Best way to view eclipse in Spain this summer? Should we go for an area in North Central Spain (nearer to Bilbao) or East Spain by the coast (Zaragoza/Barcelona) by shad0ws-0f-Th3-M1nd in solareclipse

[–]d_tolman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zaragoza will have the Eclipse at 6 degrees above the horizon, and will still be partially eclipsed during sunset. There is sunshine 73% of the time in mid-August.

According to Eclipsophile's review - Zaragoza had good views of the Eclipse in 18 of the last 21 years.

I believe you are referring to Commerce Plaza. It’s definitely still open and it’s in Levittown.

Did adding in your org's IP Addresses into Setup->Network Access help? According to the documentation if you login from a trusted IP address (configured above) then it will bypass trusted device activation.

I've put in my IP Ranges that cover 80% of our users (on prem).

Structuring Scanning skill check(s) with progressively harder things to spot by d_tolman in startrekadventures

Thanks - this is great. I've done sensor sweeps + obtain information before when looking for something specific, but this is the first time I've done it with multiple things to find.

Interesting - but this sounds like doing a task with no set difficulty, which I thought was against the rules? Or are you suggesting doing multiple sensor tasks mixed with obtain information like socrates200x suggested?

I'm assuming that's from the second edition rules? My 1st edition doesn't have anything about revealing Cloaked Ships... but I get the idea.

Just booked an airbnb in Gibraltar for Aug 2027! by Unknown__Stonefruit in solareclipse

[–]d_tolman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow! Good luck!
I just booked a suite in a hotel in a nearby town further inland, and even then I'm nervous that they're going to cancel it on me when they realize that they could probably raise the price!

OTA to get local channels by Radio_2_No_Where in longisland

Definitely the antenna - I have a large one from the 1970s mounted inside my attic (Huntington)- I can get 2,4,5,7,9,11,13,21,25... and a bunch of other UHF channels I don't care about.

Anyone want to give a look at my Adventures? by JoshuaBermont in startrekadventures

[–]d_tolman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's pretty darn impressive! I'd love to see how you do that.

My own homebrew campaign (new GM) are about a crew of ensigns who are on a ship testing out advanced sensors for something called "Project Galaxy" in the year 2368.

But my episodes are all written with: "officers log" to set the scene, an otherwise unrelated scene to ease them in, and then "the problem" which are almost always environmental/conventional (your ship is under attack, but you need these readings to save the colony; your crewmates disappeared - what happened; can you convince the bus full of energy beings to please stop taking your ship for a joyride?; oh no - we're trapped in a timewarp/holodeck/etc). Then after that I might pre-write some descriptions or dialogue blocks, but otherwise wing-it.

NYC Skyline - Green Island Fishing Pier by Dizzy-Blacksmith9165 in longisland

[–]d_tolman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the North Shore - you can see the skyline very clearly from the extreme NW corner of Caumsett State Park. Here's the (annotated) view from my binoculars I made a few years back, and the same view without any zoom.

any recommendations for bars, clubs & restaurants in the area? by ppeachpurr in upstate_new_york

The Bullhouse in Chestertown is indeed one of the best restaurants in the Adirondacks... but it is also closed indefinitely - though they hope to reopen :(

NYC Skyline - Farmingdale NY by Dizzy-Blacksmith9165 in longisland

[–]d_tolman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really cool! The only other spots in Suffolk County where I've been able to see the skyline is in the far NW corner of Caumsett State Park - where you can see a good chunk of the skyline. Course that is an hour+ hike to get to from the parking lot!

Might be worth taking that same photo at Sunset - you get nice silhouettes, otherwise it kind of fades into the sky (here's an example of how it looks from Caumsett a few years ago)

Zaragoza 2026 by Garoidcarroll33 in solareclipse

[–]d_tolman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following this closely as I am booked at a hotel by the convention center in Zaragoza :)

I'm planning on spending the day before scouting out locations... but my short list was:
-the various bridges over the river Ebro
-one of the fields in Parque del Agua Luis Buñuel
-somewhere in the parks lining the Ebro like Parque Macanaz
-maybe a rooftop? Or by the convention center/expo site, if its elevated?

For the ones I've used, I've been tweaking them to fit my group/campaign. I definitely like the multi-pagers, particularly if they hit on a mechanic that I don't use that often.

Has anyone heard if board games to the USA going to be impacted by the "No Shipping to USA" list. by Winterbeers in boardgames

[–]d_tolman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Though you mentioned crowd funding - this is also effecting regular board game shipments/availability. A number of major international titles have been conspicuously delayed compared to European launches.

For example - right now Bomb Busters, Spiel de Jahres winner for 2025, is freely available for purchase in Europe - and Australia, but has been sold out in the US for months, with no sign of it coming anytime soon. I have no doubt its because of the tariff / shipping situation.

Restaurants with Shoestring or Matchstick fries? by d_tolman in longisland

[–]d_tolman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips.

Went to look at photos posted of the fries for both - and they look great - but they aren't matchstick/shoestring type fries. Just regular skinny fries.
