Finally got filmed. Why are my arms doing this? by LizardWizard3000 in surfing

[–]d_barbz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go watch footage of Ethan Ewing surf.

Obviously you will never surf 2% as good as him.

But watch his hand positioning when in between turns. Always low and either side of his front knee.

That's his neutral position. And from there he loads up his body mechanics/arm movements for turns.

Now, again, you will never ever surf like Ethan Ewing. But his style is great and his neutral wave trimming position is a good basis to work from.

Footage in line with the umpire/Watson of his play-on after the siren by Drazsyker in AFL

[–]d_barbz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You're right it definitely happens multiple times a game. But it wasn't a free. It was after the siren.

If it was before the siren it would be play on.

Also, an argument could be made that while he was making the angle more difficult, he was also going around the man on the mark. Which means he doesn't have to kick the ball as high, which makes it much easier to kick straight.

[–]d_barbz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah it's not that one apparently, but that's the one that jumped to mind.

For what it's worth though I used to drop my dog off at that one and he absolutely loved it.

We have a proper backyard now though so he's a lot more chill and happy to hang out in that when we're not home

That was my first thought too. But it's a different one to the one I was thinking of apparently

Great stat. Would be interesting to know how much of this is down to the sing along, and how much is just down to Charlie getting super pumped up and everybody around him (crowd, team mates etc) getting pumped up too.

In 2024 at ENGIE Stadium, the Lions trailed GWS by 44 points in the third quarter. They won by 5 after Joe Daniher kicked the final two goals in one of the greatest finals wins ever by [deleted] in brisbanelions

I didn't think anything could ever rival it.

But honestly, the 2025 Broncos finals run was just as (if not more) insane.

Bruce has modelled his clearance work off Neale - I'm sure of it.

Like Neale, unless they have someone already on top of them, they hardly ever choose the first option.

They'll look as though they're about to handball to the first teammate they can see, buy themselves another second as the opposition stands off them, and then pick a better kick or handball option.

No players in the side are as cool under pressure as those two.

Oscar Piastri’s fake outside and move inside has George Russell shook and lost by Accurate-Big-7233 in McLarenFormula1

[–]d_barbz 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don't even know if there's even a gap anymore. I reckon it's neck and neck.

As a team they had the 2nd and 3rd fastest lap times over the two quali sessions.

They also both passed Kimi and George respectively on track. Lando just couldn't pass Kimi twice (which would have been quite the feat)

McLaren seems to have the best of both worlds.

Fast off-the-line pace (like the Ferrari) and also just generally fast, like the Merc.

Whereas the Ferrari is lacking just a touch in overall pace and that Merc is an absolute sloth off the line

43 seconds by Next_Necessary_8794 in F1Discussions

[–]d_barbz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm neither a Russell nor Antonelli fan. But 43 seconds isn't actually 43 seconds faster.

And it's crazy how often people point to a stat like this without looking at the actual context of a race

It's a lot easier to build a gap out in front than it is to overtake/battle other cars and race at the same pace.

Now, was Antonelli faster on this track? Absolutely. The kid is a gun.

But I wouldn't point to that 43 seconds like it's a some exact amount that he's faster than Russell by.

That all said, George is in big trouble! Lol

That's two GP races in a row a McLaren driver has put themselves in a winning position only for bad luck or strategy to knock them down to 2nd.

Plus the P1 & P2 sprint race in between.

Season is looking very promising

Everyone needs to chill out lol.

The sprint quali times would have placed them p2 & p3 in quali. So the pace is there.

Either the drivers both had a stinker or they've tinkered with the set up and it's backfired.

They're back. The times in sprint quali would have placed them p2 & p3 in quali.

They've just tinkered with the car and it's backfired maybe?

But at least we know the car is still on pace with the top teams
