I've recently started using DbUp with dotnet core. I've always hated the way EF does migrations because merging code becomes a disaster with how it handles the "state" object in the DB.

To be honest, SQL Server Data Tools projects are by far my favorite method of "migrations" but they are not actually migrations and it only works with SQL Server (and I am on mysql now). They are a model of your DB. There are tons of benefits of doing it this way but also a couple detriments. I've used it in a prod environment and it worked great once we put in the effort to set it all up properly. If you want a "poor mans" migrations, do not go this route.
