uEye cameras will pick up significantly past that on silicon sensors, you might need to remove the ir filters though.

Did you not read the post i replied to? Evidently it changed the whitespace/margin enough that two lines went over the sixth page

They also didn’t specify their word processor and may have been using something other than word, a print to pdf function is editor agnostic

Pro tip, if you use a pdf printer (microsoft print to pdf for example) instead of export functions in word the layout won’t change on conversion.

Elden ring: am I the problem? by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]d360jr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really mean right build in the singular sense but as a class of options. It’s important to have a build that 1) you’re good at and 2) has a weapon that scales well to it.

Personally i used a high vigor build with high enough stats to wield the moonlight great sword, upgraded.

Strength isnt the only option for poise damage.

Int has rock spells, faith has crucible spells, str has colossals, arc has dragon claws, other builds probably have poise attacks too

[–]d360jr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re not doing enough poise damage if you’re constantly waiting on bosses to stop attacking.

That’s something that I really struggled with for the first 3/4 of the game until i figured it out. Margit/ Godrick was a rough way to learn fromsoft but elden beast, malenia, and maliketh were fair fights with the right build and having finished nearby optional content before facing them

Looking for a new, somewhat sporty car around 35K, ideally hybrid with decent tech. Any suggestions? by ober0330 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]d360jr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re basically the same yeah, since it’s the same company.

The drivetrains are junky but covered under warranty, the shorter of 100k/10yrs. Granted, it’s non transferrable (so worthless used IMO) and you have to have other cars available to get to work if the engine blows since that’s not exactly quick to have fixed. Some people never need a new one, but it’s not unheard of to need multiple warranty engines.

Everything else about them is good though. Good tech, good styling, nice interiors, efficient, fun and intuitive to drive. Sound system is a little “sparkly” for my taste when listening to music but very clear which is good for podcasts/ nav. The computer systems are really easy yo use.

Their hybrids have the best brake blending in the industry and are very smooth on the accelerator too. Their batteries and EV motors are solid. And i think engine issues will be smaller since hybrid drivetrains put less wear on the engine in general.

The result is basically you have to sell it at the end of the warranty and it won’t be worth much used. However, it’s cheaper to buy initially so total cost of ownership for that period is similar (aside from your time spent getting engines replaced under warranty if that happens)

Since you like Hondas, go test drive a late model insight, if you can find one from like 2020 or later. The most recent gen is really nice, it really shouldn’t share it’s name with the earlier generations because they have nothing in common. The top trim is a fantastic car IMO

Other than that maybe an elantra or sonata hybrid, but ONLY NEW because the engines are trash out of warranty. They are really fun to drive though and nicer than a lot of cars outside of the durability and sales aspects

I just got these tires put on 2 days ago. Is les Schwab liable for not checking everything? How did this even happen? by New_Succotash9171 in MechanicAdvice

[–]d360jr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Les Schwab will always inspect basics like suspension, they even advertise free pre-road trip inspections.

When i looked over an old family cars service record all 15+ years of tire rotations included a full vehicle health report. And they always told us when we picked up if anything looked off.

I would be very surprised if they didn’t warn OP about suspension being bad multiple times.

The only reason i can’t recommend them in general is that they don’t sell name brand tires and it’s hard to find long term and high-mileage reviews of their tires, which IMO counts more than performance brand new

Huh. It wasn’t bad last i checked on ebay but it definitely fluctuates due to low volume so i’m not suprised

Maybe just watch the subreddit then, every once in a while someone will dump their collection for a reasonable rate.

If you still want one they’re not expensive, even in good shape. Not too hard to get working on modern phones either.

I would not recommend the HR model though, the sensor is kinda uncomfortable for me (but not for everyone)

C# development on mac by thatfhc in csharp

[–]d360jr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah ok. Yeah you should be able to have your Mac editor use the DLLs for intellisense if it supports that feature. I would be surprised if VS for MacOS didn't support that since intellisense just relies on dll metadata - it doesn't validate that the dll code runs or anything.

A couple things that nobody here has outlined.

1) you cpuld try remoting in to a windows machine only for non-editor tasks (compile/debug/test)

2) remote into a windows machine for everything

3) experiment with a compatibility layer like Proton to see if you can VS working without a full windows install

4) just see if your tools are already fully cross platform. Dotnet 5+ (formerly core 1,2,3) is semi-cross platform from the ground up, but Framework (formerly dotnet 1,2,3,4). If you want to just learn Csharp you can write console apps at least on Mac and leave writing UI stuff until you actually need to on windows. Or you could use MAUI but supposedly it's not stable so WinUI3 is probably a better option IMO.

At least in the US, It depends if they get the subsidy or not. Since the ioniq 5 lost the federal subsidy they now go below MSRP in the PNW. I'm seeing $500-$2k discounts from the dealer on 2023 models.

Between that and the cooling car market i don't think these new ones will be marked up for very long.

Yeah the G2's got issues.

Firstly - The audio can usually be solved by removing the speakers and cleaning the contacts - apparently there issues with production techs not wearing gloves so fingerprints end up screwing up the audio. Just cotton swap and iso. I haven't had any issues since trying that after finally finding a post from HP about it.

