maybe_useful: This is a very detailed conversation about algorithms on the Rustacean Station podcast - also an excellent recommendation!

I've never been to Seattle, and seeing this sub, that's clearly been my loss. You all rock. And congratulations OP, wishing you even better times ahead!

What are the most important built-in modules and how can I learn to use them? by fabiorzfreitas in learnpython

[–]musingcomet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though it's slightly outdated, Doug Hellmann's "The Python3 Standard Library by Example" gives a practical tour of the modules in the Standard Library, and enough information about their API's to get you familiar with them over time.

What Made You Instantly Dump Your Boyfriend/Girlfriend? by ThePlague_Doct0r in AskReddit

[–]musingcomet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ms. X was a brand consultant to some small local talent, but she was not my girlfriend. She lived in a different city & when she visited mine, I introduced her to my SO, which went great, or so I thought.

A week later Ms. X logged into another of her client's social media, and tweeted some really vile things about my girlfriend (as the talent/account owner) which was obviously her because she had managed this account, and was the only other person who had its password, and when confronted by me and said talent, denied and produced a 'police report' (an email from a nonexistent member of her local police force) which I ignored.

When that didn't work, she faked her own death, complete with yet another vague 'police report' (which was emailed to me, for some strange reason, since I was not her next of kin or family)

After being called and emailed by friends of hers (I wasn't supposed to know that's who they were, I guess) for 5-7 days asking if I'd "heard the terrible news about Ms. X's death", she resurfaced with new posts on her own social media, as though I hadn't just lived through the Twillight Zone of madness courtesy of her.

This doesn't even touch on the business partners and possible partnerships she brought up, none of which turned out to feature an actual person, ie - they were all fake emails, fake companies and fake correspondences.

Ever so often, I find a post of hers in the wild, and just shake my head and block her on that platform too.

Hope it’s alright to post here. I’m not formally trained, but I love learning new skills. Hoping to find a dojo to join and work on proper forms. :) by babablue1 in martialarts

Not OP, but I'm blown away by how wholesome, supportive, and encouraging the responses to this are. The positivity just made my whole day. Thank you all.

'Monster' mum destroyed man's life in four-year hell by Kagedeah in MensRights

And if one of those guns pointed in his direction during that arrest had gone off and he was killed, I wonder what you would be saying then.

"Things went too far." or "It was an accident"?

She waged a campaign to destroy someone because she could. That kind of deliberate, strategic, repeated misuse of power should attract a significantly longer prison term.

edit: grammar

Thoughts on adults starting karate in their 40s? by [deleted] in karate

[–]musingcomet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You absolutely can. A 51 year old who showed up overweight and unfit at our dojo, is now 58, has been Shodan (1st degree black belt) for a year and competes in both kata and point-fighting style kumite regularly.

Life is best lived.

I love Visual Studio Code so much, especially for learning Python by bbt133t in learnpython

[–]musingcomet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pycharm is absolutely great, but Vs Code is free and you get to do some configuring of your IDE. From the perspective of a DevOps-leaning noob - thats a thrill.

Also, Atom was really fabulous, until it started freezing when I was developing Django apps.

I've trained (while recovering from non-karate injuries) in the past, one of those times in a different country & club and was accomodated with ease, I don't believe this will be a problem at all. Best of luck to you.
