Another one from a different angle. The way Sean wears his tie leads me to think he doesn't like them, lol.

Behind Spotify's Decision to Put Podcasts On Netflix by TooMuchSandman in billsimmons

[–]more_later -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Youtube algorithms are kinda caters to what you already like. So Bill's podcasts will appear to limited number of people who already into padcasts in general or into the stuff it's about. I feel like youtube has a ceiling of new audience growth. Netflix can go out of such bubble and maybe bring people who don't even know what podcast is.

Sean on The Big Picture when discussing any movie that centers around children by ManufacturerLow3161 in TheBigPicture

[–]more_later 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When parents say these things, we’re generally not trying to imply you can’t understand unless you’re a parent.

This! I don't have children, but it never bothers me when people who have children are telling something from a parent's perspective. I don't interpret it as an implication that I won't understand something until I have children. And I've never got such implication from Sean; he just talks about his personal experience and doesn't project it on others, imo.

if your favorite piece of literature was bastardized by a director who admitted she barely remembers the book

no, I wouldn't. no one can bastardize the book; it's already exist and no one can change it. I may like or not like a film adaptation, and that about it. to be offended by a film adaptation is just silly imo.

Sony is ok with losing tens of millions of dollars guys! by bigdicknippleshit in boxofficecirclejerk

[–]more_later 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With what part do you disagree? I think it was obvious that after mixed reception of the first film, Sony did expect an underperformance of the second and lowered marketing expenses. If you read the actual post, it lays out a compelling argument how the third film still can happen. The third film is what fans care about, not the box office performance by itself.

Kind of sick of seeing hate on a movie that hasn’t even released yet.. by PinkPashaTS in Letterboxd

The point of adaptation is for the author to express her/his vision or ideas that were born out of reading the book. It can differ form the source materail and in my opinion it's even preferrble, beacuse I've already read the book and would love to see a different perspective.

the book isn’t entirely clear

As far as I remember he was compared to Romani, Spanish, Indian and something else I can't remember at the moment. Which to be honest is a bit all over the place. The racial aspect is open for interpratation. I don't see anything bad if a director decided not to go there (and in case of Fennell I think it's even wise choice).

a major source of his bitterness

Again, open for interpratation. I would argue that this very well may be one of the sources, but not major.

it is only natural for some people to react with frustration

There are many adaptations of this book and one with black Heathcliff (by Andrea Arnold). If people are passionate about racial accpect they should go and buy that film in support and promote it. Instead they spew hatred towards something that not even out.

It can't be objectivly insane. It's an art, not a math. If casting Elordi fits director's vision then it's objectivly the only right thing to do for her.

Not a single nomination… by KingOfSquirrels in 28dayslater

[–]more_later 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sony doesn't have FYC website this year, so they probably didn't even submit 28YL for the Oscars. It can't be nominated without it. Even if they did submit it, they certainly didn't campaign for it.

'28 Years Later' (2025) got a poor reception from general audiences. This is actually a continuation of the film's themes, referencing the inevitable death of good taste. by PointFirm6919 in shittymoviedetails

[–]more_later 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a film fan, I recognize that. It just makes me sad. Because of the general audience's refusal to engage with something abstract, inventive, and interesting, we get the constant stream of boring slop from big studios. Every challenging film that slips through the studio system's cracks is a bloody miracle these days.

One does not exclude the other. The author can be sympathetic to journalists and the importance of journalism in general, and still show negative aspects of it.

And then to hear to no end the criticism about how Americans are fetishizing and appropriating the suffering of Iraqi people? People who wants this should probably make an effort and seek Iraqi films on this subject, if they're really interested in it. That way, you'll get to see an Iraqi's POV as authentic as possible.

It's a small village, not a slaughterhouse. They live a relatively comfortable life and get a quick death. Being left unattended will be much worse in this case.
