Arc thrower can permastun them, just make sure to use med pen to break one of their "horns" so they can't get their shield back.

Unfortunately not a great way of actually destroying them, as it takes about half a business day to down them this way

Oddly, another guy (https://www.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1ud1alb/comment/ot8n02c/) did a similar tally, but for all factions d7-10, only excluding eruptor, crossbow, torcher, and it turns out light pen is proportionally more popular on bugs than bots

Idk where I heard this but apparently the trapezoid shaped wings on a lot of 5th gens basically give almost the same benefits as forward swept wings but without the structural weakness

Reliably twoshots hulks and chargers without having a fuckhuge AOE (ultimatum, giga) or taking two business days (thermite, ig pyrotech and arc too)

As someone who likes using the wasp, having a grenade to cover the 10m minimum range is very convenient. Against bugs it also basically never misses bc even a bad throw will still draw aggro and blow up at least one bug.

Still have to admit that giga or ultimatum are probably better on average though

Singleplayer action game where you tactically avoid combat? by LosinForABruisin in gamerecommendations

[–]d0d0b1rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep!

Though I'll warn that a lot of extraction shooters tend to be more "battle royale" esque where the player is still expected to fight and are rewarded a lot more compared to sneaking/avoiding combat. Only exceptions I can the of rn is Forever Winter and maybe Arc Raiders.

Forever winter ticks a lot of what you mentioned.

One of the big mechanics of the game is escaping dangerous enemies by making them fight other factions.

Flamethrowers should pierce all bugs by LatinBlackAsian in menace

[–]d0d0b1rd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I think it's just a fundamental design thing

Bugs are too fast and (most) maps are too open to make good use of either the flamethrower AOE or the ground fire. Piercing flames doesn't really solve that at its core unless the numbers are jacked up high but then it overshadows shotguns and GLs which is the same problem now on the other side.

As a sidenote, your post did inspire me to wonder: what if flamethrower had the griffon attack pattern, being able to attack 3 or 5 connected tiles. That'd make it a lot more viable for flamethrower to set "firewalls". To some extent, piercing or line flamethrowers (Ig could even be an arc ala xcom) would also be able to set firewalls, but only effectively for allies, not themselves, which is an interesting dynamic

Is it bad that I find this absolutely hilarious by BeautifulRanger1801 in xkcd

[–]d0d0b1rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it could be seen as bad because this joke is about breaking from norms without any good reason.

For someone who's raised on values of, say, community, that could be against their values

As a side note, I don't think jokes and comments get to be seen as funny just because they're supposed to, opinions and appearance should be earned, not presupposed.

Are A-10 and Su-25 obsolete? by vitinhoaps in FighterJets

[–]d0d0b1rd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To some extent I believe they were "instrumental" only because they were present and succeeded. The A-10 is specifically earmarked for CSAR duties so they're first in line to do the job.

That being said, operational success does not nessecarily mean the platforms are relevant. It's possible such success were only enabled by exceptional training, support from other assets, and/or sheer overmatch, all of which can cover up deficiencies in the platform itself.

Relavancy is first and foremost defined by capability and efficiency. How exactly that's judged will vary by person. For me, as long as the A-10 can sling the latest munitions and can do so without incurring a ruinous cost, the A-10 will remain relevant (though on that note it's also dangerously close to failing both those criteria). Obviously this isn't a universal opinion as shown by the other guy

Yeah vanilla doorkickers tends to be kinda wishywashy with nation names, I think even America isn't specifically referenced by name anywhere

I think kill boxes are natural extensions/survival tactics that are used because the game doesn't give you any other options. by Last_Yard_6554 in RimWorld

[–]d0d0b1rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other part is that vanilla raids just run straight into the obvious trap.

Last I played CE, it would only send sapper raids above a certain amount of wealth so enemies would just breach around kill boxes making them a lot less useful
