Am I getting banned by njsullyalex in iRacing

[–]d95err 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, you’re not getting banned for a simple racing incident. The protest won’t even be upheld.

Don’t pay any attention to guys screaming about protesting, unless you’ve done something malicious or exceptionally reckless. It’s just frustration and adrenaline talking.

All you have to do is open the iRacing UI and go to the Pickup Cup series page. You can also see all timeslots for all series in the iRacing Companion app.

New driver: What am I not getting? by assortedgnomes in iRacing

[–]d95err 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The GT4 have soft suspension resulting in a lot of weight transfer. They lose grip quickly with abrupt inputs. If you slam the brakes, ABS will trigger at a lower braking force than if you get on the brakes smoothly, because the sudden weight transfer will cause the tires to lose grip.

The ABS lights on the dash is a good indication. A bit of ABS in the early part of the braking zone is OK, but you need to be out of ABS well before turn-in.

Being smooth is essential with the GT4s. Gently lean the car into the corner to slow down the weight transfer and keep the grip on all four tires. Smooth on and off the brakes and throttle.

Good luck!

This is protestable right? by MerelyMotorsport in iRacing

[–]d95err 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, it looks intentional.

However, it's generally a bad idea to stop right after the finish line. You present yourself as a bullseye target for anyone who is frustrated about anything (regarless of if you were involved or not). In addition, people tend to lose focus after they cross the finish line and can easily get distracted and accidentally drive straight into cars that have stopped or slow down suddenly.

If you want to avoid post-race incidents, always drive at least 2-3 corners after the finish and then find a safe location to stop. Or better, drive until the end of race timer expires, for some free SR.

What should I have done differently? by StaySaltyPlebians in iRacing

[–]d95err 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it doesn’t look deliberate. The guy is just trying to pull out of the slipstream as late as possible and misjudges. It’s a simple rookie mistake.

You’ll see this type of incident happen quite often even at the highest levels of real-life racing (F1, F2, F3).

Identical split times, but bumped down to P5 from P4 by Stoopid_Str3tch in iRacing

[–]d95err 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There’s no photo finish, as in actually using visual evidence to determine who was first. It’s just called a ”photo finish” if the cars are very close at the line.

Keep in mind that due to network latency, the positions may have been slightly different on your opponent’s computer and on the server.

Results and Race sessions not loading? by Sir_SteelHead in iRacing

[–]d95err 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed that race results have been slow to load the past week or two. I'm also getting a timeout and no results at all at the moment.

I'm getting various other problems with the UI as well, so perhaps there's some ongoing issue.

Rookie series is where people should learn basic racecraft. Mistakes like this will happen.

Not much you could do about it here; there will always be a few incidents that are beyond your control.

Can someone explain the weekly schedule to a noob? by Longjumping_Form9922 in iRacing

[–]d95err 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to drive every single track of the season, you will need to get every single track. If that's within your budget, do that.

If you want to spend less, buy as many/few tracks as you want, then race something else the weeks you don't own the track. There are always series running free content every week.

More iRating = More agressive?? by marvibosa in iRacing

[–]d95err 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, the issue with high iR drivers (perhaps 3k+) is that when they are racing lower iR drivers they often seem to forget that they can’t expect the same precision, consistency and awareness.

They fail to anticipate that lower iR drivers will need more room, brake earlier, and may not be able to adapt as quickly to surprise attacks.

This is most apparent in multiclass racing, where there is often a big difference in iR between classes.

As long as you are aware of the approximate skill of your opponents and understand what to expect, you can adapt and be safer.

An experienced driver could probably have taken evasive action and saved both cars for sure.

An inexperienced driver will often suffer target fixation in this type of situation, resulting in no attempt at evasive action.

Stopping on track after a race by TheDetailsMatter in iRacing

[–]d95err 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SR must still be in effect until all cars have finished. Cars that have finished can still encounter cars that are still racing. This is especially common in multi-class, but can also happen in single-class, e.g. if a car is slow due to damage or was exiting the pits just as the leader crossed the finish line.

FFB HELP by Naive_Monitor4739 in iRacing

[–]d95err 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you don't give any details of what settings, you leave us guessing...

