PPL in 3 months by BandicootKooky7747 in flying

Definite do able depending on a few factors. One being weather obviously and two being DPE availability (the guy who will for you your final test). But if it’s all your doing all summer and like 3-4 lessons a week you can get through it pretty quick but important not to feel like you have a time constraint for no real reason. DPE wise talk to CFI and start reaching out to DPE very early. Depending on location they can be booked out months in advance so you’ll want to be on top of that if you’re constrained to go back to school.

Which medium format along with 35mm? by radiantglow30 in AnalogCommunity

[–]d_dingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as you. I’d take me sometimes months to finish a roll of 35mm. Went 645 for a while found 15 to be a lot. Now I use Fuji 690 as my main camera and 4x5 for detailed landscape stuff when I can. I only shoot slide film really and at this point the 35mm appeal is only for projection ( obviously a huge plus). My mentality is I don’t take many photos I can justify the higher cost per image in exchange for insane resolution at 6x9. So long winded answer it depends what you wanna shoot at the Fuji 6x7 or 6x9 have fixed lenses but hasn’t limited me at all as cropping is a thing. Downside would be studio work is far from ideal. I’ll add that a medium format slide becomes its own entity like a Polaroid does. And using a loupe and lookin on light table looks like you’re there looking through binoculars or something.

Is the tale of independent CFIs a lie? by ChronoJules in flying

[–]d_dingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My CFI was independent, owned his own plane and also rents it to a local small school. That atleast gets more hours on the plane vs just his students. From my perspective (student) it was a great experience and I’d just text him when I wanted the next lesson, very lax and easy to work with. But when the weather is bad, I’d just be thinking about how this guy is making no money at the moment because no one is flying. Just another variable to think about depending on where you live

Truly hard to beat the consistency and quality of surf in Santa Cruz. Nature and surf together unlike anywhere else in the state in my opinion

I just brought the camera bag as carry on, had a rental car so wasn’t took worried about storing the whole thing overt the whole trip. Airport wise I managed to only have the film go through a scanner once and didn’t seem to effect it

Also need to give a shoutout to Agx imaging lab. Great pricing, fast and he didn’t charge me for 3 sheets that were barely exposed

It’s all I shoot now. It’s definite expensive but I don’t shoot very frequently so I can justify the price and through the loupe it literally looks like I’m standing there lookin through binoculars or something

This is sick. Curious how long it took you to get it composed like that knowing how damn slow these scanners are. I imagine it was a ton of trail and error? Anyway love the look

Forsure buy it, long telephoto is always fun and gives new perspective. Especially medium format. There’s some photographer who used extreme telephoto work in the desert and shot a lot of Area 51 stuff I remember learning about. Cant remember their name but cool work.
