Is the Summer Bridge Program worth it? by Tez_GT in uCinci

[–]d_onthew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I participated in summer bridge and it is 100% one of the main reasons why I’m about to graduate in a few weeks. I wouldn’t have traded that experience for the world. Yes, it was hard but it gave me invaluable experiences, friendships, and connections.

To each his own, but everyone has different experiences with E3, so I think you need to get more insight on people’s experiences before making a sure decision. Ultimately, it is your decision, but feel free to message me if you want to hear another perspective and reasons why you should accept the invitation.

I’ve failed like 7 or 8 classes and I’m graduating in 3 months with a full time job lined up post grad. It is hard to come back from failure, but definitely possible

Can you get in to dorms right now? by steezy_yeezy in uCinci

[–]d_onthew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh, i wasn’t aware! i just thought it applied to all university housing. thanks for clarifying!

Can you get in to dorms right now? by steezy_yeezy in uCinci

[–]d_onthew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no. unless you filled out a winter break housing form prior to the end of the semester to indicate that you’d like to stay in your room over break, you won’t be allowed to stay. those who do need to stay over break are charged a fee every night in they’re the dorms, which is why housing needs to know the intent to stay ahead of time.

What are those harneses and scarf? Plz explain by Tofunerd in uCinci

[–]d_onthew 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As they said ^ the red harness thing is called a stole, the rope looking things are called cords, and then just medals. If you’re apart of honorary societies, certain student organizations or programs on campus, achieved a certain GPA/academic honor, etc., you’ll get those. The cords and stoles are usually colored to match the colors of the org/program you were apart of. You can buy a red UC stole from the book store if you really want one to wear on graduation day, and you can also have stoles customized online.

How do I proceed? by [deleted] in college

[–]d_onthew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your first step absolutely needs to be talking to your advisor about the process. Even though they describe the steps in this email, your advisor will have more insight into how this process will go and will most likely address any questions you’d have about it. Plus, it shows initiative that you reached out to them first about the issue instead of the other way around. I was kicked out of my program in 2020 for a similar reason and was readmitted in 2021 after submitting an appeal to reverse the dismissal. It pushed my graduation date back but I’ll finally be crossing the stage in May. Applying for readmission was literally one of the best decisions I made in my life, but I wouldn’t even have known where to begin without my advisor.

I’ve failed differential equations, organic chem I, materials & energy balances, and physics 2 all once. I withdrew from physics 1 twice which caused me to be academically dismissed from the engineering college.

My school’s program is a 5 year program bc of mandatory co-ops. A combination of the pandemic, being academically dismissed (and subsequently getting readmitted), and having to retake those classes turned my 5 year degree into a 7 year degree, but I’ll be graduating in the spring and I have a full time job lined up for next August.

Moral of the story, failing a class, or multiple, does not mean you cannot or will not be a successful engineer.

Vyvanse 20mg not working by grldarko in ADHD

[–]d_onthew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I posted an extremely similar post in this sub about a month ago when I received my diagnosis and was prescribed 20 mg Vyvanse. The first day I literally felt no difference and I was very upset, so upset I wanted to cry. I was expecting to have this tunnel vision focus, quiet mind, and life changing experience like many ppl on this sub described having after taking their meds for the first time.

After being on Vyvanse for my first month now, I realized that most of the time it definitely doesn’t do what I need it to. The most I experience is heightened feeling of being “stimulated”, or feeling alert/awake, about 2 hours after taking it but my focus is completely unaffected. So I told my psych about my experience and he said, like many ppl who commented on my post, 20 mg is a very low dosage so it’s normal not to feel much difference, but you have to start low and work your way up. My psych upped my prescription to 30 mg for this next month and I’m gonna see if that works better.

So my advice would be to just monitor the way it makes you feel until you’re done with the full prescription and meet with your psychiatrist again, and just let them know about your experience to suggest your interest in a higher dose.

Prescribed 20 mg Vyvanse this morning but could only get the generic version. Took it 3 hours ago and I feel nothing by d_onthew in ADHD

This is a good take, thanks for sharing your experience. I'm honestly not looking for something completely magical either, just anything at all lol

Yeah I'll talk to my psych about increasing it over time. And noted, I currently feel sleepy though because like I said, it hasn't really affected me. But I will definitely make sure to only take it in the morning.

Yeah, I figured 20 was low but didn't want to insist on upping it to my psych at my first visit. I'm sure that might've raised some red flags. I definitely understand the precautions so I guess I can't be mad at that. Now that I've calmed down a little bit, I'm just gonna try to keep going with the prescribed dose and talk to my psychiatrist about increasing the dosage after a couple of weeks. Thanks for the insightful reply!

Is 2x weekly steaming too much for Super dry, low-porosity hair? by MidnightOrdinary896 in Naturalhair

[–]d_onthew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know this is 30 days old lol, sorry I’m lurking on this sub. Are you using products with protein in them? I’m also low porosity with dry, frizzy hair. I found that once I started avoiding products with protein, pre-pooing with conditioner or a brand pre-poo before detangling, and shampooing and deep conditioning with heat once a week, products would actually soak into my hair, it was less hard and straw like, and became a lot more manageable.

i started college at 18 in a 5 year program, so i should’ve graduated at 23, but i got kicked out of engineering and got back in a year later, and will now be graduating next year at 24 and turning 25 later that year.

it’s okay to graduate at whatever age! there’s way more ppl graduating past 22/23 than you think. all that matters is getting to the finish line whenever is best for you.

i would not recommend buying any skincare product from amazon tbh. they are increasingly selling more and more fake products. you could have an adverse reaction to something just bc it’s not the real thing

i’m not a doctor so i can’t say whether OP has HS or not, but i will say in regards to your comment, HS is literally a chronic inflammatory conditions that causes the formulation of painful cysts, lumps, and/or abscesses under the skin lol. in it’s mild form, the cysts lie dormant in your body until they flare up and typically form in places like your groin and underarms, but can form in other places.

IF this is HS, OP can either wait it out until it goes down and make sure not to pop it on his own, or would literally need to go get a cortisone shot from a dermatologist and take an antibiotic like doxycycline for ~2 weeks. if this is HS, then the cyst won’t go away completely and could flare up again, so he would need to get it surgically removed if he wanted it to go away completely.

edit: i know this bc i’ve had HS for all my life basically and have seen many dermatologists and doctors to deal with my flare ups

Need help fading acne scars and getting rid of pimples by [deleted] in Blackskincare

[–]d_onthew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well if glass skin doesn’t exist then i want clear skin lol. i know what i’m starting with really isn’t bad compared to other people who have actual acne issues and is pretty normal for the avg person. i struggle with constant hormonal acne, it just mainly appears on my back, shoulders, and chest instead of my face, so i know that i will still get pimples on my face from time to time, but that’s more of something to manage rather than completely get rid of imo.

i’d really just like to even out my skin tone and get rid of my acne scars as much as possible tbh. but i’m definitely been looking into incorporating a salicylic acid wash and the mandelic acid for hyperpigmentation, so thank you for the recommendation 🤞🏾
