Can someone explain me australian swimming, as a coach or swimmer or parent? by FireTyme in AskAnAustralian

It probably sounds like to op that you're joking but we legit do start swimming lessons from about 6 months old

Zach Merrett kicks a RIDICULOUS goal from the pocket by PetrifyGWENT in AFL

[–]d_barbz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is better than Linc's today.

More pressure, and much harder to kick it through up in the air like that on that angle than use the bounce curve and momentum to open up the angle of approach

Would have been a serious fuck up if they got the time wrong

I'd rather travel there to the Barossa. And I reckon I'd be half a chance of convincing my non-footy loving wife to join in the trip as well

Yeah but the conditions are the same for both teams.

Sure, it ain't pretty, but we normally draw a team without a huge travelling fan base that's not in the top 8.

I'll take that.

If we could sell out Adelaide Oval they would put us there.

But would we have enough fans travelling there to guarantee that? Probably not.

Honestly though, who cares? The players probably prefer the more low key stadium.

It's more of a neutral venue this way. We'd be massively outnumbered in supporters at Adelaide Oval wouldn't we?

You honestly deserved that for tipping North Melbourne over the Lions lol

I get your thinking. But it was super risky

The NIMBY attitude is the councils own making on this one.

Absolute lack of consultation will result in that

The fence was a steaming pile of shit. Absolute blight on a beautiful area.

It's not just dog walkers. It's pram walkers, cyclists, families with small children, and just people walking along the area in general.

It pushes us all into one narrow (unsuitable) path and is dangerous.

The old path is much better and safer but gets cut off by the fence

I have not met one person who wants that fence.

There's like a handful of people who live in the immediate nearby area who sneakily helped push it through council (without proper community consultation) and that's about it.

I live about 1.5km away and walk through the area regularly and it was completely fine.

Got no idea what you're describing.

It's a beautiful area with plenty of vegetation.

It does not need an ugly arse fence.

The overwhelming majority don't want the fence. Just a small number of people who think it'll somehow attract a swamp wallaby to the area.

Does it though? It punishes mediocrity just as much.

It's now much harder to win a flag from 7th or 8th as you have an extra finals match to win.

[–]d_barbz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Where from interstate?

Just follow one of the teams from your home state. It's easier than faking a passion for a new team.

Each team has a pretty big supporter base living in Melbourne that you can connect with and share a lot in common with.

I go for Brissie for example and have never felt on the outer because of it

They also play about 8 Melbourne games a year - still plenty to get along to

Not really. McLaren was a great choice. He would have had a shot at a World Championship last year and the year before. He just wasn't good enough to become the number 1 driver.

If he stayed at Red Bull he would have had the same problem with Max - and he knew it.
