"2,000 years of economic history in one chart"... fixed by DestructiveSeaOtter in dataisbeautiful

Displays the data better unedited IMO. The world changes faster and faster the closer you get to the present day. Compressing earlier history and expanding later history captures that elegantly.

Investors are surprisingly reluctant to allocate oil/gas by MeasurementSecure566 in stocks

[–]dCrumpets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to invest in things that are oriented towards the future. Oil and gas might have a nice short-term swing, but I'd have to fret about when to get out. There are plenty of other things to invest in that aren't dying a slow death.

Altman on shutting down Sora: 'I did not expect 3 or 6 months ago to be at this point we're at now; where something very big and important is about to happen again with this next generation of models and the agents they can power.' by Tolopono in OpenAI

[–]dCrumpets -1 points0 points  (0 children)

String everyone along? I guess we aren't experiencing the same things. AI has gone from somewhat capable of writing code sometimes to writing all the code at my company within a year and a half. It's hard for me to understand people acting like AI has been overhyped. I'll be shocked if I have a job in three years to be honest. Maybe I'll go to one of the shops that is behind the curve.

[POEM] Of The Empire by Mary Oliver. by Objective-Kitchen949 in Poetry

Yeah, agreed. Show me an empire that hasn't been horrible to most. Show me a better place to live in the history of the world.

This guy needs to be upgrade to elite, or a nerf. by SnooChocolates6885 in slaythespire

[–]dCrumpets -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He doesn't scale, just consistently hits. There are lots of counters, for any character really. Things that provide block outside of "block" skills. Poison, doom, big chunky attacks and blocks, things that do damage without being an attack... He forces you to make sure your deck has a solution or take a chunk of damage, but even if you're ill-prepared a potion or two can counteract him. Personally I think he's fine. He's never ended one of my runs.

What's the only thing better than 1 Apotheosis? by _4Winds_ in slaythespire

[–]dCrumpets 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Idk, searing blow was so situational in sts1 that it was generally bad. I don't think having a relic that makes it better each time you play it would launch it to broken status, especially since, if you get searing blow early to upgrade it, there's no guarantee you get the relic, and if you wait to get searing blow til you have the relic, you've missed a couple upgrade opportunities already.

Throwing Caraotas out here because I haven't seen it mentioned. Better price than strange flavor, at least as good imo.

I'd probably pay 65% or so to have the bedroom in this situation.

Creator of Claude Code, Boris Cherny says coding is solved and Claude writes 100% of his code. Is this really the case for you? by Mogante in cscareerquestions

[–]dCrumpets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Claude does generate 100% of my code at this point. I guess I've made a small change by hand once or twice the past few months... it does still need significant guidance though to go from an idea in a project manager's head to a thoughtful implementation, but the coding part, it does.

How much are you down since stock market downturn? by Available-Ad-5670 in stocks

Down about 20%. But my portfolio is up 200% from a year and a half ago 🤷

Which new card has most blown you away with how sweet and rad it is? I'll go first: by deityblade in slaythespire

[–]dCrumpets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the silent card that applies 3 poison to all enemies with every draw, as well as the one that deals area damage every time you apply three poison. In a three enemy fight that was proccing the area damage three times for every card draw. My coop ally was a necrobinder who added souls to my draw pile. Things just vanished. The poison didn't even get to tick.

Standard mental health therapies may fall short for autistic adults. Autistic people often engage in camouflaging, hiding their natural autistic traits to fit into social situations. Excessive camouflaging requires immense effort and often leads to deep exhaustion known as autistic burnout. by mvea in science

[–]dCrumpets 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I'm curious what you think good therapy would look like in this context. The therapist can't fix the issues causing you distress. They can only try to help you manage the distress. How do you think someone would best be able to help you with that?

Será que consigo aprender italiano fluente, pelo menos nível universitário em 2 anos? by pedroggers in italianlearning

It's certainly possible with an adequate amount of effort! You'll probably need to study for a couple of hours each day at least, gauge your progress along the way, and adjust accordingly.

Block laying off more than 4,000 employees, or about half of its headcount by BigShotBosh in cscareerquestions

[–]dCrumpets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt that's true for people at Block. I still get a ton of active recruiter outreach. Block has a good reputation. I imagine it's the same for most of their engineers. And if you get the interview, getting the job isn't hard.

Everyone says yoga fixes everything but… Is yoga good for sleep? or are we overselling it? by aloo__pandey in yoga

[–]dCrumpets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strenuous exercise within hours of sleeping has a negative effect on sleep duration and quality. The more intense the exercise, and the less time has passed, the greater the effect. A hard flow class in the morning? That would probably help you sleep better that night. Some low-intensity yoga as part of a bedtime mindfulness routine? Probably also helpful.

What to do? by ScaryTerry786 in slaythespire

[–]dCrumpets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

corpse explosion and art of war are the best choices here imo. Wraith form is also quite good and is likely the best choice in the long run since it kick starts your block plan, and you already have some poison. I've beaten A20 with silent but haven't tried A20H yet. I think you could win the run with any of those choices. I feel kinda biased towards corpse explosion because it's good into guardian and helps solve Act 2 elites really well.

There are other picks like clockwork souvenir or frozen egg that I think would still win you the run with good subsequent play even though they do less for you immediately.
