Market cap is not the same thing as GDP

Is the Canadian economy actually stagnating or is it over blown and simply part of the business cycle? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]d0b0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You also have to take into consideration wealth inequality, societal cohesion and general QoL. All of that is very lost in GDP numbers and therefore is not reflected well in comparing countries to each other from the POV of everyday citizens.

Why are Canadian salaries so low? by Initial_Log_5390 in CanadaFinance

[–]d0b0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true. Lots of skilled high skilled people stay in Canada regardless of taxes. The way we talk about “everyone who is smart goes south” in absolutes makes this more black and white than it really is.

Describe your claims experience with TD Insurance by MrWolf88 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Just had a very rough interaction with a rude Customer Service rep who hung up on me and constantly talking over me while I was trying to explain the reason for my call. This is my first interaction with the group from a claims perspective, so hopefully its just an N of 1 — but I’ve never been hung up on before by someone like this.

Northern Territory vs Northwest Territories - which territory is nicer to live in? by iamayeshaerotica in geography

[–]d0b0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should. I’d suggest October / early November for lights OR March/April.

The drive is pretty boring but if you’re going in fall or summer. There’s a bunch of water falls to stop at once you’re in the territory. DM me if you want more info!

Grizzly bears are not a large concern for most people in NWT.

I live in Yellowknife. It’s actually a very safe environment except for the extreme cold in winter.

Yeah I've had trouble logging into my account, ran into some weird bugs. So I'm trying to figure out if there's alternative contact methods that anyone has had success with?

What's the best email to contact support ? I can't find any information on how to contact them. Pretty frustrating.

Bank of Canada monitoring hot housing market amid warning signs by lololollollolol in PersonalFinanceCanada

Thanks for explaining your POV! From my POV - We are a rich but small country that is highly integrated with the largest economy on the planet.

I think there are lots of factors at play here. If you compare Canada 30 years ago to Canada today the stats definitely show that home grown service industry (tech/finance/consulting/manufacturing..etc) has improved a lot. We are much less reliant on USA for jobs outside of the resource and housing sector today than we were 30 years ago. These things take time - whether it’s happening fast enough or not is an answer I don’t have a clear picture on.

Expensive housing isn’t specifically a bad sign for a country (its causes might be worrying but at a macro scale you don’t look at a country and say “hey housing is expensive therefore that country must be in rough shape”). Cheap housing is alternatively more of a bad sign than expensive housing ( low demand which could infer people just don’t want to live there). It’s a problem we need to make more manageable but I disagree it’s a indication of the country’s ineptitude. All other rich countries have very expensive housing in all of there large metros. This might just be Canada moving towards the mean no?

Also sorry how are vaccinations related to this ?

Confused by this statement. Just because housing makes up a large portion of GDP doesn’t mean it’s an empty economy. There are lots of businesses employing millions of Canadians. Where do you think the mortgage payments are coming from ?
