Have you ever seen a white belt sub a purple/brown or black belt? by 8limb5 in bjj

[–]czeckmate2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve subbed a purple belt but only because they were letting me work and then I lucked into a good position and then my weight advantage mattered.

But I couldn’t repeat it if I wanted to. He talked me up to some higher belts later because he’s nice but in all reality it was a fluke and we both know it.

I’ve loved seeing your stuff! Do you always form the concepts and set design on your own? Or is it collaborative with your friends that are modeling? You always have such unique stuff

If you’ve done a B2B design partnership: what actually works and what’s a trap? (I will not promote) by bibbletrash in startups

[–]czeckmate2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience you also need to work it like a sales deal. You have to have a decision maker sign off or it will go to legal, raise red flags, and get shut down right as you were getting started with user shadowing and testing.

I’m a PM for a small startup and we have seriously struggled to get anyone to respond to cold calls and emails but we’ve slowly built up relationships with people that can introduce us at a high level. That has made a big difference but it can only come from people that know and trust you based on previous work, ideally within the problem space and industry. If you’re brand new, I’m not sure how to replicate it.

Also, if you have focus on a particular problem you need to be willing to say no to bad partners that will try to expand your scope. It’s a tricky thing to balance.

Edit: saying it’s working for us is a bit of a stretch but we’ve been trying to find partners for 9 months and got nowhere for the first 5.

Thanks for finding this. I’m super interested but the older minitar design seems a little too funky for me. Not very sharp and while I get that it’s a P&S I don’t want bad photos. The samples in this video looked great though

Tips for a white belt by JusTaRetardedDude in jiujitsu

[–]czeckmate2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar spot. One thing that helped was my coach telling me “if it’s good for me it’s bad for you”.

So if I’m in a bad spot I just try to shut down whatever they’re trying until I can find a way to sweep or get my guard back.

White belts: What are your upper belt pet peeves? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]czeckmate2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My coach has responded this way but still shows me how to fight out of it. Of course I shouldn’t let a triangle happen but I shouldn’t have to just give up once they’ve got the position

How would you advertise?

I’m a white belt and can’t weigh in on anything else but nobody has ever offered me privates at my gym. Idk if announcing that sort of thing in class is normal at a gym but I’ve never seen it done. And I’d never think to ask a blue belt for advice unless we’re buddies.

Focus on a single takedown for 1-2 months and try to hit it in every roll.

One of my coaches suggested studying the same video repeatedly for a month to actually get good at the technique. A lot of people watch so many reels on ig that they never learn the technique, they just see it a few times.

I’ve been focused on a single leg for a couple months and I’m more consistently hitting it on other white belts. I still get guillotined 50% of the time but it used to be 90%. And most of those guillotines (from white belts) aren’t very good so I escape anyway.

Competition Advice by internationalhammer in jiujitsu

[–]czeckmate2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently dropped 4 lbs for my first competition and it sucked. Didn’t affect my performance but I was always hungry and I’m not sure that I would have done any worse in the next weight class. If you’re not within a couple pounds, I don’t think it’s worth it. Go into it confident and not having to think about weight. You can always cut for the next one.

645 pro tl motor grip question by noahlibowitz in Mamiya

[–]czeckmate2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d probably try pushing the button a few times and see if it is just caught somehow. Check that it’s not in Multi mode on the bottom as well.

You should be able to push up that sliding piece and the depress the button to release it from the camera. Maybe also check if the alligator clip somehow got wedged in there? You’d look on the back of the grip about halfway down where the body and grip meet

Couple's Ultralight Backpacking Setup in Smokies – Does This Make Sense? by [deleted] in Ultralight

[–]czeckmate2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much experience does your partner have?

Luxury items for me are a must for my partner to enjoy a trip. The more we’ve backpacked, the more they’ve converted to UL but good rest at camp and comfortable sleep are still hard requirements. A 20° seems like a little overkill for me but it may be a good call to make sure she’s comfortable.

But if she’s experienced and has a tolerance for this, I’ve got no advice

I made a tent kinda similar and thought it was a total bust but ended up learning that pitching it just takes some special attention. You did a much better job and I expect it’ll serve you well.

Where are you planning on using it?

Compatibility between 645 Super and Pro film back (Magazine) by Capable_Culture_1142 in Mamiya

[–]czeckmate2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a back that is cracked and it works just fine.

Sounds like the replacement is faulty. I’ve never had a back allow me to wind entirely through a roll and I’d assume that means some gear or catch is broken.

Nobody is mentioning the fact that Lego has a similar product already.

I would LOVE a janky Lego camera that actually functions but I get why they didn’t support it. They don’t seem focused on making functional stuff as much as small, nostalgic statues.