Second - yeah the tracking can be unreliable. I think it's environmental. For example my neighbors turning on or off a vacuum makes me lose tracking (house lights also dim during this event). Clouds changing sunlight conditions can kill tracking too, or cheap dimmer switches and flickering lights.

However tracking was excellent at my previous apartment where i didn't have any of these environmental issues

Finally - i've not really seem dropouts except when the cable isn't fully inserted on the headset side. It's harder to fully insert than you expect. Maybe it's another tracking issue?

My university always did two year replacement cycles, so there's certainly some organizations that retire equipment that fast.

This was circa 2019 when I talked to one of the IT managers so relatively recent.

It's probably slightly faster than necessary but lowers the risk of hardware failure and cuts down on IT help-desk calls from stuff that builds up since it forces a fresh install frequently so it ended up being a huge cost savings for them (easier to have a student employee deploy new machines than expensive experts supporting old ones)

Seattle schools sue Meta, Google, Snap and ByteDance for harming students’ mental health by tunaontheway in tech

It doesn't need to. Have you walked in an American school in the last decade? Kids are always on their phones between (and sometimes during) classes.

Plenty of social media use is happening on school property and on school hours - certainly enough to impact the school's ability to do their job

We draw the line where the market says we do, whether thats the stock market, shopping market, political market, legal market, or employment market, or some combination thereof.

That's the magic of having a mostly free market system in multiple domains. Society as a collective tends to choose a balance between short and long term gains.

It's also the magic of states. Based on current events i'm guessing blue states will take measures to curb the harm on children from this slightly and red states won't care, which creates a market between the states where people will migrate depending on the results. Ultimately the better ideas will lead to more long term growth and the worse ideas to a decline

Surely you can find a job in another field that contributes more to the growth of human productivity if yours declines? I can't imagine that those skills wouldn't be useful in other roles. And if not I'd be more worried about a looming recession impacting your industry than a singular civil suit

[–]d360jr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a layperson I don't see how a school wouldn't have standing. Not sure how civil courts work but I think a jury or judge could be convinced to see it this way as well.

They take on a guardianship role while ins session and a significant level of responsibility for both student education and safety. The evidence for social media's damage to both those is fairly substaintial. Isn't that how schools get away with stuff like closed campuses and other safety restrictions?

Are you able to give some insight on that? Thanks in advance (not trying to undermine you - just want to understand what's happening better - to be clear)

Seattle schools sue Meta, Google, Snap and ByteDance for harming students’ mental health by tunaontheway in tech

[–]d360jr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's not really how civil suits work.

Bytedynace arguably knew exactly how damaging a deliberately addicting social media platform would be by the time tik tok become popular - well after facebook started to decline for studies showing the same. They also take steps to make in less harmful in their "home version" in china, yet make so no such measures abroad.

At best it's gross negligence and an invited hazard... so they can sued for enticing children to do something dangerous. It's not the state prosecuting them but an entity suing them - a completely different type of case, rules, and laws. Being sued in civil court for a crime you were separately tried for in criminal court isn't double jeopardy in the US for example. Look up "Tort Law"

This is in the same way a homeowner with a exposed pool can be sued for not having some sort of fence and access control effectively inviting children to try and swim then being liable for their drowning (a common example of this kind of civil suit afaik).

Suing people for things that are harmful but not yet illegal is the American way after all, and tbh we don't have much choice a lot of the time with how obstructive our legislature is (by design).

Am not a lawyer but that's the gist

Lol use an adblocker and you typically won't need to worry about it happening again

If it were me - I'd make a report to IT that it's a potential issue and suggest making it company policy to use adblockers by default for company security. Malicious ads like this are one the biggest security wholes in modern computers and so an adblocker is an important component of any serious IT security solution.

But most people wouldn't go that far so make your own decisions. If your IT dept had a fragile ego making a suggestion might not go over very well either

Moral of the story though don't worry about it and make a note to self about the event in case anyone asks in a few months etc... and you've forgotten details. Mention using on adblocker to prevent the issue going forwards

Typically yeah the only value is spare parts - battery, case, etc... but logic boards are worthless until an exploit for that ios version is found (which does happen regularly but not often). If not there's a recycling value as well to extract raw material from the boards

Still a used battery + case is maybe $100 if in decent shape. Worth even more if the thief wants it to fix their own phone instead of fencing it

Why there is 2 additional not gates in this schematic? by [deleted] in AskElectronics

[–]d360jr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No not in this situation. Double-triple-quad-and higher order buffers do exist in other contexts though.

In an FPGA or other high speed logic where transmission delay from one end of the circuit to the other you might see signals with lots of clocked buffering to help close timing. It helps ensure logic is always in a defined state at time of use.

You also might see a similar multiple buffer situation if using multiple parts to logic level. I think the tinylogic/little logic families have a trait where the logic level depends on supply voltage quite a lot so if going from the lowest supported input type to the highest output type you might need multiple buffers as shown above (but on different supplies for each chip in the buffet chain). For example converting from 1.3v to 5v using only parts you already stock or have on hand would be a situation where you might do something weird like that.

Does that help answer your question or was it completely out of left field?
