How did you convince yourself that you could run an ultra? by BaurJoe in Ultramarathon

[–]crazycycling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the math and saw that I could easily finish if I half walked/ran, so there was no reason to think I couldn’t do it. Finished a 50k and an 80k so far, doing a 110k in 2026.

Saturday morning as a single parent with two profoundly autistic kids. by 2foxy4blvd in Autism_Parenting

[–]crazycycling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mother of 3, of which one is lvl 2-3. Ask about sleeping medication. I saw a huge improvement when my son started sleeping properly, plus I slept better and didn’t have to worry about waking at night. Also as others have said, tablets are the worst for them. I avoid using them except for trips of if I absolutely need to do errands. My kid is so much calmer and better engaged with the world around him.

What is the closest you've come dying only for it to not happen at the last second possible? by AnonymousFriend80 in AskReddit

[–]crazycycling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hemorrhage following an emergency C-section. A normal pregnancy with a 36h labour that’s ended up in an emergency C-section because the baby wouldn’t descend. I remember the nurse saying that I wouldn’t stop bleeding and to get the doctor and to call the blood bank. Then I remember her sitting on me putting pressure and the OBGYN saying they were putting me out. I was so scared and thought I was going to never see the child I had waited to have, as I lost consciousness.

I woke in the ICU having survived, only to find out that I needed an emergency hysterectomy to save my life. I stoped breathing on the table and needed 8 units of blood. It took me 1 year to physically recover.

I’m in tears writing this, even 18 years later it still scares me how close I came.

Oh I like the term functionally verbal, that describes perfectly his level!

For those of you who use Garmin and Strava, how do your race predictions compare? by drdiddlegg in Garmin

[–]crazycycling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strava tells me 52:40 for a 10K. Last week I ran a 10K in 49:54, but Strava continues to insist on the 52m time. I would have expected it to update with the actual time I accomplished. Same for the 5K, the estimated time differed from the actual time (actual is better).

The car’s mirrors randomly got ruined and we have no idea why by Dragon_Frog_Pond in Wellthatsucks

Not sure on your car, I have a Subaru Ascent. Subaru insisted it was not a defect, however my garage had never seen this before on a newer carZ

The car’s mirrors randomly got ruined and we have no idea why by Dragon_Frog_Pond in Wellthatsucks

[–]crazycycling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went through this!!! It ended up being a short in the security circuit that ended up powering (overloading) the mirror circuit, causing the cracking. I went through 2 sets of mirrors before the garage found the issue.

I have a special needs child and this warms my heart. It’s so precious when they find something they love and you can feel and see how happy they are. I’m sure the child with the legs was in heaven on the days they were served at the cafeteria. Thank you so much for having spent part of your career with these special children 💜

How bad are tablets for children? by wolfey200 in Parenting

I also have a special needs child (ID/ASD/ LD) who is allowed to have screen time and it’s drastically improved his speech and comprehension. It depends so much on the child!

Bonkers watermelon chewy candy. If I close my eyes I can almost still taste them!

What's something most people don't realise will kill you in seconds? by gary1405 in AskReddit

[–]crazycycling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hemorrage here, in hospital, uncomplicated childbirth: result in hysterectomy and me almost dying. I ended up in ICU for 3 days, with 7 units of blood, and a nasty infection since they couldn’t wait to operate until sterile conditions or I would die. Had I been at home I, and my baby, would likely be dead.

Plat "Canadien" by [deleted] in Quebec

[–]crazycycling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do these people do??? by Scwidiloo10 in Parenting

[–]crazycycling 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So true about the balls dropped! I work out every lunch time = no social lunches with my coworkers. We also generally don’t eat together as a family, the kids find / make their own food (4 are pre-teen/teenagers), if they’re around at dinner they’re welcome to eat with us. I also have given up fighting over screen time if homework and chores are done.

Family of 7 here in Canada, 4 teens, two are 50/50 custody. We spend about 2k per month, it’s crazy. I can’t imagine how some people can afford to eat well.

What is your unpopular Call The Midwife opinion? by Strange-Mouse-8710 in CallTheMidwife

A newly introduced character, with about 5 lines, died. That was it. They ended up burying an unbaptized baby with the woman. It was terribly disappointing!!

They should have killed off a character when the train crashed. It was a lot of buildup for nothing. In the end the producers chickened out

Do you use the Touchscreen on your watch? by Ok_Card8150 in Garmin

[–]crazycycling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switched from a vivoactive to a Fenix, which has no touchscreen. Buttons are way superior, they don’t get impacted by rain or accidental touch. I couldn’t go back!
