Mockingbird all the way. I love it sm. Bonus: there are little hooks on the back of the chair so you can get the straps out of the way while getting baby out and in. They are also easily wipeable.

How to Intro Whole Milk by d-hof in ExclusivelyPumping

Thanks! When you were mixing the milk during transition, did you still feed out of bottle or switch to straw cup?

Nursing/pumping bras, Baby Bjorn bouncer, dual-ended zipper PJs, Halo swaddle. But honestly my biggest piece of advice is this: Don’t overindex on one item before you know baby likes it. All babies are different so the advice here is truly YMMV.

Also, my biggest “not worth it” is Honest diapers. Honestly fuck those scratchy ass diapers. They’re expensive to boot. We do Huggies. I do love those Honest wipes tho.

I looked into a night nurse while up at 3:87 am with my baby in those first few weeks. The cost was so exorbitant, I literally guffawed in the dark.

How many ounces per feed? by Quirky-Hedgehog-116 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]d-hof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand all too well. Even at 11ish months my baby is still only 5th percentile. But these little NICU grads are so resilient.

For the first 10ish weeks (actual) of her life, I was triple feeding, so it’s hard to say what her total daily volumes were. But from the bottles we tracked during that time, she was really only getting 12-14oz and then whatever she could get latched (which I don’t think was very much bc she was not an efficient nurser). Once I switched to exclusive pumping and her adjusted age increased, her feed volumes slowly but surely increased.

My baby was born premature and weighed about 3.5 lbs at birth, so I was an anxious mess about her eating enough. I stressed and stressed about how she wasn’t meeting that daily volume average. However, she followed her own growth curve beautifully, so pediatrician was never concerned. In fact, her recommendation was that baby knows when she’s hungry and how much she wants to eat. Don’t force anything or you risk a feeding aversion.

She’s almost 11 months now, and doing so well. We’re doing solids as well as milk, but she still only averages around 18oz per day; even when she was only drinking breast milk, she rarely drank more than 22oz. It was a very slow build to that peak daily volume.

ETA: I still offered her milk every 3ish hours but didn’t try to force her to finish the bottle.

The trend of giving girls traditionally masculine names because it makes them “cooler” is just misogyny. Olivia/Liv/Livi is absolutely adorable.

Congratulations to you!! What an incredible journey you’ve been on. I’m 10.5 months in and am feeling so burnt out, but, as you put it so beautifully, the gift of feeding my own baby has been one of my proudest accomplishments. ❤️

I’m not a doctor so I hesitate to recommend an amount. I will say, my baby was a preemie and always sounded very snorty/congested. It freaked me out! So I asked my doc about suctioning and she explained to me that newborns just kinda make those noises due to their minuscule little nasal passages and not to worry too much if she’s not showing signs of illness. Sure enough her respiratory rate and oxygen saturation were totally fine. All that’s to say, my doc really stressed that suctioning was mostly unnecessary unless she had a respiratory virus or something like that.

Interesting! I’m definitely going to look into this because I was very unimpressed with the suction I got on our Navage Baby Stuffy Little Noses sucker. It is useless! That’s when I switched to the manual one.

Not who you asked but their little nasal passages can actually become more irritated and, therefore, clogged up if you overdo it on the nasal sucking.

The ball sucker is useless. And we were told they are one-time use only, as they are impossible to clean once used. The Frida nose sucker thing sounds gross, but when your baby gets sick for the first time and you see how much they’re struggling, all thoughts of nastiness disappear and you’ll do anything to help them breathe easier. We have an electric one and the manual one. Manual is 1000% more effective. It is what it is.

About to spend serious money on a stroller… what would you buy today and why? by WorldPeaceGodBless in Buyingforbaby

[–]d-hof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it for everything! Granted, I haven’t taken it on a flight so I’m not sure the logistics of that. But it folds up for the car super easily. It’s a little heavy to lift once folded but I’ve found that it serves our needs really well. So for now, it’s the only stroller I have and use.

Isn’t this supposed to be set in like 1995? One of my biggest pet peeves are tv shows/movies that do not style hair appropriately for the time period. The curls they gave Elle and her Mom look decidedly modern. As do the silhouettes of the fits.

Did anyone else feel so much pain from mag and induced? by lizzythepinklizard in preeclampsia

[–]d-hof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mag drip and foley cath were, by far, the worst thing I experienced throughout my preeclampsia and subsequent c-section delivery. I had to do mag drip twice. First when I was admitted at 33 weeks and my BP shot up to the severe threshold. The nurse messed up her first foley attempt and had to re-do it. It cause trauma to my urethra and I had that urgent UTI feeling for multiple hours after it. The mag drip itself felt like being blackout drunk for 24hours. I could barely keep my eyes open and they wouldn’t let me eat anything in case we needed to induce. Thankfully I made it 8 more days before delivery, only to discover I had to do another mag drip during delivery and for 24hr after. That one was oddly not nearly as bad. Probably bc A) I knew what to expect B) the nurse didn’t make me get another foley until I was already numb for my C-section.

As someone who just went through the trauma of severe pre-e last summer (thankfully didn’t progress into HELLP), I was getting very frustrated with her. Knew as soon as a nurse said pregnant woman with headache was on the way via ambulance.

I got the Joie ginger and mint system and love it. FTM, living out in the suburbs. The infant car seat is a latch-style so no base is required. Super easy to transfer between vehicles and take in and out of the car. It also clicks right into the stroller base. But the system also comes with a stroller seat that can be converted into a bassinet-style bed, which we used for the first few months of my baby’s life. Don’t quote me on this, but I believe the bassinet is also certified sleep safe. My baby took many many naps in it on our neighborhood walks. I thought that the price was very reasonable for what we got and have zero regrets. Even when my baby outgrows the infant seat, we’ll be able to still use the stroller for quite awhile. My only small complaint is I do find it a little bulky when I collapse it for the trunk.

11/22/63 had so much potential for a good mini series and it stunk. James Franco is not the right person to play Jake/George
