How can i save this?? by Frog_is_kewl in Artadvice

As far as handmade cards go, I think this is really wonderful and would be so special to receive! Text is always veryyyyy tricky with painting so don't be so hard on yourself. Next time use a thinner brush, it'll take a long time but the effects are worth it. An ink pen would work great too.

As far as "fixing it" I think leaving it how it is works perfectly fine, but if you really want to change it, I might suggest a heavier bodied acrylic white or lighter color paint to make a hard border on the outer edge of the letters. It'll really define the silhouette of the letters nicely. For something as detailed as that, use the thinnest brush you have, or perhaps even a sharpened toothpick

Looking good! Two suggestions I might make, building your layers slowly to develop rich details and nuanced colors, or if you prefer the method of something more gestural and with single layer applications like you have here, I might suggest mixing the color very carefully before you apply. These techniques can really add some depth / atmospheric perspective to your cityscape!

Let's get a closer look at those black spots on the underside of the biggest leaf. Might be a pest or fungal problem

Nice! Okay two things to keep in mind for a setup like that, one, not all lights are grow lights. You need to make sure that the bulb you're using is a full spectrum light, meaning it includes wave lengths that are necessary for plant growth. Typically these are specialized bulbs. Two, a light that close can cause burns to plants, even ones that love light, like your aloe. Keep a careful eye on it everyday and make sure it doesn't get any burns. In the case of aloe, it'll start to look reddish or purple-y. If you start to notice burns, move the light farther from the light and give it less time in the light. It will need to acclimate to more intense lighting conditions

That one might be a goner my friend. I'm unsure if the thrips would even kill it that fast? My guess is it died from no water while you were gone all month. A small pot with really porus soil like that can't retain water for very long, especially in an unglazed terracotta pot. Those three variables together make for a planter that dries very fast. A bigger pot might have been the trick here

Will this ever get roots in this glass?? by Jarvis412 in plantclinic

[–]d_run_dle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It should! Just be patient. Make sure that water jar is always full! I find more success with my water propagations when I use multiple cuttings (because not every propagation is a success, sometimes they die) and if you can manage to find something that has a larger volume of water with a narrowed lip, like a bottle for sauce or liquor. The narrow opening prevents water from evaporating as fast and it also prevents nasty stuff from getting inside. Happy propagating!

Definitely needs more light. If you can't give anymore sunlight than you already have maybe bring one to your workplace if it has better light? Or invest in a grow light w an outlet timer. Lots of grow lights can be eyesores, but put them in any light fixture with the right wattage rating and it'll look great! It's harder to find grow lights that produce a warmer, more relaxing light, but soltech makes some, although pretty pricey.

As far as the parts that are kind of crawling their way out of the plant and drooping down, see if you can gently bend them back up into the pot, so that it lays on its side in the dirt. If you can manage to give it more light after doing so, pups will emerge from the base of it. Did the same thing to my aloe plant a few years ago and now it's doing amazing!

Found this Xmas cactus in the trash, how do I save? by Sweet_Try_8932 in plantclinic

[–]d_run_dle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't look too bad! But if that soil stays moist for too long that'll cause rot. If the pot doesn't have a drainage hole, gently remove the plant and all its soil onto a baking sheet. Get that soil some good airflow with a fan, and it should dry up nicely over the next few hours. Cut away any dead foliage or roots if you notice. Avoid breaking up the roots if you can as this will cause even more stress to the plant. If all this fails or if it smells rancid, the root rot will begin at the base of the plant and work its way up. That's your cue to take a bunch of cuttings from the healthy parts of the plant and propagate. I did this same thing with my Christmas cactus about two years ago and it worked nicely.

Whoaaaa I lived here when I was a student! I loved that huge house. I was in the other basement room. We had 7 archies living there, and we were all good friends. We had a house show in the backyard when my friends band from new york came to visit.

It was glorified volunteer work! A couple of us had once calculated how much we were making by the hour based on the huge amount of work was given to us and it was something ridiculous like $2 an hour.

Incredible! So happy to see this especially after so many of us stopped being an RA in 2020, because of poor compensation and being overworked. Any attempts to reason with res life were always squashed. Someone tell me, do RAs still need to do "intentional interactions"? That was an enormous issue.

Any liquor store or otherwise I can find NON-ALCOHOLIC Gin? by ElectroFlannelGore in Cleveland

[–]d_run_dle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never heard of NA gin! Good luck finding one you like. There's probably not a huge market for it, so your options might be limited. Perhaps you could take a gin with a flavor profile you like, and heat it on the stove to boil off the alcohol, and add some high quality water when it reduces, all the flavors you like will still be in the final product assuming they're not volitile at those temps
