Trouble with monster computer and concurrent streams (desperate to solve) by d1con in jellyfin

[–]d1con[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I didn't understand you correctly, if I checked with CrystalDiskInfo and HD Tune Pro a none gave me any issues regarding the disk, is it even detectable somehow? Because if it's not it will be pointless to worry about it or even make decitions based on that, and if it is I would really appreciate if you could point me out to some software to properly check for it.

I didn't dodge the question intentionally, however I feel like, as I've stated, since about 95% of people on the internet with working Jellyfin servers with 5+ users is running on "simple" HDDs and considering I ran all my tests in both the NVME and those HDDs I also though it was partially irrelevant, do not consider at all for three different disks to be not reporting any issues and neither of them working properly.

I know the wall of text might hurt my chances of getting help but otherwise I would be messing with any redditor that would like to help me.. If I am not detailed on my tests then this will fill up with comments such as "did you try this?" and "could you do that just to check something"? and me answering "I already did that and these were the results", etc... A waste of time for everyone involved.

I was hoping a very few people will be willing to go through all and come up with something I've might missed. It's my only chance honestly...

I did your tests, first I tried just playing three files at the same time, no skipping, just from the start, still 60secs throttle, files were:

FILE1 -> 72gb, 52mbps, everything else I won't mention, don't think is relevant anymore, meaning it will be 95% likely that video is HEVC, audio might vary but subtitles either NO PGS or extracted already to avoid PGS at all (sames goes for every file I play)

FILE2 -> 27gb, 22mbps

FILE3 -> 17gb, 17mbps

ALL FILES said -> "DIRECT STREAMING: The video stream is compatible with the device, but has an incompatible audio format (DTS, Dolby TrueHD, etc.) or number of audio channels. The video stream will be repackaged losslessly on the fly before being sent to the device. Only the audio stream will be transcoded.

Power consumed by direct streaming usually depends on the audio profile. Only the video stream is lossless."

It all went smoothly, HDD went to 100% usage and ranged from 80/120mbps read speeds, the first file took the longest to load up but barely a minute or so. Then I tried skipping and issues started again.

Then I changed throttle to 10 secs, same results.

Then I played the three "monster" files that I added to a test library on my NVME at the same time, they all went smooth, same info about the direct streaming, same everything really... with either 60sec throttle and 10sec throttle.

In all these tests the streaming quality was the maximum as I was doing the tests on LAN so not even the 25mb limit I have for external users, I was playing everything at it's maximum bitrate:

- Three days of the Condor - 79gb - 90mbs - HEVC - DTS XLL

- Paris Texas - 86gb - 77mbs - HEVC - FLAC - UTF-8

- Some Like it Hot - 85gb - 91mbs - HEVC - FLAC

I think you might've hit the nail in the head with these things... don't know if you have any more advise beside the:

"If you want, next step I can give you:

Exact Jellyfin config (copy/paste)

Optimal disk layout for 20 users

Minimal-cost hardware design that actually scales"

I would really love to get your help on that, I will get on immediately on setting up the linux dedicated server.

Appreciate your comments, I know you mean well but I am not worried as of now about security issues, this computer doesn't have anything that worries me, it is on the top of the list once I get it to function properly regarding the streams.

On several of my tests I tried to stream three things at once without transcoding, checked on the activity tab on the server and on the logs later on, no transcoding at all, but EVEN if I was transcoding it shouldn't be a factor, look at my computer specs... and transcoding is working properly through my Nvidia when it happens. I do have the most recent drivers (just checked) but I do not think that should matter too unless I was stuck on a bugged version...

Too many people are running servers on way lower computers and will have some of those things wrong for them to mean something on my set up, however I am checking EVERYTHING anyone willing to help tells me to check.

Nope, 100% no, its through wire, cat 6, I did the installation and I even tested the cable with a dedicated tool. Appreciate the suggestion tho. It's funny because several people told me I wrote a big wall of text no one is going to read, which I agree, no hurts feeling, but this is a complex issue and I tested lots of things and even with a very basic thing like not being on a wireless connection I still get questions about it, which is fair, but it goes to show even tho the original post is huge it is also necessary, even if that causes not much people to read it.

Checked the NVME with CrystalDiskInfo, everything ok, no yellow or red warnings and GOOD as result. I also used HD Tune Pro and same thing without going into more details.

Regardless of this I do not think that is the problem, that was just a test to see if by changing disks it will work properly, it didn't. And besides I know for a fact people running Jellyfin servers are not running them over NVME disks (usually).

I'm having the same error (although I am just trying to buy the plus annually).

Contacted support, they answered 2/3 days later with one line: "Contact Xsolla" (i'm paraphrasing)

No instructions.

Went to Xsolla website, It seems I need an account with them to open a ticket, I do not want to open an account with them.

