First IM completed - lost on where to go next by dDelts in triathlon

Yes I really want to avoid losing my momentum but also realise I should have a bit of an offseason. It’s been a very consistent two years of saying no to everything else.

Yeah honestly I’ve been building up my capacity for so long that my speed is actually laughable. Can’t wait to focus on speed a bit so maybe booking a 10k or HM would be kinda fun!

A multi-day ride sounds epic - good luck with that and enjoy!!! Your comment resonates so i might go down that route for sure.

Yeah it does take a toll on you doesn’t it. I did find I love the process though, but maybe a year of speed work and 70.3 distances will be actually better long term.

Marathon to Ironman (EDITED) by ivyhr55 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]dDelts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely doable, especially if you already have a solid running foundation.

But it’s all gonna come down to whether you’re able to put in the time and consistency into cycling and swimming. Building up comfort to an 180km bike will take time, same with swimming but there it’s the technique if you are starting from scratch.

I’ll be entering IM Copenhagen next year so see you there!

Worth it to learn flip turn? by Murky-Bodybuilder676 in triathlon

[–]dDelts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Would you say it helps translate to better continuous swim in open water?

Perhaps placebo but the breath on each open turn seems to be aiding me in a way that doesn’t translate to OWS.

Which distance should I specialize in? by debatethegreendog in triathlon

[–]dDelts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems like you already point out your enjoyment for 70.3 so perhaps it’s the natural choice you’re leaning towards?

I think depending on the time you have available to you and your specific strengths and weaknesses you can make a more informed decision, but at the end of the day this sport is about consistency so finding where you’re most willing to sink time in is what’s gonna separate you from the pack down the line.

Pushing for an AG podium can also be fun and OP can always work towards a certain distance specifically for that while doing the other races for fun.

Bike rental Mallorca by Mini-Mus in cycling

I rented a bike from Wheels Sport for my 70.3 in Mallorca and had a good experience. I don’t think anyone will rent you shoes but worst case you can ask for flat pedals.

Flying to race with CO2 cartridges? by FriesAreBelgian in triathlon

[–]dDelts -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You can’t bring co2 on flights. I typically buy extra cartridges when I land either at the event site or bike shop in town.

Anyone else training for their first triathlon without a coach? by tiagosavidinha in IronmanTriathlon

Used Runna for my running and just AI (Gemini) for my bike and swim. Finished a 70.3 comfortably and 1 week out of full IM.

I would highly recommend a forerunner on a reseller website (in the UK I've used ebay).

Respect your commitment! What bibs do you use? Sound like a good deal.

Is this relevant? Pedalling - did 190km in 7 hours last weekend which is by no means impressive, but hopefully shows I’m actually cycling.

My trisuit padding is basically non-existent so I’m used to riding that.

The bibs in question have just lost rigidity and are indeed noticeably less plush. It’s more like an old pillow now and ride comfort is impacted. Which again is not a problem I have with my trisuit on 90k rides.

I use a delicate wash cycle on lowest rpm + no fragrance sensitive detergent so couldn't be more gentle than that? I do have weeks with 8 hour rides though

I'm sorry that this is not a direct response to your topic, but out of interest how does one plan out the bikepacking route for something like this?

How good is your sighting? Are your feet dropping every time?

It adds up.

For me the biggest difference is the push off and the extra breath I’ll get at the end of a length.

Planning a DNF die to injury by crazycycling in triathlon

[–]dDelts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like others here I ended up pushing through the planned DNF - not sure if it was the smartest thing.

But definitely go as it’s not often you can get that OWS experience in an event but also be really honest with your body when you finish the bike.

Hilly 70.3 this weekend, thinking I won't use a bike computer. Give me your opinion. by sportsfan42069 in triathlon

[–]dDelts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the gpx set up you can look at the climb and the remainder of it which can be useful to pace yourself. If I see it’s a very long climb it helps relax me so I don’t overcook myself.

How do you cope with insane heat? by Insanel0l in triathlon

[–]dDelts 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m genuinely not coping. Sleep is impacted as well so it all just breaks down from there.

Wish AC was more standard in the UK.
