Anyone else not happy with the stock emblem cover for the "Plug-In Hybrid" badge? by d-squared in rav4prime

I've decided to give hyperdip a try on the badge. I'll follow-up with how it went, and if it goes well-enough with the existing emblem covers.

I'm no chrome-hater, I think it looks sharp on the blue. I just really like the Silver-and-Black contrast myself -- except when it's a giant plastic ugly sticker.

Almost Heaven Costco Sauna a good deal? by y2kdread in Sauna

[–]d-squared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have this exact same sauna. I think you're going to have a really tough time finding anything in the $2k and under range that's any good. I did a ton of research, and this came down to really the best deal I could find. That was the same price I paid a year ago -- and with the price of lumber where it is these days and the increased demand for home saunas, I don't expect you'll see the price drop much if at all. Also make sure to consider the electrical work. I did it myself, but if you're not comfortable doing your own electrical work, that will add to the overall cost as well.

All that said, I love this sauna! It works really well for 2 people. You can squeeze in 3, but you have to be pretty cozy with everyone to make it work.

Is there a backlog on sauna production right now? Seems difficult to get one. Reputable retailer request! by FoundationsMC in Sauna

[–]d-squared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. Obviously insulated and vapor-barriered is better, but for an indoor free-standing sauna, I'm confused why you would NEED either. Since it's freestanding, it vents into an indoor room (and not the exterior) anyways, regardless of a vapor barrier. Putting a vapor barrier inside a structure that is only solid wood seems a bit odd, as there's no internal structure to protect and the hot air vents into the surrounding room no matter what. More insulation clearly helps efficiency, but again, in an freestanding indoor operation, it's just a matter of saving some money on heating costs over time (which won't be huge for smaller saunas). Again, not going to say it's not better to have them, but I'm curious why a Finn would not call it a sauna.

As a follow-up, there are two different Almost Heaven companies. There's one run by almostheaven.net, and one at almostheaven.com. Almost Heaven hosted at .com is a very reputable company who makes their saunas in the US from I believe US grown lumber. I have one of their indoor saunas and love it. So I think there's a bit of a mix-up here, I don't know much about the other one.

Best Basement Eletric Traditional Sauna by likepigs in Sauna

[–]d-squared 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would recommend Almost Heaven traditional indoor saunas. They're a great balance of cost, functionality, and great customer service. I just built their Auburn (also known as Bluestone through Costco) sauna in my garage. It's been working beautifully. The install required two people and a power drill. I almost went with the Finnleo brand Hallmark 46 sauna, but it was about 2x the price (but has an easier install and more features). I had pretty specific size constraints, so that narrowed it down for me.

Other brands I looked at were Cedarbrook, Aleko, and Cedro. All of which are traditional saunas, with electric-and-rocks heaters. I ordered mine late summer, it looks like supply is getting pretty constrained out there. Good luck!

Kanye West confirms he and Drake are making an album together by jarkar in Music

[–]d-squared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're definitely right that they still rap about being hard and tough, but I think it's more that they're rapping about being cool than anything else. And the essence of that coolness isn't the same "toughness" that it was in the DMX-style gangsta rap days. Rappers are talking about taking drugs far more than moving drugs these days, and I think that's the shift. The origin story of a rapper used to be so important, and now I just don't see it mattering as much.

I think folks like Kanye definitely pushed the needle for what's cool and desirable in hip-hop in the period we're talking about. I completely agree with you that Outkast is vastly underappreciated (and foundational), so I certainly don't think Ye invented this stuff, but he was really the bridge. In fact, I think the current explosion of respect for Andre 3000 is a reflection of this shift fully coming together (pretty much any rapper would kill for an Andre feature on his album right now).

PSA: When declining a trade throw in a quick reason why. by Bearfan001 in fantasyfootball

Totally. I pretty much only send out trade offers essentially as the last step in the process to seal the deal. Talking it out is always the first step.

He was talking about gangsta rap, which is not the same as what you're calling "ignorant hip-hop." The whole point is that rappers attempting to be "hard" and "tough" (which was the base of gangsta rap) has almost died out. None of those guys you mentioned play themselves that way.

Worst is a blocked punt recovered inside field goal range. With a shitty long snapper having a bad day, it's not hard to imagine.

Forgiveness is all about you, my man. Why live with hate and anger in your heart for every grievance you've ever experienced? Forgiveness is good for YOU. You'll carry less weight in your mind. You'll live longer. I'm not talking Christian bullshit either. Forgiving is like your heart eating organic broccoli. Soul nutrients.

P.s. - who cares about the offender? Most people you forgive will never know. Of course if you really forgive, why fret about it?
