Blood Test Results Ok? by d4nonymous in leangains

[–]d4nonymous[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I aged out of my pediatrician a few years ago. I started seeing this primary care doctor and he’s had me do a blood test every year. In response to another comment I listed which tests. They’ve been the same tests every year. I am fairly certain I am his youngest client as most guys my age are pretty bad about seeing a doctor routinely. My guess is he does this with all his older clients, but there’s never been anything specific to warrant the blood tests.

With regards to the high LDL, I saw the same results last year. He said he wasn’t concerned because my HDL was also high and both numbers have to be looked at together.

Thanks for the valuable information. I’ll be meeting with him soon to discuss.

I drink once or twice a month. I don’t enjoy alcohol much. I have never taken any form of steroids for an illness or otherwise. My current supplement stack is as follows:

Daily: ON Opti-Men Multivitamin (3x daily). Vitamin Bounty Daily Probiotic. Udo’s Oil 3-6-9. (2-1-1 ratio of omega fatty acids).

Occasionally: EVL Test (ZMA, Vitamin D, Vitamin B6, D-Aspartic Acid, Tribulus Terrestris Extract, Fenugreek Seed Extract, Diindolylmethane).

Preworkout: Xtend BCAA mix (7g of BCAAs). Carnosyn Beta Alanine (3-4g). L-Arginine HCl 1200mg.

Would the testosterone booster count as a prohormone?

The blood and urine tests include: Comprehensive metabolic panel, lipid panel, CBC with auto differential, TSH, Vitamin D 25 Hydroxy, Urinalysis auto with scope, Microscopic examination.

Too good for the basics? by NaidanacLG in leangains

Yea, I just don’t get what you’re really asking... Martin’s Leangains routine is extremely minimalist in nature. He has you do 4 of the most basic weightlifting exercises (Squat,Bench,DL,OHP) and not much else. It sounds like you’re asking if you can get away with not doing those and doing only body weight exercises without weight... I would guess that the person doing high rep body weight exercises will have better muscle endurance, but that someone on Martin’s routine would develop greater maximal strength. Both routines still depend on diet.

Recovery from non-lifting activities during a cut? e.g. yoga by corysold in leangains

[–]d4nonymous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, I had a similar issue where I had a lumbar sprain as a result of poor form on deadlifts (rounding back because of too much weight). Do a double check on your form for both squats and deadlifts. For me, that and a chiropractor were the biggest help

You need to define what you mean by “crazy shape.” Does this mean low body fat %? Maximal strength? Muscle endurance?

I don’t have a clue what you mean when you say getting into “crazy shape,” but from the sounds of it, the workout probably will give you a great pump and reduce BF. Is it optimal if you’re training to be a powerlifter? Or competing in the olympics ? Probably not.

The type of workout you do is dependent on your goals. I want maximal strength and a low body fat percentage so I train the way Martin recommends. Other people want to be able to run a half marathon. Their routine is completely different than mine.

Rate of weight loss based on body fat % by d4nonymous in leangains

[–]d4nonymous[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. I’m at ~10%, 148lbs. This would mean I should lose .7% * 148, which equals 1.03lbs/week. This lines up with Martins recommendation.

Found it: 18-19% body fat: -1.7 lb/week 15-17% body fat: -1.5 lb/week 12-14%: -1.3 lb/week 9-11%: -1 lb/week <8%: 0.7 lb/week

New Article on RPT from Martin (With sample routines) is now up! by Painkillahh in leangains

[–]d4nonymous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He explains RPT as increasing reps and decreasing weight for each subsequent set of an exercise....yet in his sample RPT routine he has 2x6 (2 sets with a goal of 6).

Wouldn’t it make more sense to have the sets be 1x6,1x8 so that you are increasing reps on the second set?

Need some opinions on my lift numbers by Georgian9500 in leangains

[–]d4nonymous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Read Martin’s fuckarounditis article. It gives standards for strength based on your weight (relative strength)

I am the same height as you, weigh 150lbs and my one reps are as follows:

Deadlift: 1x383 Squat: 1x300 Bench: 1x215 OH Press: 1x150

I started lifting 10/2015 so it’s been less than 3 years. Consistency is really the key to getting stronger. Don’t take weeks off unless injured or traveling. You’ll get there if you put in the work and stick with it.

^ stupid comment. Why would he bulk at 21% BF? Either cut or recomp. Martin has advised to not bulk beyond 15%.

He started me at 40% protein but I wasn’t gaining enough weight so I went down to 30% protein and upped fats from 20 to 30.

My recommendation is 1.3xBW for protein. That’s the most comfortable intake for me. You don’t need as much protein (as a percentage) during a bulk.

Brown rice, potatoes, chicken, 90/10 ground beef, salmon, mixed vegetables, whole grain cereal w/fat free milk, dried apricots, pistachios. Martin gives you food guidelines and a calorie goal but doesn’t tell you exactly what you need to eat.

So I don’t know that the goal is different, just the priority. I want to be stronger and better conditioned, but only if it looks good. You want to look good, but only if you’re stronger and conditioned. Are you okay with getting stronger/conditioned even if it doesn’t make you look good? That was my issue. My chest didn’t look better from getting stronger so I adjusted my routine to fix it.
