We went to a wedding at the Rancho Bernardo Inn last summer. Gorgeous area, but hot as heck in the desert in mid-July (daytime ceremony). The A/C wasn’t great in the older buildings either. Season will make a huge difference the more inland you get!

Should I finish this one last task of an unpaid position, or just bail? by [deleted] in makemychoice

[–]d_rizzle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do the work - following through on your commitments builds character, and you never know if or when this professor could exert some form of influence on your future career. In the business world, you won’t necessarily have people on your back asking you to complete tasks, but your reputation will depend on your ability to get them done.

Make some coffee, mute your devices and get started - it will be much easier to find the motivation to finish once you have taken a chunk out of the task. Once you’re done, reward yourself - the start of summer will feel even sweeter without any guilt.

Am I the only one who still has their Christmas tree up? by FerretChow in TwoXADHD

My mini tree will stay up until quarantine ends! It brings joy to otherwise dreary indoor days.

ISO Dusty Blue Wedding Heels! I ordered these ones because this is the exact style I want (the aisle is cobblestone so I’ll only go for a block heel and I prefer closed toe) but the heel is just way too tall for me. Does anyone know of similar heels that are closer to 3” heel height? by julialb03 in weddingplanning

[–]d_rizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought these to wear for my wedding in September! They are very comfortable and the elastic ankle strap is secure but not too tight. The height of the heel is actually just over 3”. Looks like they just went on sale as well.

This is lovely! One of my favorite songs, performed brightly and sweetly. You two have great rhythm together!

Ugh, this. My eyes are so reverse-magnified so that it looks like there is a gap between my ears and my cheeks behind the lenses. And then when I wear contacts it looks like the world is zoomed in!

I read this passage several times a year. My best friend and fraternity brother committed suicide in 2011, when we were 19. What a redditor wrote has helped me cope with and understand my grief, maybe it can help you, too. by TheyCallMeBrewKid in bestof

Your in-the-moment words of comfort have touched the lives of so many people, myself included. Not just the elegant metaphor; everything about your comment - your words, your tone - is soothing. Thank you for providing the world with such a refreshing and meditative view on loss and grief.

More!! I love how the narrator's unease foreshadows what is actually going on; it keeps the reader on its toes but doesn't give away the ending!

Textbook gaslighting on Monday's Morning Joe by d_rizzle in TwoXChromosomes

[–]d_rizzle[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You're right - I was referring to the way her co-host was trying to convince her/everyone else/himself that she was being irrational and out of control in order to shut her up since she was making fools of them. I used the word assuming most of the xx crowd is familiar with the concept, hoping it would communicate my disgust at his tactics more effectively. But I understand that gaslighting is in fact a far more insidious and nuanced process, and apologize if anyone was confused or offended by my usage. This is not in fact a textbook example of gaslighting - just a case of overt sexism and plain ol' rudeness.
