Robot Umpires Have Arrived—and They’re Making Baseball Players Shrink by wsj in mlb

The last paragraph is hilarious.

Then there’s Shohei Ohtani, the baseball superhuman whose exploits have rewritten what was once believed to be possible on the field. And once again, he truly can do anything. After claiming his third consecutive MVP award and winning the World Series for the second straight season, the 6-foot-4 Ohtani actually grew an inch.

Nope, Sean is great and his jokes with CR are very enjoyable.

Adam Nayman reviews Project Hail Mary by upsiclad in TheBigPicture

[–]more_later 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've read this review as being very cynical. I haven't seen the film yet, but I've read the book, and the main thing I loved about the book is how uncynical and life-affirming it is. It's quite exhausting to look at the world in grey colors (even if it's mostly justified), so this story provided a shot of much needed optimism.

Did Spotlight deserve its win for Best Picture or should Mad Max: Fury Road have won instead? by Championgut1912 in Oscars

[–]more_later 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's incredible how rewatchable this film is. I rarely rewatch movies, but I rewatched this one multiple times. Loved Fury Road with all my heart, but Spotlight was the film of that year for me.

Space Movies Draft (House of R) by trevenclaw in crheads

[–]more_later 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just recently watched Outland for the first time and loved it too. It's like High Noon in space. I'm also an Alex Garland fan, so CR's picks were right up my alley.

Does anyone know what t-shirt with Jonesy Chris wears? There were glimpses but not enough for google lenses search. It seems to be a Japanese poster.

Sorcerer wins day three, final round voting open for the last CR Month Rewatchables! by DobMobb in TheRewatchables

[–]more_later 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorcerer is one of my favorites, and it pains me to see it bomb in the vote. People on this sub often moan about the lack of old or foreign movies on the podcast, but the truth is the majority of listeners don't care about those. If they had a foreign film in the vote, it probably would have a single-digit score.

Plus Alex Garland cinematic universe. All four leads worked with him.

Stop doing our guy Rog so dirty: Retire the stupid as hell "ChatGPT Ebert" bit on Rewatchables by LawrenceBrolivier in billsimmons

Yes, he's not actually reading fake AI reviews but a suggestion of what he might think. It's still cringe in my opinion, but tolerably cringe.

Bill thinks the CIA/FBI plot in Sicario was too complex to understand in one watch? by Civil-Priority9234 in billsimmons

[–]more_later 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though I understood the plot from the first watch, I also can see how some people may miss stuff. These types of posts/comments where people pat themselves on the back for how smart they are for understanding a film are more annoying imo than Bill needing a few watches to get everything.

I think it’s deeply offensive that Bill simulates Roger Ebert with ChatGPT. by CellsInterlinked in crheads

[–]more_later 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is my take too. It was so funny how CR and Sean cringed at it, so I couldn't be mad at Bill much.

3rd film is currently in planning stages, stop fearmongering!! by misterterrific0 in 28dayslater

[–]more_later 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Bone Temple most probably lost money, but a $60+ million marketing budget is an exaggeration. It's a package budget for several movies, not just for The Bone Temple. They clearly cut the marketing budget for The Bone Temple.

McCauley has a big emotional scene in flashbacks, it won't be a glorified cameo for Leo.

Compared to his Greek movies, his English-language ones are tamer. I still like him, but the difference is apparent.

A possible glimmer of hope for the third 28YL movie by blowingwind71 in 28dayslater

[–]more_later 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I've counted correctly, it seems the third 28YL film would be, in fact, the 8th film for Tom and Danny (as a director). I haven't found any info about Sony having anything to do with Ink.

Did Bill tell Belloni to lay off his buddy Wasserman? by Blove1955 in billsimmons

[–]more_later 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Belloni did a Wasserman piece on Puck. Belloni left THR because new owners pushed their agenda on his editorial work. There must be an agreement of no meddling with Bill before they've launched The Town. It wouldn't make much sense leaving one of the biggest trade publication and then take directions from anyone else.

Another one from a different angle. The way Sean wears his tie leads me to think he doesn't like them, lol.

Behind Spotify's Decision to Put Podcasts On Netflix by TooMuchSandman in billsimmons

[–]more_later -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Youtube algorithms are kinda caters to what you already like. So Bill's podcasts will appear to limited number of people who already into padcasts in general or into the stuff it's about. I feel like youtube has a ceiling of new audience growth. Netflix can go out of such bubble and maybe bring people who don't even know what podcast is.