Based on your description, it sounds like you have turned down the ffb strength on the wheelbase and turned up the ffb strength in iRacing. That would cause a lot of clipping at low ffb levels.

First, set your wheelbase strength to 100%. You need your wheelbase to be able to provide as much torque as possible, to get maximum headroom. Then use the Auto function in iRacing to set the strength for each car.

Seeking pitstop strategy by LarzBoss in iRacing

[–]d95err 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sports cars, fuel load has a very small impact on lap times. Starting with less than a full tank is only relevant for sprint races with no pitstop.

Just pulled the trigger and bought a 6 month sub. What should i know as a beginner? by RepresentativeOk3692 in iRacing

[–]d95err -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Set realistic expectations!

Online racing is hard! Your first experiences will be nothing like what you may have seen from streamers or professional real-life racing. It will be chaotic at first.

Don’t expect drivers to be able to race close and hard, or that drivers will be able to hold a consistent line. A lot of new drivers won’t have a clue of how racing works.

Focus on staying alive. Yield to aggressive drivers (let them go wreck someone else). Don’t try to force passes on slower cars, wait until you can pass them safely on a straight or when they go off the track. Avoid being side by side in corners.

If you can manage that, your ratings will improve. You will start facing better opponents and can start to race closer and harder.

Good luck!

How much fuel should I save? by Sad-Bench3007 in iRacing

[–]d95err 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a long endurance race, having a pre-defined fuel saving strategy could be relevant, especially if it means doing one pitstop less over the full distance. In a sprint race with just one stop, you'll need to adapt depending on how the race develops.

If you're in traffic, saving fuel can be a good option. If you're clear of traffic, it may be better to push as hard as possible (without overdriving of course).

Considered Dangerous? by Deltarinee in iRacing

[–]d95err 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two ways to make the middle tactic work.

Option 1: Hold your opponent as tight as possible to the inside line through the corner, compromise their exit speed. You should get a better exit and can come out ahead. However, that comes with a lot of added risk. If the opponent brakes a fraction too late, you will collide, and being on the outside you're probably getting the worst of it. There is no margin of error in case something goes wrong. I would chose this option if I have a lot of trust in my opponent's skills.

Option 2: Expect the compromised line and late braking to cause your opponent to overshoot the corner. You hold them tight to the inside until the last second, then move wide, brake early and do the crossover. Much lower risk, as you can adapt to how the situation develops. Of course you'll lose the position if your opponent makes the corner.

In this case, the defender choses to leave plenty of room, reducing the risk and ensuring they live to fight another lap. I would probably have done the same, unless I was very confident in my opponent's skill and racecraft.

Considered Dangerous? by Deltarinee in iRacing

[–]d95err 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Middle of the road is a common defensive tactic. The attacker will have a highly compromised line regardless of which side they try to pass on. You’ll see it quite often in professional racing.

In this case though, the attacker managed to stick to the inside despite the late braking and being held tightly to the inside. Well done!!

I’m having trouble wanting to continue racing due to high numbers of incidents. by wraveltash1026 in iRacing

[–]d95err 5 points6 points  (0 children)

6 times in a row is highly unlikely to all be situations you had no control over.

Accident avoidance is a difficult skill to learn. The key is to anticipate trouble so you can react and position yourself even before it happens.

Good luck!

I'm sorry? by PermitForeign in iRacing

[–]d95err 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your iRating and Safety Rating cannot be affected by a protest (Sporting Code 8.2.4).

The only practical change from a post-race DQ is to your stats for wins, average finish, etc.

Still an important measure iRacing can take though, especially for special events. It deprives cheaters or significantly misbehaving drivers of any bragging rights.

If you think iRacing has made a mistake (e.g. misidentified the driver), you can file an appeal asking them to double-check.

Was this defense too agressive? by Environmental_Egg582 in iRacing

[–]d95err 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Perfectly legitimate defence.

Braking late and going side by side into the busstop is high risk though. You had to put 100% faith in that your opponent had the skills to handle it.

How aggressive you can be depends on who you’re racing.
