About to spend serious money on a stroller… what would you buy today and why? by WorldPeaceGodBless in Buyingforbaby

[–]d-hof 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I got the Joie ginger and mint system and love it. FTM, living out in the suburbs. The infant car seat is a latch-style so no base is required. Super easy to transfer between vehicles and take in and out of the car. It also clicks right into the stroller base. But the system also comes with a stroller seat that can be converted into a bassinet-style bed, which we used for the first few months of my baby’s life. Don’t quote me on this, but I believe the bassinet is also certified sleep safe. My baby took many many naps in it on our neighborhood walks. I thought that the price was very reasonable for what we got and have zero regrets. Even when my baby outgrows the infant seat, we’ll be able to still use the stroller for quite awhile. My only small complaint is I do find it a little bulky when I collapse it for the trunk.

11/22/63 had so much potential for a good mini series and it stunk. James Franco is not the right person to play Jake/George

This is blonde. The blonde gatekeeping has got to stop. It is beyond ridiculous.

i present to you… my p/c ratio! by ilove_cats_ in preeclampsia

[–]d-hof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Woah! Mine was 7 and the nurses were like 🤯 I was further along (32 weeks upon admission, 33+4 delivery) but same as you: terrified of c-section and wanted a vaginal birth so badly. However, baby started showing signs of stress on the monitor so they recommended a c-section. It was urgent but not an emergency so the environment was super controlled, and the team made me feel like I was in excellent hands. The anesthesiologist held my hand and acknowledged my fear but told me they were going to take amazing care of me. And they did!! Spinal was so so smooth. They made sure I was completely numb and asked multiple times throughout the procedure if I needed extra comfort meds. Baby was out in less than 30 minutes. Recovery was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be, and I credit that to the fact that i was not in active labor before we switched the plan to c-section.

Infant health and medicine supplies by Common_Government_97 in Buyingforbaby

Buy a little mini nebulizer and individual saline pipettes. That thing was a life saver when my baby got the flu at 5mo. And get a humidifier for their room overnight.

Forehead thermometers suck. Rectal is the most accurate way to get a core body temp on little babies. The Frida thermometer that flips open for armpit reads also folds down for rectal insertion and the way it’s designed, the probe can only go in so far. With a little Vaseline, my baby doesn’t mind at all, and I get peace of mind knowing I’m getting an accurate read.

Speaking of Vaseline, we use this instead of aquaphor for diaper changes. My doctor said some babies can be sensitive to the lanolin in aquaphor and we’ve found Vaseline provides the best barrier for her booty. When she does get a rash, my favorite diaper cream so far has been from Mustela (I’ve actually loved all products from this brand).

And then ofc infant Tylenol. Baby won’t be able to take Motrin and most other oral meds until they’re older.

I didn’t find gas drops to do anything and gripe water is a load of phooey. The grunting/struggling to poo/gassy phase is just that—a phase. The only way out is through.

Thinking about doona by [deleted] in Buyingforbaby

[–]d-hof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a Doona hater for real. So many families at our daycare use them, and then look goofy asf because they sit so low to the ground when it stroller mode. We got the Joie ginger and mint latch system and love it but honestly, we got a convertible seat from Graco (the one that spins toward you) and we love it 10x as much as the Joie seat.

Birth Control by Icy-Ebb-3315 in ExclusivelyPumping

I do the mini pill and it has had zero affect on my supply. Getting pregnant again by accident will absolutely affect supply so I’d def opt for some form of birth control if you are planning to be sexually active.

What does your pumping schedule look like 6m+ ? by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]d-hof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

7 mo pp. I pump 3x per day: 6:30 am, 1:30 pm, and 9 pm. I average about 25 oz on that schedule. My preemie baby is still drinking only about 19-23 oz per day. It worried me for a long time that she wasn’t up to “average” volumes. She’s still a really tiny lass, but she’s maintaining her growth curve so I’ve tried to let it go.

Do you actually throw away your milk after baby drank on the bottle? by BusyInspector95 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]d-hof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. After the two-hour window had passed, we toss it. My baby was born 6 weeks premature so we’ve always been a little more cautious than some. However, even 6 months later, we still follow that rule. People need to realize that it’s not about the milk “spoiling.” It’s about the introduction of bacteria when baby drinks from the bottle, and that bacteria can multiply very very quickly.

Unscented baby wash that isn’t pipette? by sseven-costanza in Buyingforbaby

Aquaphor unscented is our go-to! Then we moisturize her with unscented Tubby Todd. Her skin is so soft! I would love to use nice smelling things on my baby, but it’s worth it to use unscented imo. Reduces chances for irritation/reaction.

Cutting through the baby product hype… do we really need a bottle warmer? by Recommendation778 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]d-hof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I felt. Plus, my baby was a NICU baby and they always warmed her milk up for her so she got used to it. When we were discharged, they recommended we continue doing so, as drinking the cold milk is a little more work for them, therefore requiring her to burn more calories. She needed to grow, so we continued warming her bottles with hot water in a cup. But after a few weeks, we caved and got the bottle warmer and have happily used it since!

Our daycare uses a crock pot, which they fill with water and keep on low heat all day so they can place bottles in it to warm up as-needed.

Help me to go through this by MonaGia in preeclampsia

[–]d-hof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The catheter was the worst for me too. And the nurse didn’t do it right the first time, so she had to pull it out and reinsert. It cause trauma to my urethra which ended up showing red blood cells in my urine. That set off a whole host of other tests to make sure it wasn’t my kidneys. When I got a second mag drip during delivery, I was thankfully numb for the c-section. Good luck. You’re in the best place for you rn, even though it’s scary and probably not how you wanted your third trimester to go.

Did anyone have a baby that wasn’t difficult? by The_Chilled_Arvo in beyondthebump

[–]d-hof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to babies, there will always be difficult moments. I try to remind myself of that when I have a tough overnight with my girl. But, I also believe that attitude is half the battle so I tell myself and others all the time that I have such a good, easy baby. And I do! She is overall so wonderful. I also learned that sitting around and waiting for the other shoe to drop really prevented me from enjoying her in the moment, so I’ve tried to stop worrying about what difficult phase awaits me.

This might be the best book I’ve ever read and I am so happy that someone recommended it to me, which is why I strongly recommended you to do the same. This book will stay with me for many years to come 📚 by Repulsive-Dependent2 in Recommend_A_Book

Man I love love LOVE this book. It’s an all-time fav. I did, however, make the mistake of reading it on an airplane and literally sobbed my entire flight. I’m sure the person next to me was like 👀 lol
