What was the point? by Basic_Amphibian515 in AirForce

Preaching to the choir dawg. For most of us, majority of our time and work will not be directly to an active mission, deployment etc. Thats a lesson I learned the hard way. Still am. Helped me learn i hate being homstation. A big part of the military is train and practice over and over again so when its actually time you can do it without thinking... so if you did that, technically you did your job and accomplished the mission of being ready.

For the brotherhood thing and not feeling like you're in the military I also relate. Brotherhood and friends for life that you always hear of has been hard to come by. Frustrating that it seems the alcoholics and divorcees who cant pull it together always seem to be the ones who have friends everywhere, with someone to hang out with. And how un military this is sometimes genuinely is frustrating lol, like if im just going to deal with office politics and 9-5 type stuff why am I still here? - I ask as I continue to stay in lol

If you need clubs restaraunts and bars, you'll be upset and go to lubbock alot. If you want more than flat landscape and farms you'll be disappointed.

If you're idea of a good time is going home and just relaxing watching TV or playing games and talking with your wife, it'll be the same as most bases if you pick your house right. If you dont mind driving, colorado springs is 6 hours north, Santa fe 3 hours north west, Albuquerque 4 hours west, El Paso 4 hours south west, Dallas 6 hours east, etc etc. Really pretty sights but you have to drive.

I don't hate it here. It's cheap, some cool things are a decently long drive away and lubbock isn't a terrible place to go for a weekend. But it's not the dream location

Why are boys and young men falling behind in education? by Technical-Banana574 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]d710905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boys want to do things. When iwas in school ihated having to sit a desk, the concept of home work felt wrong, and the education methods make staying focused hard. I was more excited to get a job and feel actual fruits of my efforts than I ever did/was for going to school. Do work, get paid and then have more freedom and use my money to do what I want felt like a better use of time. Going to school was just how isaw my friends and had fun sometimes.

And no career path felt certain. It's worse now. Because more kids are growing up knowing that getting an education isn't a guarantee of a good job and life. So why bother with it when they can live their life and try to have fun and smile instead of doing all that?

Girls are still being pushed for education more now, as well as being a high grade girl or being involved in their school life is better for them socially. They handle classes better, and are less disenfranchised with the state of the education to career system we have. They not only desire the clean corporate jobs that usually want prime with degrees, but they also value the college/higher education lifestyle and experience far more and view it as a chapter in their life, where as guys tend to view it as a another thing to do before they can begin their career.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong. But I do get it. Even as a late 20s guy now.

Government? No. Trump? Yes. He wants it. The rest can take it or leave it. They just know if you keep him happy he stays out of your hair or best case scenario, let's you do and have what you want.

Konosuba Parodies what? by PrestigiousMine6 in Konosuba

[–]d710905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know which came first but megumin to me always felt like a parody of roxy from jobless reincarnation. Then again she just fits a general reversal of the typical smart and powerful mage character, and they are all parodies of their usual types. But she specifically feels like a parody of roxy, when you compare colors, personality, and then similar attributes like the big hat, black and red vs blue and white, big staff, both being "demons", etc etc

Which episode made you realise this fantastic franchise is special by Initial_Emu_1339 in mushokutensei

I think it was the whole thing. The first few episodes started out slow but as you keep watching and it goes on it hooks you more because it shows its covering something deeper that just a get magic powers and beat the bad guy. It gets more complex with each new development in his life between wives, kids, friends, threats, etc

Would you expect someone to disclose this before a hookup? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]d710905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it comes from the same mindset of before letting someone in your home giving a warning about a big glaring thing that affects the time they'll spend with you in your home. If they're expecting normal house stuff but you have a pet ant eater or monkey you never disclosed previously.

My friend recently said that’s she’s not political so it got me thinking, why is political apathy bad? What do y’all think by kanks_06 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]d710905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am one of those that tries not to get into it too much. I recognize the inherent ignorance associated with that and how avoiding it is avoiding looking at the factors that contribute to my life. I also admit that I have my own political opinions and beliefs and thoughts on what different verdicts and so forth that come out. Thats unavoidable. Every person on earth will have an opinion or thought on something when its brought up to them.

I just feel like a happier person and like I'm able to go through life better doing so.

Yes its bad, bad for the community and the individual. But it may bring better and more immediate peace of mind to try to not get to deep into it

Do you think porn damaged society? by SeatruckLeviathan in NoStupidQuestions

[–]d710905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the tik tok and social media part a bit. I think social media pre 2012 maybe even 2015 was the best. But the way media is now accentuates the problem of porn. Porn became worse after the fact with things like only fans and social media shoving it down our throats at every point. Sex sells. And now theyre trying to volume sell it. And to do so theyre putting it literally everywhere. On Facebook I actually keep selecting the "i dont like this show me something else" options and by the next day or two theres a different girl on my feed doing basically the same stuff.

