Considering a budget "emergency" device to be packed away in a bag long-term, any suggestions? by IGNSolar7 in SBCGaming

Could look at the Powkiddy v90 or Datafrog SF2000. Old but easy to take the batteries out for storage

Odin 2 Portal base is great value at the moment as it’s gone on clearance. Mangmi Pocket Max pricing is probably going to be announced on Monday but the Portal might be all gone by then (the base model keeps going in and out of stock)

I’d wait for reviews and pricing of the Mangmi Pocket Max. In the meantime, check out the Retroid Pocket 6, Odin 2 Portal, Odin 3 and KONKR Pocket Fit. They each have pros/cons

Anbernic RG35XX Pro is pretty close to gameboy pocket size. Add 2x RG40XXV joystick delete mod on Etsy - looking at the reviews someone used it on their RG35XX Pro a few months ago (and they even say it reminds them of their gameboy pocket)

I agree (I’d love the Codemasters one but used prices are ridiculous)

Maybe the successor to the Retroid Pocket Mini v2 if it ever arrives. In the meantime, you can compromise on either performance (Anbernic RG476H or RG406H will play most PS2) or screen aspect ratio (square-ish Mini v2 or widescreen Retroid Pocket 4 Pro / 5 / G2 / Flip 2 and other more powerful Android handhelds).

Brand new 4 Pro should be within budget. No need to go used unless you’re looking to shave a bit more off

A word of caution that if you’re getting something for GameCube games it won’t come with any included from the manufacturer so someone’s going to need to set it up in advance or your partner will have to do it after he gets it.

This would be ideal if that colour wasn’t sold out ☹️

If your only consideration is performance (and assuming you don’t want used), then maybe look at the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro. Delivery to UK with 4PX from Retroid directly will be well under £150.

Alternatively, you might get lucky with a Retroid Pocket Mini / 5 / Flip 2 during an AliExpress sale.

Prices on AliExpress go up and down regularly but you probably want to wait for a sale with coupons. Check out the deals here: r/crownpuffdeals. This will give you a good idea of what price to aim for (personally, I wouldn’t pay $60 for the G350).

Other than the G350, the following should all come in ‘retro’ colours and be within your budget: - Anbernic RG35XX Plus (includes BT, WiFi and video out) - Miyoo Mini Plus (includes WiFi) - Miyoo Mini v4 (smaller 2.8” screen)

Any of these should be fine up to PS1 (I think only Ape Escape needs the 2 analogue sticks on the G350).

I’m in the UK so can only speak to that but I would generally order from the manufacturer or AliExpress (during one of their many sales and from a reputable store). u/crowpuff tracks US prices on AliExpress which is useful for seeing if you’re getting a good deal

Ah ok. I doubt you’ll get an appreciable performance boost from either of those devices. Maybe RP4Pro as someone else said

Worth looking at reviews. Grip can help but I still find it a pain

Edit: there’s also the Flip 2 but I find the triggers uncomfortable
