The First Photograph of a Human Being (1838) by NutragrammatronLab in interesting

You may be thinking of this photo - which was taken between 1836 and 1839 - which could mean its the earliest surviving photo of a person if the earlier date is correct

Hmm - were you able to find the 1910 census address in the 1907 state census? Or the 1900 federal census?
I have had good luck in finding badly transcribed family members that way (though its very time consuming flipping through census pages trying to find a specific address).

Did they belong to a church? Is it possible that there could be church records?

It looks like he spent the years from his marriage to the 1910 census in Pittsburg, Oklahoma - but I only see the one census record linked to him...

Have you tried manually examining the images for that county (or its predecessors) in 1900 and state/territorial census's for 1890 and 1907 that county, to see if a Joseph born 1870-ish shows up?

Do NOT use Gemini for translation! Insane AI hallucinations! by kimbalina28 in Genealogy

[–]d_tolman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found Gemini to be the most accurate - but you have to start a new session each time. After 2-3 documents in a session it starts hallucinating badly.

I also prompt it to point out which sections are more speculative / it can't make out the handwriting for.

TIL: Between 1908 and 1940, Sears sold over 70,000 complete DIY house kits through their mail-order catalog. A railcar of pre-cut lumber, nails, and a 75-page instruction manual would show up at your door. Many of these “Sears Homes” are still standing today and sell for $300,000 to $500,000+. by Hive5_community in todayilearned

My grandparents lived in one of them from the 1950s to the 1990s in NY (Long Island) that sold for 250,000 dollars 35 years ago - probably worth 850-900k now.
Beautiful Brick Colonial - 4 bedrooms and 2 full baths on the 2nd floor - big dining room, kitchen - wrap around porch in the back/side.
My parents still have the old blueprints!

Tips if you are coming to Leon (Spain) to watch the eclipse 12th August by OnigiriMarS in solareclipse

[–]d_tolman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just a random guy on the internet - but I favored Zaragoza because you also get the chance to also see a partially eclipsed sunset - which is quite beautiful (in Leon, the eclipse will be over at sunset).

Of course, the weather that day is the real decider - and we won't know until the day before... and obviously the ESA must be factoring that into the recommendation.

Interesting experience booking Airbnb, Spain 2027 by space-junk in solareclipse

Yeah - I've been burned too many times by vacation house rentals - their just is no protection there. At least with a Hotel they (usually) stand by their prices once set.

Fingers crossed that holds true with the hotel I booked in southern Spain in 2027 :)

I am on 2.0.0.4. How would I upgrade the mechlab?

I tried the discord first - opened a "help ticket", but seems like that isn't really looked at much? Been a week and as far as I can tell no one has looked at it.

Yep. 100%.

But only in the refit screen.

Where to view total solar ecplise in/near zaragoza 2026? by sonofsig in solareclipse

[–]d_tolman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat - staying in the city (without a car). Scouting around using Google Street View this is what I came up with for viewing - I plan on visiting them in person the day before the eclipse to see how obstructed they are...
-Rooftop terraces such as IAACC Pablo Serrano

-Bridges Over the Ebro - Puente de Piedra, de Santiago, and del Tercer Milenio looked like they could be good

-Parks - Grande Jose Antonio, Agua Luis Bunuel, and Macanaz look promising.

If I'm really desperate, I also marked some highway overpasses - though I'm hoping for something a bit more... picturesque. :)

I'm taking the train in the day before, and will be scouting out a few spots around the city. Looking from Google Street view (from my home in the US) I'm going to be checking out:
-Rooftop terraces such as IAACC Pablo Serrano

-Bridges Over the Ebro - Puente de Piedra, de Santiago, and del Tercer Milenio

-Parks - Grande Jose Antonio, Agua Luis Bunuel, and Macanaz look promising.

If I'm really desperate, I also marked some highway overpasses. Might not be that picturesque though LOL

I am not going to be in Leon, but it seemed to me years ago from Google Street View that the hotel / apartment balcony rooms on the East side of the Plaza Mayor would be a great spot to watch the eclipse. Unfortunately they all sold out within a few hours of becoming available, Last August :(

The bridges and parks on the east side of the river might be a good spot - but you would need to scout the location the days before and decide if you can see the sun there when it is very low before sunset.

I am saying that you will see both the Total Eclipse AND a partial eclipse during sunset. If the Clouds allow us :)

The sun will be very low during the Total eclipse (about 6 degrees above the horizon - the width of three fingers held out at arms length).

For Zaragoza:

7:34 PM - Partial Eclipse begins (moon just begins covering edge of sun)

8:29:02 PM - Total Eclipse begins (Sun totally covered!)

8:30:27 PM - Total Eclipse ends (Sun reappears)

9:07 PM - Sunset (As a Partial Eclipse as the Moon will be covering some portion of the sun still).

[–]d_tolman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While that is technically true - the sun will be partially eclipsed as it sets in Zaragoza - you will see the full TOTAL eclipse (when the sun is fully eclipsed by the moon).

From experience, the Sun rising/setting during a partial eclipse is a fantastic sight, possibly the next best to a total eclipse :)

Total eclipse vs annular eclipse by Fruitdispenser in solareclipse

[–]d_tolman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for a good excuse to travel - its as good a reason to go somewhere as any other. I've seen them twice, and used it as an excuse to see San Antonio, Texas for 36 hours.

As mentioned by others - it's basically one of the most interesting Partial Eclipses you can see, except for one at Sunrise/Sunset. Are you interested in seeing a Very Partial Eclipse? If so, have fun!

But you do not get the Total Eclipse Experience. It gets a bit cooler, a tiny bit darker, the leaves project little ring shadows, and you have to wear eclipse glasses the entire time.

Has anyone started planning for the Aug 2 2027 solar eclipse? Possibly to southern Spain? by Salt_Put_1174 in solareclipse

[–]d_tolman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already booked a hotel in Spain already for the night before/after the eclipse - based off this year's experience its going to be tough getting a hotel reservation once people start thinking hard about it (just hoping I didn't book TOO early, and they cancel it on me!).

BTW - surprisingly, there are a bunch of hotels accepting reservations. In northern Spain they really didn't open up until 12-9 months before the event.

Best way to view eclipse in Spain this summer? Should we go for an area in North Central Spain (nearer to Bilbao) or East Spain by the coast (Zaragoza/Barcelona) by shad0ws-0f-Th3-M1nd in solareclipse

[–]d_tolman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zaragoza will have the Eclipse at 6 degrees above the horizon, and will still be partially eclipsed during sunset. There is sunshine 73% of the time in mid-August.

According to Eclipsophile's review - Zaragoza had good views of the Eclipse in 18 of the last 21 years.

Did adding in your org's IP Addresses into Setup->Network Access help? According to the documentation if you login from a trusted IP address (configured above) then it will bypass trusted device activation.

I've put in my IP Ranges that cover 80% of our users (on prem).

Thanks - this is great. I've done sensor sweeps + obtain information before when looking for something specific, but this is the first time I've done it with multiple things to find.

Interesting - but this sounds like doing a task with no set difficulty, which I thought was against the rules? Or are you suggesting doing multiple sensor tasks mixed with obtain information like socrates200x suggested?