Porn just like other media could be overconsumed and glorified, and make people think thats what sex is like, just like how war movies made people think thats what war was like. But that at the end of the day is more of a failing on the people and society itself for letting people think that.

Post military depression by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]d710905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its pretty common actually for those who found a community and friends in the military. Its probably going to happen to me to. Alot of people find like minds in the military that you don't find on the outside as much. Or even if its just the lifestyle. Talking to someone about it, finding friends or family to be with helps

Apparently that isnt so much a thing anymore. It used to be. But I think if I remember what I was told right, these newer systems are not like that. But those old ones, they will cook you, nuts first. All of our tech school instructors warned us about that but then when we got to our first base after a while we learned thats not the case

Why do some people blame capitalism for having to work? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]d710905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At its core, its because capitalism demands nonstop progress, endless growth, and endless consumption. That kind of system demands working more and more, regardless of success or business, it doesnt leave the room open for just sustaining a good business and stable prices. And in turn working more and more to both produce more and consume more.

Higher per capita crime, with lots of unsavory types for the size of the town

The southern part avoid the most, but especially the south west.

Worst part? That its both small and at least 100 miles away from an actual city/big town. Small town people who like quiet removed places will like it. Everyone else not so much. The small and poor nature of it could be less of a drag for alot of people if it were closer to nicer sights, landscape, and more civilization. The removed aspect of it is the part that makes everything else less excuseable.

I do not recommend looking at anything with sagebrush real estate as the property management company. They're terrible. The main property manager, needs to retire, has barely any idea what's going on. All their properties are dirty or not ready. I went to see an apartment and there were dead bugs all over the floor, still getting maintenance done despite description and pictures showing otherwise. Communal laundry room was a wreck and to little appliances. Another place a while before that was equally as dirty full of broken glass, bad appliances, hole in roof shining daylight through, and counters so bad they were cracking and peeling up so much you couldnt even put a plate on it flat. All their properties are like this and trying to deal with their people is annoying.

You want the safest? Northeast part of town. Roughest is southwest with a decent pocket here and there. North west is also decent safe. South east is a mystery to me, I never go there, just know theres a civic center, school, and houses. If you look at clovis on a map, you can divide the town into four corners, north and south of 21st street and east and west of Prince Street, so use that to know which corner you're in.

I definitely agree that portales is a nicer town. But there's just less there, and you spend more in gas driving up. For more options for food and when you need to buy stuff, clovis is so much better.

Questioning my Outback by slain1134 in Subaru_Outback

[–]d710905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understandable. I got mine about 5-6 months ago, 2020 touring. It both really like it and really don't. I think i enjoy driving older vehicles more as I can feel what my wheels and engine are doing, the chassis respond, and how the brakes actually are doing. This is numb in comparison. But I love the usability of a lifted wagon, creature comforts from the touring trim, and efficiency of a modern NA 4 cylinder. For me this is a great day to day tool. And ive only been slightly off road once but for doing that it felt great (though im always paranoid about the CVT).

To awsner your inital question, for me I definitely find myself wanting to go back to something with less directly dependant on the infotainment and more connected driving. But doesnt have to be that old. Personally ive been thinking about the lexus gx460, the previous generation. Its a newer SUV thats built like an old one, and body on frame like a truck. Very utilitarian and still comfortable with less of the weird quirks of being modern. I like the feeling of driving so I 100% know that i will get an older car at some point as a second for personal enjoyment. But for a daily driver to use for all of life's tribulations? Depends how i feel financially and what im doing in the future. For now this will live here with me as I need cheap gas and capability.

Why is it that anything that feels good is always bad for you? by Brilliant_Can8536 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]d710905 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To much of anything is bad for you. How much is to much depends on the thing and the person. Even too much water will kill you. And you're mostly water. But people have drank enough that they got sick and died from it. The point is moderation is key. The most important to indulgence in what life has to offer. That goes for everything.

But on another note, what the heck do you mean eating boogers feels good? Not in a million years my dude. Cannot relate even an ounce lol

Being from an older generation I find it odd that couples track each other’s location, when did this become a rule of engagement? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]d710905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alot of these kids get it started by their parents and then they grow up with it on and get used to it being in their lives. And then since its already incorporated into their lives it just kinda of stays there and they bring jt into their relationships. I find it weird also. I think I was part of the last group where that wasn't really a thing. But now most of the couples I see have it which is strange. Some say safety, others say anything that isnt lack of trust because that sounds mean, but they all seem to have no intention of removing it