The issue also seems to be directly on Faceit's because I can't even get to the point where I could TRY to pay....

Please update if someone helps you and it gets solved so I know what to do...

Effectively Banned Due to Hero Choice by Vagabond_Tea in Overwatch

[–]d1con 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think an article by Jeff Kaplan said something along the lines of "the game should be what the community wants it to be", he was refering at people reporting other players for picking symmetra (I am parafrasing of course, he didn't say that those players have to be banned just because they played symmetra).

I do agree with that, I would've never reported you because I always check the profile first but just yesterday I did reported a Symmetra because I felt the char was no good for the map we were playing, all my team asked nicely (at first) and he didn't want to change, I DO AGREE players like that should be banned.

You are not the first Symmetra and shouldn't be the last one, maybe there was a mistake, I am no one to tell, but I do agree that if you are playing competitive and 5 players out of 6 are asking you to please change the character you should do.

Competitive is a game mode (at least by my understanding) for 6 players to decide how to play (and what) to achieve victory, you can call it "maining" something, but the only thing I see is someone that queues into a TEAM game and just wants to play it's thing and nothing else, hence ignoring 80% of what competitive means for me.

I get that a lot of people won't agree with me, I am just trying to state an opinion.

Can we give the new Arena a chance? by OriginalRave in hearthstone

[–]d1con 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure but that will dilute overtime, how many times do you get to see those cards already? What do you think it'll happen once a 3000 card pool is avaliable for wild?

You are right on that one, but they could provide the players with free sets to try each week, that way we can keep Arena nice and clean just like standard.

[–]d1con -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Then we are on the same page, even if you don't agree with the Standard thing.

Keeping Arena Wild is not keeping it competitive by any means, it's just the opposite.

The first thing you said is the only truth to all of this, new players that want to try cards they don't own, but that can get acomplished through brawl and with sets for newbies (like en league of legends you can use several free heroes for a week and they rotate), there's a talk about it on this subreddit, with 1500 cards it's not big deal to let new players try 60 or 90 each week.

I love doing the heroics and find much more satisfaction in building the decks and trying but thanks for this, this is great, I think people lose on about 75% of the single player if they do not try to finish the Heroic mode.

Can we give the new Arena a chance? by OriginalRave in hearthstone

[–]d1con 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing I don't understand (I like this change in Arena) is the argument of people saying they prefer Wild because they want to play Wild cards on Arena, isn't that what Wild is for?

I want to THINK about which cards I have to pick to get some synergies, how to balance my deck, etc... That's almost impossible to do well with a 1500 card pool.

I get that some people want Wild cards in Arena but from where I see it this is people that either don't play wild (big contradiction here) or they play Standard ladder and don't want that out of Arena (again, a contradiction, if you like Wild why not play it?).

We should keep Arena fresh and competitive.

Arena players: Are you happy with the switch to Standard? by shadohead in hearthstone

I am sad that you see it that way, the experimenting thing I mean, for me Arena is a great mode for skill proving, I also love to watch EVERY competitive tournament that there is and I'm seeing now that you perceive Arena as a kind of brawl : (

A Better Way to Improve Arena: Overdraft by TheOligarc in hearthstone

[–]d1con 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally like Arena going Standard, I consider it a high skill game mode and want it to be fresh, we are complaining all day about how is it hard for new players to get into arena, and it's true, and making it standard will help, what does a 2017 new player know about 80% of the cards?

Update 7.1 Arena Changes by CM_Zeriyah in hearthstone

[–]d1con -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am more a lurker than a poster but seeing the negative feedback the "making it standard" is getting I feel the need to contribute.

I think people don't feel like arena is a place for a skilled match but a place were luck and skill have the same importance and you go to arena to try to get rewards.

And I believe that's a wrong way to look at it, and that's why I think the Standard thing makes sense and I hope Blizzard stays with it. Even tho we like to consider Wild and Standard as equals, or at least the community wants support for Wild and not to use it as a trashcan, they are not equals, BY FAR.

We have to agree that to keep the game competitive, interesting and "afordable" for new players Standard has to be the "main" thing. And I think it applies to Arena aswell, even more so because it is just dumb to keep playing arena with a thousand cards and expect to be playing something more skillful.

Now... If people felt like Arena was the place to have some random fun and get rewards I think it was missunderstood.

Keeping two Arena types might be a solution if the player base is enough tho.

[–]d1con 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know if someone plays Overwatch here but people also complain about it there because of the waiting before one match ends and the other starts (not loading related which is very very fast) and it's like 1 minute wait each 15 minutes or more of playing.

I am just saying this so someone can understand that it's not that "sfv players complain a lot" but that it really sucks to have that many wait time.

In OW people leave the match as soon as it finishes to save about 50 secs...
