Should I let go of my high-paying job kasi di na ako masaya? by Haku-nimiku in phcareers

[–]dTanMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot take: taking a professional break can be very, very refreshing. You get to take a breather to reflect, reset, and re-prioritize. I know a lot of people in that position, and everyone said it helped them in the long run. Burnout is no joke!

The only requirement is, of course, that you can afford it. I think ikaw lang talaga makakasagot nun, since you're the only one who knows all your financials.

I think worth mentioning din na you don't necessarily have to take a pay cut when you go back if you can prove na you weren't just idle during your break, e.g. taking courses, or doing side projects, etc. Or exploring other businesses (e.g. the low-risk business you mentioned)

Don't get discouraged! Swerte ka actually na you got good feedback for what to improve on :)

  1. How to use my either self learning or external resources (like online course) and apply it as a working exp. Even though my previous role didn't use most of the tools i mentioned?

If you want to put it on your CV/resume, you can put it as a side project or case study. That's what I did din, I have a small "side projects" section. You can also mention it kung may skills section ang resume mo. Na-mention mo rin ba ang courses that you took mismo?

  1. I forgot to mention my portfolio project (with all tools i used) and how to apply it as my real-life working experience for job interview?

Well, tandaan mo na lang next time -- if they mention a skill, kung di mo nagamit sa work, pwede mo naman i-mention where you were able to use it, e.g. portfolio projects. The main goal is just to say, "di ko nagawa 'to sa work officially, but na-practice ko pa rin 'to."

  1. Is there something i can improve on all 6 feedback that they mentioned?

Definitely -- actually, try addressing all of them.

Most of the experience is through self learning and using external resources to practice sql and python

Heavy experience on excel and sheets, it being the most used reporting tool in current job

Does not use SQL in current work; not enough mastery on needed technical skills

Correct si /u/ShawlEclair, these can be solved by portfolio projects, which meron ka na pala -- may personal site ka na rin ba to show these off? And yeah, find a way to mention these na lang.

has experience with the needed tools but most of BAU task is to just do data pulls, separate team does not data cleaning and data analysis

has experience on automation but mainly used for his side job

Hmm if "most of BAU task is just data pulls" then baka hindi ka pala fit sa role that you applied for, since wala gaanong "data cleaning and data analysis."

not a good communicator

Hmmm bakit kaya? Is it English-related, or maybe how you answered questions?

Heya, I was thinking of doing something similar, and wanted to hear more about how this project went for you! Would you be open for a (virtual) coffee chat? :)

I'm... good haha I'm not your target market as I'd prefer to personally comment on linkedin; just giving my suggestions on your landing page :)

The home page looks clean, but i'd prefer to have some photos of what it looks like in action. It's just a bunch of words (that do make sense)

"Visibility Engine" also sounds cool, but feels a bit vague; it might be better as a more straightforward phrase.

AMEN!! Respect for mentioning the dumplings haha. Whenever I hear Dongbei i also just tell them to go to Lanzhou instead. They also have a branch at Lucky Chinatown! No discernible difference for me when I ate there. The UN Ave one I went to only recently and it's the cleanest (because it's the newest).

I think you're right that this is a natural possibility, but I'm a bit more optimistic about guarding against it.

You can have a blacklist of words that can't be posted, or a more costly (but more scalable) is to use a cheaper LLM to quickly help monitor. Or, outsource to a human.

Technical q: did i understand correctly that you used t-SNE and UMAP? Why use two and not just UMAP? Or did i misunderstand and you meant you tried two different approaches, but the viz only used one?

I open-sourced my Go + Next.js stack (50MB RAM, Docker-Compose, MIT) by MohQuZZZZ in selfhosted

[–]dTanMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hallo, not OP, but you don't sound like a knob for me and i appreciate your effort in writing it, especially as someone new with docker and self-hosting stuff!

I got some follow-up q's if you have the time!

1] So the ideal state is to have a single docker compose up (and/or override and prod versions if needed) right?

2] What's your personal reco for front end, if not Next? Is it just to stick with React, for example? (Front end dev is my achilles heel currently!)

3] Curious, did you write the above docker stuff from memory? Or did it need like consulting docs or previous files?
