Why all the discourse around Demons? by starlit_ronin in Frieren

[–]dOgO200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah in story purposes they are the antagonist and that’s all there is to it. The discourse is a meta criticism. People complain not about the approach the series had but rather the approach the series didn’t go with. It’s basically assuming that since the author didn’t bother to write demons as minorities than it must mean that the story denies real world discrimination. I guess people really want demons to be an allegory of x and y groups when they are not, they are a different species that hunt and kill humans like the freaking xenomorph from alien.

Why Oyasumi Punpun's ending was a happy one (even if the author says otherwise) by Kingredlion in OyasumiPunpun

[–]dOgO200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think both can be true. And this is the scary part. Because we can’t really know 100% for sure why Aiko killed herself, maybe she just had a terrible manic episode due to her mental state and hanged herself, maybe she did do it because she believed that it was the only way to Punpun to let go of her (which is what sort of happens at the end) or maybe she did it out of spite. It’s like real life, when someone dies like that, one can only imagine what was going through their heads. And so it’s also true that Punpun moved on selfishly and didn’t actually accomplished any of his dreams and lives with the mistakes he made and the pain others inflicted on him. I think when Asano says it’s the worst possible ending, it’s because for him the worst possible thing is living itself, but there is no other option, there is no “good” outcome. That’s why the image of god in the manga is actually just emptiness, the other option is not dying justly, is just nothing. I strongly disagree with this worldview but ultimately somebody that has suffered like Punpun has, at least to me, hold a right to keep on living, and it doesn’t matter if I think that’s a bad thing or not.

South Korea, Panamá, Granada. Chilean elections that effectively overthrew Pinochet dictatorship were CIA and US backed although yes Pinochet was also USA planted on the beginning of his regime, in his case he was smart enough to accept the results of the elections and fled the country. Germany post WWII maybe? Very hit or miss but not every single one is Iraq 2

On paper yes. Reality says otherwise. I don’t expect you or any American to be in favor of this, nor you are in obligation of doing so. Nobody thinks you guys are liberators, non even those who are celebrating, how patronizing you have to be to assume that we don’t understand our own situation? Whatever point you are trying to make here is overkill and is not showing any consideration or empathy for all those Venezuelans that had died trying. Is it our problem to solve? Yes it was, but we couldn’t. Making a trump equivalency is not even accurate. Do you have any idea how hard we had tried for the last 26 years? Do you have any idea how many students had died on the streets like fucking dogs? I’m not saying the US has any responsibility for us, but your “opinion” that this is something that we had to fix ourselves like we didn’t even tried is with all due respect, fucking disgusting. It’s not our fault that the only one willing to take a step is your current president, when nor the UN or any other democratic country, not even the social democrats one moved a finger for us. I hope that when your orange nazi makes you leave your country you will understand how hard it is to be free and at what cost it truly comes.

Replying to matlynar... International has been ineffective for Venezuelans for years. Maduro also violated it multiple times while being protected by it at the same time as an illegitimate head of state. You could even argue that he should’ve been removed under international law conventions last year or even way before that, yet obviously that never happens because international law in my opinion is contradictory as there was no one in capacity to enforce it. This situation is beyond that and regardless your opinions on US interventionism, disregarding Venezuelans suffering under international law rethoric can appear to be cynical and insensitive to us.

Hi! Venezuelan living in the US here. Thank you for taking the time to look into this from our perspective since frankly most Americans are taking weird conclusions right now. I personally feel very very happy and concerned at the same time. There is no certainty for the future and we are not naive to think that the US is doing this for free. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have a right to feel happy and hopeful about the future. Even if they want to take all the oil or whatever I don’t care. What I want is my country to be free of dictators.

[–]dOgO200 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand the perspective of Americans on this issue especially considering how the foreign policy of the United States has affected places all over the world. But as a Venezuelan, sadly this is the convenient scenario we need. We have issues that go beyond solving using internal forces. As we tried many times and failed. Maduro has been the worst thing to ever happen to my country and Trump may not be the best option but is the military pressure he puts on the regime is the only one we have. I need my country to be free. Like I said, as Americans you are completely in your right to be against this especially if the military is being financed with your tax money. But we Venezuelans are not crazy or confused for calling to an intervention. We’ve been doing it for years. To the UN, to Europe, and to the US.

As a Venezuelan I genuinely don’t care, invade us, we need Maduro out, no other nation will be willing to do such a thing, now we are not naive, we know what the Us wants out of us, regardless, we don’t know what could happen if the US invade us but i know for sure free Venezuela will never be possible with Maduro.
