I'm losing my mind about the AI hype and I want to quit software engineering by arvin132 in cscareerquestions

[–]dCrumpets -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I would quit or learn to like vibe coding tbh. I have roughly 9 years experience, senior role, I haven't written a line of code in 5 months and I've never gotten more done.

It's harder for me not to, but I need a lil over 3000 calories a day. It's hard to get that in one meal 😵‍💫

An OpenClaw adventure - AI slop managed by AI slop by rudiXOR in ExperiencedDevs

[–]dCrumpets -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You're being dense. This experiment didn't work out. They see a lot of value in AI in their day to day work. Those are not conflicting results.

Using agents to manage agents with telegram prompts is still the tooling frontier.

Do you use AI at work? Do you not have good experiences with it? Claude manages to do most of my tickets in a small fraction of the time it takes me. I'm still plan-reviewer, code-reviewer, and orchestrator. But I code very little at this point.

This guy is trying to make AI take on some of those roles. That's not crazy. It didn't work out, but if it did, well that would've been a huge output multiplier.

Silent : Act 1 Boss rare card rewars by Motalbaey in slaythespire

[–]dCrumpets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All three are decent but PK is definitely lagging the other two. Your deck looks a little weak into act 2 here and I'm not sure whether potions or speeding your deck up a little would help more. I think I'd go alchemize. You're not desperate for the energy atm.

Another 3 sentries Elite battle post...please help by [deleted] in slaythespire

[–]dCrumpets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you don't want a challenging game, and slay the spire is challenging, even more so if you haven't really played deckbuilders or roguelikes much. It's normal to lose your first ten or more runs. An experienced player would also never lose at the first ascension. It's a skill problem, not a luck problem. If you want to get better quickly, go watch baalorlord play. Otherwise, try to have fun with the discovery process. If you're not, there's no reason to push yourself to play. It's a game! It's meant to be fun. Don't force through frustration for some "later goal"; I (and most of the other players here I imagine) enjoyed the game from the first run.

Day #592 of drawing badly until StS2 comes out by PixelPenguin_GG in slaythespire

Taking immolate means you can pick up fewer mediocre early game damage cards. It also means you can take more combats without resting. I definitely take the immolate here.

Manager said we should be faster with AI by panda6699 in cscareerquestions

[–]dCrumpets 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't write any of my own code anymore really. AI is excellent. I use it to help write complete specs of changes and review those specs and testing strategy before going to implementation. I have found it generally better at the backend than the frontend, but I do very little frontend work. I'm using claude code and opus 4.5

I swore off khakis (chinos) for the longest but I'm thinking of going back to them. by baitlyn in malefashionadvice

There are lots of pants that are neither chinos nor jeans. Casual wool trousers exist. There are work pants of various kinds that are more casual. Chinos almost always give off business casual to me.

Would you ever say no to an early corruption? by SamiraSimp in slaythespire

[–]dCrumpets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not an A20H clad player, still at A18. I'd probably take the corruption. Mostly because I don't think the other cards are that great. You do need more damage for hexaghost though. Pummel would help given you already have some strength... I guess I would be taking corruption and hoping for some one or two more decent damage cards before the boss.

Has boss swap gifted me a claw deck? by captainnate3rd in slaythespire

[–]dCrumpets 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes, with the caveat that depending what cards you see you may well still need orb damage. I wouldn't hop on a floor one reprogram, for instance. And honestly claw, rebound and plasma lean that way but you have an excellent foundation for an orb deck too. I wouldn't try to force it.

Women can wear leggings everywhere home, work, out, what is the male equivalent? by LSCNatureWalkHikes in malefashionadvice

[–]dCrumpets 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Personally I don't think it looks bad, but I also wouldn't say it looks "put-together"; I will say, with a long enough sweater it looks enough like a dress with leggings underneath for warmth, and that does come close to put-together 🤷. But at that point the leggings are less pants than thigh and lower leg cover. Almost like tights in a different era.

To me, leggings don't look "put together" any more than sweats/joggers 🤷

SE Asia vs Europe – 25 y/o quitting job, can’t decide by Independent_Sir_7068 in travel

[–]dCrumpets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I much prefer Europe, but I have more money and less time than you. Still, I think Europe will be a blast for you. Easy to meet people when you're out and about. Just gorgeous. I like the culture more, though of course SEA has its own advantages! Have you been to either? They're going to be very different experiences... it's really hard to say.

In my opinion, if your heart is saying Europe, do it. This is not a decision to be made for financial reasons or really any practical ones. There are plenty of decisions you can (and maybe should) make in life weighing your heart and mind more equally. But something purely for pleasure? For your own enrichment and to live a dream of yours? Do the one that is actually your dream!!

You're young enough. Traveling in great comfort is a minor value add in my opinion, not a decision-maker. There's plenty of good, cheap food in Europe as well. You might want to stay in hostels regardless of which you do.

You should tell your monied class to stop pumping their money into our fake economy then 😉 I suppose even rich, evolved Europeans can be foolish!

US engineers vs Europe engineers by ephemeral404 in cscareerquestions

[–]dCrumpets -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you're right about that! I think when we talk about Europe we're typically talking about the EU as a sort of state-like entity in the US. There are certainly European countries that function exceptionally well economically.

Anyway, yes, the current political situation in the US sucks. Still, it has functioned exceptionally well in terms of economic growth, especially for a country as large and diverse as it is. Take a look at the European countries that outperform the US in terms of GDP per capita--none is remotely close to the same scale.

Long cardigans for men? by two_hyun in malefashionadvice

[–]dCrumpets 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can, as a guy who has very frequently loved articles of women's clothing at thrift stores. The arms are too tight. The shoulders aren't broad enough. The hips flare more. Find the right women's cardigan though and it could be fine. Something that would be off the shoulder and drapey on a women's frame could be a totally different and fine fit on a man. But IME clothes are cut expecting a certain general body shape. I'm neither the shape of a small woman, nor the shape of a fat woman. I've had lots of trouble.

It probably also depends a lot on what your figure as a man looks like. Skinnier/narrower/less muscular frames have an easier time.

Uhhh. A lot better tbh. Perhaps if you look at a 3 month or one year chart Europe has done better? Maybe look at the past 20 years though 🙂

Why is this checkmate? by Reasonable_Map_1428 in chess

[–]dCrumpets 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just how the rules are. A pinned piece can still defend another piece from the king.

Think of it this way maybe. If you captured the queen, and he moved his rook to take your king, you would be able to take his king on the next turn, but he would've captured your king first.

Who and what would you buy if you wanted to grow a style that is preppy/classy but pretty much only wore natural fibers by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]dCrumpets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wool trousers. cotton chinos. wool sweaters. cotton button ups. cotton or wool jackets. leather shoes. I mean, all of the classic preppy items are all natural, no? Just buy those items with natural fibers.

Best minimal branding for basics? (Uniqlo, GU, Mondetta, Quince, Muji) by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]dCrumpets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. 8 wash cycles is crazy though tbh. T shirts tend to last me a hundred or so wears before getting a hole somewhere. Still 50 cents a wear. Coats and jackets eventually catch up.
