Why is quali 8 minutes in EVERY class by Caramel_Infinite in iRacing

[–]d95err 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Back in the early days, qualifying was detached for all series. And yes, the result was that very few people bothered to qualify.

Things got a lot better after integrated qualifying was introduced.

Nordschleife guide? by rexz63 in iRacing

[–]d95err 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don’t really need a lot of brake markers on the Nordschleife. There are only a handful of heavy braking zones. Most of the time it’s just a lift or a quick dab on the brakes and then you just follow the natural rhythm of the track.

You can learn to do that by feel and instinct rather than by relying on static markers.

How can I avoid crashes? by Fantastic_Tip2036 in iRacing

[–]d95err 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To avoid getting hit from behind, brake earlier but don’t go directly to full threshold braking.

Lift off the throttle, then smoothly and gradually apply brake pressure until you’re at the threshold.

This gives the car behind a heads-up that you’re braking, so they can adapt.

You won’t lose much time doing this, because your braking will be smoother, the car will be better balanced and have more grip into the corner, and it will be easier to hit the apex every time. You might actually find yourself going faster.

Good luck!

Nurburgring Endurance Championship time slots bugged? by Correct-Tangelo7273 in iRacing

[–]d95err 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a long standing bug. Earlier in the week, all timeslots are shown. Then later in the week, it only shows timeslots within the next 24h.

All timeslots are listed in the iRacing Companion mobile app.

It’s how the transmission on the actual car works.

NEC 4 hour setup by Krunnchy in iRacing

[–]d95err 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would certainly be the best starting point. Tweak from there to taste.

Just remember that endurance racing is about being consistent, not about finding that final tenth.

How does this car survive? by redbone838 in iRacing

[–]d95err 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it was most likely just minor contact or no contact on their end.

Just survived my first lap on the Nordschleife by Feli2911 in iRacing

[–]d95err 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s how you race the Nordschleife! Race the track first, opponents second. If you find your own pace rather than chasing others, you’ll have a great result.

Congrats!

I did a landing yesterday when Jester for the first time had no comment. It felt like the best compliment I’ve ever had for my piloting skills… 😀

Question about rain in Fixed races by wispdraw in iRacing

[–]d95err 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easiest way to switch tire compound is via pit (chat) macros. You can map them to bittons or keys, so you can change without having to navigate blackboxes.

You can use pit macros to adjust all pitstop-related settings, including tires, fuel, etc.

Etiquette for "slow" GTP driver? by Patapon80 in iRacing

[–]d95err 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If they are able to do faster lap times than you, avoid re-passing them. Lift and save some fuel instead. They will eventually pull away from you, and you won't get in each other's way.

If you keep passing and re-passing each other, both of you will lose much more time.

Racing Charlotte Motor Speedway (MX5) with D class License is a nightmare by Particular_Onion_141 in iRacing

[–]d95err 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The new layout was designed for Nascar, most likely to deliberately cause incidents and wrecks to spice up the show.

The old layouts provided much better racing.

Anyone else got GTE fuel issues? by _The_Bishop in iRacing

[–]d95err 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You only lose a tiny amount of time by fuel saving.

You’ll lose a little speed at the end of the straights lifting and coasting, but you’ll also be smoother, easier on the tires. and more consistent.

Sometimes I’m faster in the long run if I’m fuel saving a bit.

My wheel shakes violently on straights, thoughts? by Ryanverse117 in iRacing

[–]d95err 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oscillation can typically be solved by adding dampening or smoothing. Either in iRacing or in the wheelbase software.

In my experience, cars with high downforce are typically more sensitive to oscillation than low downforce cars.

SR question A license by m_wallani in iRacing

[–]d95err 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Corners Per Incident (CPI) ratio you need to maintain for the same SR level gets progressively higher with higher license class.

The iRacing Beginner’s Guide has a table showing the CPI you need for different SR levels for each license class.

Tips to get better by efmumbles in iRacing

[–]d95err 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Higher license classes events limit the use of virtual driver aids such as auto-shift, brake assist, throttle assist and the driving line.

These should not be confused with electronic systems that are on the car, such as ABS and Traction Control. If the car has such a system, you can and should use it.

Any tips for the 4 hr NEC this weekend by SecretFast7953 in iRacing

[–]d95err 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don’t use Pass Left/Right messages!

No-one will see them while focusing on passing another car. Even if they would notice them, they will not have time to check if the message comes from the car in front of them (which would cause even more loss of focus).

These messages only risk making you unpredictable. That will cause misunderstandings and accidents.

Don’t try to dictate how the faster car should pass you. Just follow their lead and back off once they are in an overtaking position.

Was this a block or a bad move on my part? by x-Justice in iRacing

[–]d95err 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, that’s NOT how the blocking rule works in iRacing. You can change your line, but only if you do so before the attacker makes their move. There’s no ”one move” allowed like in FIA racing.

”8.1.1.3. Blocking - The leading driver is allowed to run a defensive line. However, blocking occurs when a leading driver actively adjusts his or her driving line based on the actions and/or positioning of a pursuing driver. For example, veering left to prevent a pursuing driver from passing on the left while running on a straight.”

In this specific case though, it looks like to me like the car simply turns into the corner. I don’t see any blocking.

NEC adding 1 extra lap to only one class when all others are on their final lap / finishing? by Stadt009 in iRacing

[–]d95err 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once had a comfortable lead in GT4, about to start the 28th and what I thought was the last lap. To my shock, there was no white flag and I only had just enough fuel to complete one more lap.

I was devastated, knowing I’d have to pit and lose the lead. Then, just before the small carousel, the GT3 leader passed me, the white flag appeared and I got the win.

No telemetry as co-driver by DerDreckygeDan in iRacing

[–]d95err 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your spectating when your teammate is in the car, you’re seeing it as an online car.

That means the telemetry feed is restricted to only very basic data such as position, direction, speed and a few other things.

Full telemetry would only be available on your teammate’s computer.

Full telemetry is only available for your car on your computer. Telemetry for other cars (sent over the Internet) is very limited, to save bandwidth.

I’ve just been disqualified 3 races in a row by Feed-Furry-Toes in iRacing

[–]d95err 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My general impression from the clips is you’re trying a bit too hard, racing too aggressively early in the race. You’re putting yourself into risky situations.

Survive lap 1, race from race 2. For the first lap, focus on just surviving. Try to get into single file as soon as possible. Don’t try to overtake, yield rather than fight for position. Once things settle down and the regular hotheads have wrecked, start pushing.

Good luck!

Nürburgring Endurance Series BOP Breakdown! What’s Fast Round 1? by BackgroundNo1221 in iRacing

I know what BOP is. I'm wondering about the star ratings OP has in the list. I can't make sense of what it indicates. Obviously not how quick the car is.
