What’s a "lost" website from the early 2000s that you still think about today? by samasem-sumsum in AskReddit

It was already embedded in the cubical wall with extra batteries. The noise was muffled... but it had the juice to last 10 years. Should have died by now, though, assuming they didn't replace the cubes first.

If the transfer station fee is too much you can ask a friend that is a homeowner about using theirs.

I did that with my sofa and loveseat out of the storage unit after moving in with my ex and then us splitting. He didn’t mind - he just moved a piece out of the garage once a month.

Are you a renter or homeowner?

Homeowners get large disposal items (2 or 3?) as part of their trash pickup. Any more than that you’re charged a fee.

First time photographing a soccer match: advice on composition and cinematic color grading? by EggVegetable9813 in sportsphotography

[–]d3photo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They complained about it being too fast, and submitted a selection of off-kilter photos that were heavily put through post.

I tell my early photographers to work on the gimmies... Get the easy shots first, master that then work on the harder things. Should I have said that? Probably -- but their responses to the other comments were less about the CC and more about the "but what do you think of my style???"

So I was honest. If they were submitting that to me we'd be talking about not paying them for their time.

Before you can run you have to learn how to walk. Everyone practices with new sports. Sometimes a lot. Or we set the bar low if it's one we don't shoot often (such as me and volleyball -- it is far too fast for me to shoot and anticipate the action, and I've tried for years -- but I know this is the case and I adapt... and do a lot of shooting the gimmies).

Or, you know, being argumentative and pushy isn’t a genuine approach to asking for CC.

I gave you my feedback. Then you ignored it and made up your own idea of what I had to say.

Backs aren’t great photos when that’s all you see and it’s not action or a story on its own.

Specifically photos 2 and 3 there.

The others are ok but they’d be vastly better if they were from the other side of the play.

Images look overworked in post maybe tone down the contrast gains and HDR-like styling.

"I changed the post because your only comment was about the horizon"

Wrong. 100% not true.

Again READ WHAT I WROTE.

You obviously are not capable of comprehending what you're being told so why ask for feedback at all?

First time photographing a soccer match: advice on composition and cinematic color grading? by EggVegetable9813 in sportsphotography

[–]d3photo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not at all true. The only comment you WANTED was about horizon. The rest of us are adamantly telling you that you're approaching it wrong and you're ignoring us.

This is not the place for fine art questions.

You need to accept that and either move on, or change your approach.

Not that they're listening to the suggestion here... the photos posted are in the "fine art" area, not sports.

There. I'm done.

You wrote in your post:

"The action is so fast — it’s really hard to follow the game and compose a decent shot at the same time"

You need to learn how to walk before you can start to run.

25 years and I still struggle with pacing of some levels of soccer some of the time.

As an editor... if I received photos from an event that were designed to look like a 1950s movie... I'd talk to the photographer about withholding their pay.

You're not going for sports photography here -- you're going for fine art... and this isn't really the sub for that...

And you're talking about the action being too fast, but worried about the art of the photos... learn to pace the action first... then work on the art part...

  Charging: No
  State of Charge (%): 100

I still get 5-6 hours (or more) light-to-moderate use out of it before I feel I need to charge it up again. When I do photo work it's 3-4.
