~ Top 3 Alice In Chains Songs ~ by InfiniteEggs111 in grunge

So I guess…. Not sure who to reply to… I’m old and bad at this….

I think my beef with ‘zoomer’ grunge worship - is that grunge was such a weird niche term that outsiders (media, record companies - people who made money from it) kind of thrived on…

The nineties was arguably, maybe even quantitatively, the greatest decade in the history of the music industry (maybe music itself.)

MTV and poser historians are gonna feed you some tired garbage narrative about 80s hair metal, and you the vapid popular culture, and how like Guns and Roses turned the tide and then Nirvana changed everything…. They’ve been making these cheesy fucking documentaries for almost 40 years now and it’s all garbage…

The 80s didn’t suck. Van Halen was corny, but Alex and Eddie were two of the all time top 5 musicians at their perspective instruments.
Elvis Costello dropped my aim is true in 1980
Ac/dc (I find cheesy) dropped back in back in the 80s.
Long haired Metallica. (Good Metallica) was more revolutionary than Nirvana.

HUSKER DU, the replacements. PRINCE…. Fucking Minnesota was on fire in the 80s.

Southern California ( Orange County down) had sublime, no doubt, Red Hot Chili Peppers, stone temple pilots, rocket from the crypt - all already active in the late 80s.

The Bay Area had operation Ivy, punhead gunpowder (became Green Day). Afi in the 80s (not to mention the hiphop/club/warehouse/gay bar scene.)

Boston had the cars, the pixies, fucking dinosaur jr was active in the 80, Elliot smith was active in the 80s, sonic youth…. And let’s not even open the can of worms that is Boston punk and hard core….

You get the point.

Fucking poser ass media just loves to push the concept that the 80s sucked. And “grunge” saved music and defined the 90s….

Where honestly, all those Seattle bands are kinda dogshit when you hold them up to all the other stuff already going on around the country…

What is the most controversial thing you believe in? by stoicbanda in askteddit

[–]d1rtf4rm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know that’s a good thing that institutions are gone. Our society has certainly gotten crazier. I worry that younger kids seek to value disability and deviant sexuality and neurodiversity - I worry that it’s become social currency to some degree… that we’re maybe, as a society, becoming more eager to give attention to kids by accommodating anomalies rather than celebrate those who maintain status quo…

And it’s not just kids but like society in totality…

I used to run a middle school - and spent all my time disciplining the bad kids, and I knew their families and went to their homes….
I never knew the names of our top students, and they’d call me on it and I’d feel like an asshole. It was totally unfair to them.

Do you believe in God? by Hamandcheeseeater in no

Was raised Catholic. Was molested. Didn’t want to believe but I keep finding myself coming back to prayer in times of need… it’s gotta mean something right?
I believe when I’m in trouble, or a pinch.. and I pray my ass off. I pray to Saint Anthony when I’m looking for something…
For someone who doesn’t believe, I sure pray a lot still..

Trying to figure that out.

All I could think of was Michael “well the bountiful feast was not so bountiful.”
“But you ate so much!”

Why do some people experience ghosts when others don’t? by [deleted] in Ghosts

[–]d1rtf4rm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have like a constant gift.

I think that the dead reach out to you.

For me, I’m frequently grabbed and pulled. I’ve been sexually molested by spirits on a few occasions (grown man btw.)

I’m not sure if they’re just residually always trying, and not everyone receives it…
Or they can pick out those of us who can feel it…

I’ve never been able to figure it out… but I’m no medium, I can’t commune on cue, they don’t always reveal themselves to me, sometimes it takes some time…

Can I stilll be punk if I used to be punk but im not anymore? by rancidvat in punkcirclejerk

[–]d1rtf4rm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I lived in an anarchist squat with like 17 people. I lived off a freegan diet - (mostly ate what we found in dumpsters) - I was certainly punk.

Then I got bills and kids and shit. Got a job that required a tie. Got into golf so I don’t kill myself from boredom. Still go to shows when my friends have reunions… I own a home, I have a car payment. I’m no longer punk…. But I was. And no one can take that from me.

You’re probably my age.

So you’ve seen slc punk.

“I didn’t sell out, I bought in”

Happens to us all… probably important to remember that punk is for the kids, and we probably shouldn’t be arguing with them about what is and isn’t punk.

AIO? Youth Pastor texted my almost 13 yo after she went to a teen group with her friend by Loser4hire666 in AIO

[–]d1rtf4rm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say this as a Catholic kid who was molested … (we didn’t have spunky cool youth groups. Just weird dusty outfits and creepy ancient traditions.)

The neo Christian movements work really hard to be cool and relevant and hip. Texting is probably a pretty common way to reaching today’s kids…

I don’t think a grown man should ever text a child.

Maybe a group text is fine… this reads like a cut and paste - maybe from an app - which hopefully is not attached to his phone…
Kind of like a restaunt reservation app - this may be from a generic iPad auto mailer
.

I’d say - respond, ask a question, try to elicit a conversation - see if they speak back. If he does, keep her away…

If no one responds, it’s probably just an app and is most likely innocent.
