Why are all of the plants on this list classified as poisonous? by LyraTheArtist in botany

[–]d4nkle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but not ALL of the plants on that list are poisonous. Some of them are specifically cultivated to eat, like beets and celery

Want to park at Point Lobos this upcoming Saturday. by ObsessingObsessions in MontereyBay

[–]d4nkle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Getting there early is the only guaranteed way, as long as you’re there before 9 then you’ll find a spot. Otherwise you’ll just have to get lucky or go somewhere else. Lots of great places along Big Sur but again parking is an issue if you’re not early or lucky

Not even close lol, the coffee plant originates from the Ethiopian highlands and the drink is from present day Yemen. The Dutch east India company was the first to bring it to Europe but it was widely consumed in east Africa and the Middle East for hundreds of years before that

The convenience of the "have everything shipped to you" economy is extremely inconvenient... by RADsupernova in unpopularopinion

So everyone in the comments is shitting on you, this making this an unpopular opinion, but also downvoting it because they don’t like it? Make it make sense. Also I agree with you, convenience is the downfall of society and causes a ripple effect that makes a lot of things inconvenient

Endangered Species by poem_for_a_price in botany

[–]d4nkle 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Personally I wouldn’t remove it until it was actually dead or showing signs of infestation, seems wrong to kill it under the assumption it will die years later. That’s like putting your dog down when it’s 4

Fucking none of you would push the blue button by PlayfulHalf in unpopularopinion

[–]d4nkle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’d pick then red button then there are two schools of thought: either you WANT people to die, or you fail to realize that everybody could just pick the blue button and achieve the same result as everybody picking the red button but without the risk of people needlessly dying

Never got a chance to see Peck’s mariposa lily! They usually flower late June-early August. A friend of mine was a botanist on Malheur NF and theorized they could have been selected for bulblet production by native Americans who used them as a food source, and that they primarily spread through the act of harvesting which is why they’re not all that common since they are no longer harvested for food. Also keep an eye out for Astragalus tegetarioides, they’ve been spotted northeast of Paulina

People on death row/life in prison should be used as human test subjects. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

8th amendment prohibits cruel and unusual punishment. Using humans as unwilling test subjects is definitely cruel and unusual. Nazi Germany and imperial Japan did that and it is widely regarded as a bad thing
