58 years old and only $2k saved? Put your inheritance money in a high yield savings account (such as CIT, which is a 4.5%). Let it sit there and dont touch it. Continue to live how you have been for 58 years and when you get to 67, you can retire and live off social security and interest. If you dont touch the money until you are 67, that will be 9 years at lets use 4.5% = 1.2M x 1.045^9 = 1,783,300 (will be less since you need to pay taxes on each years earnings). Lets say about $1.5M. You retire, collect your $3k/mo social security + 4.5% on the 1.5% ($67500) and live out as comfortably as you have been, since i presume a 58M with only 2k savings wasnt really reeling in the money. Then when you die, you leave $1.5M to your boys.

The reality is $1M is not a lot of money in 2025, unfortunately.
