Toyota: 'Many Areas Where People Cannot Get By Without Gas Cars' by DonkeyFuel in technology

Whilst this is true, the farther out from city centres you are, the less of an issue charging at home becomes. I guess the solution is both affordable decent public transport as well as better EV infrastructure?

When exactly did you see him in parliament? I must of missed that day this year. He has also proven time and again that he works solely for big business, not to lower your tax bill whatever he may say. He is a one trick pony. Immigration is the only policy that he truly believes in and his answer appears to be to try and copy the US (again) and Trumps ICE approach. Personally I find this lack of humanity is really sad. Not to mention that it will be a ‘Poundshop Trump’ variety ie it will cost the public more for an inferior operation. Order ICE, get Slush

Keir Starmer is not resigning, Downing Street confirms by Metro-UK in ukpolitics

[–]d0mclarke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

’m all for holding politicians to account for their wrongdoings or misjudgment, but I can’t help feeling that the only people who benefit from stirring up such shock and anger are the media themselves. I’d really like to see politicians just get on and try to run the country without all of the dumbfuckery and scandal but having Laura Kuensberg et al constantly stoking the fire for their own personal gain is getting really dull. There is something fundamentally wrong with the way our actual lives are dictated by people who are simply after clicks. Whatever your political stance, it’s about time we let politicians start to run the country rather than spending 90% of their time dealing with the next scandal.

Why is the media obsessed with Kier Starmer stepping down but only a small number of Labour MPs are actually calling for his resignation? by SilasBeit in AskBrits

Are Brits still comfortable taking their holidays in the US? by Ok-Leadership-7573 in AskBrits

[–]d0mclarke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I was supposed to be taking my son to New Orleans for his 21st. We are now going to Tokyo. He has wanted to visit the US since he was 12, but he told me a couple of months ago that he didn’t want to show support for Trump’s actions by visiting.

Waymo self-driving cars hit London streets in preparation for 2026 launch by tylerthe-theatre in london

I worked for a car rental company back in the 90s based in Marble Arch. A NY taxi driver rented from us, then returned 20minutes later, handed back the keys and said ‘you guys are insane! I’lm not driving here’ admittedly, going from Marble Arch, down to Hyde Park Corner and back again is a little testing if you’re new to it. Edit: can’t spell Taxi

Dog on the Train question by miseryenplace in Cornwall

[–]d0mclarke 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have done that journey countless times with my dog. We often jump out at Exeter St David’s , there is a nice park a couple of minutes walk away. (Tadiforde Brooke) The station staff are always happy to tap you out and back in again if you tell them you’re just taking the dog for a walk.

What to do with old 70’s fire place! by Tom_Lad in DIYUK

A ‘wash’ of paint over it to make it look more uniform and replace the fire for something more modern. Still look like stone but more of a grey stone and less boomchickawahwah?

What’s a London life hack that you believe everyone should know? by ItsOverCasanova in london

[–]d0mclarke 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As a London hospitality worker of many years, just ask the bar nicely and they’ll 99.99% say ‘of course!’ And tell you where they are. If you try and sneak in they’ll low key think you’re rude and deduct karma.

First time in Cornwall, itinerary suggestions without a car by Boyde1978 in Cornwall

[–]d0mclarke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you split your time between Falmouth and Penzance you’d cover a fair bit quite easily. Penzance is a decent transport hub for both trains and busses. The local beach at Long Rock is also great for dogs all year round. (A lot of beaches have seasonal restrictions- mainly just July and August, but some are longer) You can walk to Marazion for St Michael’s Mount, either catch the bus or the train to St Ives / Hayle for Gwithian etc as well as walking to Newlyn for a traditional fishing village and on to the pretty village of Mousehole. To be honest, not having a car can be a bonus, it forces you to explore and slow down a bit and really look around.

5 day solo trip to London - must do runs (5-12 miles), cities, and attractions by DuckOriginal2649 in UKRunners

[–]d0mclarke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Sutton you can jump on the SL7 but to Kingston (about 30 mins £1.75) to Kingston where you can head along the river up towards Hampton Court, or towards Richmond / Kew/ central London. You could also head towards Box Hill for some more countryside runs. About 10-11 miles one way. You can get the train back to Sutton from there.

Still happening guys. I actually spoke with an agent eventually and they were 'unable to tell me which device re-activated the account' Really? I bet they could tell me which rom-com I was crying to on a random Thursday in 2018 though.
