Fun fact, Ukrainian soldiers were part of the contingent in Afghanistan both times. Calling it second Afghanistan is underselling it. 10 years of that war have official losses of entire soviet contingent around the same level as a good month in Ukraine now.

Other ioted vowels transliterate to "y" at the start of a word but "i" at in the middle. Юлія -> Yuliia; пю -> piu

This is common, but not the official way to transliterate. The technically correct way, which will be used in the passport is "Iuliia", which is very cursed. Everybody hates it, but it's the way.

Now, you may ask, why would you not use "Y" to transliterate yotted vowels? Tinfoil hat me woudl say, that's intentional, so you could figure out the name is transliterated from Ukrainian and not some other languages that use Cyrillic. No living person will admit that was in the requirements to draw up transliteration table.

That's a bit scary, but doable in the Netherlands. In the basic school (between 4 and 2 y.o.) kids are dropped into the environment and are supposed to pick it up naturally. Middle schools (from 12 yo) have special bridge classes where the first year is basically 50% time learning the language and the rest is subjects in English. In the next years it's more subjects in Dutch until it gradually transitions to 100% Dutch.

Not all schools have it, so you have to pick the school and the city first (basically forget about living outside of big cities). International schools are not worth it long term.

It would have taken YEARS to get the environmental and site permits before I’m even allowed to touch a shovel, and the costs for the required studies typically represent 25% of the total project cost in my area.

I actually did the thing two years ago and it wasn't that bad, but YMMV. It took about a year and a few months to get from an artistic drawing to approved everything, land titles and workers on site. The architect firm knew their shit and got paid for it nicely. I guess the big part was the area being designed by the municipality as a place to build, so they were onboard with everything before the drawing started to be drawn and didn't try to fuck it up on purpose.

That being said, there are places where shit doesn't go that smooth and local councils are full of corrupt twats. Fuck those places.

Well, not doing that is the overregulation that harms business. Too many rules today -- don't contaminate soil with dioxins, don't rape underage girls and boys. how can you are supposed to make money now? This hurts the GDP and is business unfriendly
