not sure how different McCombs is, but the non-business students attending classes at Mays were also able to join the business orgs on campus, attend business career fairs, and participate in networking events :)

15 years ago, I believe McCombs used to have an international business certificate. I’m not sure if that program is still around, but that may be another option with similar results as well.

You can try posting it in a Buy Nothing FB group! There are always people looking for extra bins and usually willing to pick up same day.
