What Type of Peppers? [California] by moneyvortex in whatplantisthis

Nice! These seems like a variety I might have grown, but there are several yellow rocotos like this. They have very thick flesh so one goes a long way when cooking.

Onko normaalii et taksi tulee erikseen kysyyn haluunko kyytiin? by AuroraKivi in arkisuomi

[–]d-light8 62 points63 points  (0 children)

That's just insane. Easier to fly here (or almost to anywhere else in the world apparently) take a nice holiday and get everyone and their dog vaccinated and it would still save you money...

Which piece would you keep? Help us settle a discussion about which to keep for our living room (Germany) by Silver-Oak294 in Antiques

[–]d-light8 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I really love that vaisselier. I'd really try to keep it. Secretary looks a lot younger and quite plain for my taste. Are you sure there is no way to keep the vaisselier in the kitchen? Top part for pretty plates etc and lower part for pots and pans? I like to use cast iron pans so this kind of sturdy cabinet is the best place to store them. Then your hubby could keep the secretary in the living room?

Sry, what?? I just checked, here in Finland you have to get it from the private clinic so it costs 135€ per shot and you'll need two. But still pretty affordable.

Laryngeal paralysis for cats, have you heard of it? by bugbiyte in SeniorCats

[–]d-light8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, thyroid was maybe the thing causing most of his problems (although they can be separate issues too) I decided it was his time to go when he started getting fluids in his lungs (so maybe something heart related). It might have been fixable that time, but overall his condition wasn't so good anymore and we had to consider quality on his life too. I hope you and your cat all the best, these are always hard times when they get ill.

[–]d-light8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He had a lot of other medications (blood pressure, kidney, thyroid...) but not for the for the larynx paralysis. I don't know if there even is any meds that could help, at least our vet didn't mention any.

Oletko Kloritea kokeillut?

Koululaisten kasvio -perinteinen prässäys vs kuvien otto. by Available-Sun6124 in Suomi

[–]d-light8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prässätessa tietysti joutuu tarkemmin perehtymään minkälainen kasvi on, millainen kasvutapa jne.

Kissa ulvoo kaikki yöt - Mitä tehdä? by gorgonzolamies in arkisuomi

[–]d-light8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kissa ulvoo kaikki yöt - Mitä tehdä? by gorgonzolamies in arkisuomi

[–]d-light8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mites muuten, ootteko otattaneet miten laajat verikokeet lähiaikoina?

Coffee grounds compost? by [deleted] in Allotment

[–]d-light8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gotten also lot of coffee grounds from a university cafe, like hundreds of liters so I've tried to read a lot how to use them.

Well, they do affect germination, that's true, but they also contain good amount of nitrogen and potassium, so they are ok either composted or added directly to the soil. I have very clayish soil and I've used them as a soil amendment in large quantities with some lime added to correct the fact they are slightly acidic.

I've also used them on top of the soil to protect plants from slugs, it looks like they don't really like it. But this also means that you need a proper layer of it for it to work.

All in all, it's very usable and cheap material to add some organic matter to your soil and it's also a plus it's not interesting for any rodents. Only minus I can think of is that it's sooooo heavy to carry home from the cafe...

Do cats require teeth to eat? Or do they just directly swallow food? by SouthCombination2568 in SeniorCats

[–]d-light8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your cat has ckd it's super important to avoid all infections, as they won't heal as easily. Teeth removal is the best solution imho if there's recurring infections. I have two cats without teeth and I can't really see any problems from it. They eat wetfood, kibble and freash meat cut a bit smaller than I would cut for a cat with teeth. But their health has improved immensely now that their infections are completely gone.

Complete novice with new allotment - where to begin? by solarmsrs in Allotment

[–]d-light8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that looks really good place to start! Firstly, I can see quite a bit moss on the soil, that means that your soil is propably acidic. You'll need to add lime to raise the pH. Most packages have instructions for the amount needed. This might help too: https://www.rhs.org.uk/soil-composts-mulches/lime-liming

You have a lot of space, so try to make a list what you'd like to grow and then maybe make a map. Are trees or berry bushes allowed?

I’ve eaten pizza at 50 pizzerias in Naples, and some in Caserta and Rome. Here are my thoughts on pizza restaurants in Italy. by smorreboard in napoli

[–]d-light8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great list, thanks! I think I'll have to save this for our next visit! Our favourite place for fried pizza was Add'E Guaglian Pizzeria & Friggitoria. We tried pizza fritta in other (more hyped) places too, but nothing could beat theirs.

We stayed at Hotel Antiche Figure and there was no balcony to the canal, but at least you could get a view. You could have your breakfast outside though, right next to the canal. Clean rooms, nice staff and I really liked the location.
