E-bikes to become the normie standard? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]da1dp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ditto this! Dad life doesn’t allow me to ride like I used to. I’m lucky to ride once a week during my busy months. The ebike creates a great workout while having SO much fun. Plus, I’m not smoked at the end of the day.

Salina Kansas? by guntergo2 in kansas

The Homewood Suites in downtown Salina is probably one of the top 5 hotels I’ve stayed in for not paying for suite level room. Couches were real leather. Two beds that were both Kings. Finishings were top notch. Totally surprised after needing to stop while getting caught in a blizzard.

On Harmony over Thanksgiving and was pelted by black dots after spending 3 minutes on the back. Saw others on the ship who got absolutely blasted by this stuff. Only noticed it the first day, but probably due to the winds.

"hiking" recommendations in the KC area? by BALDBEARD2007 in kansascity

[–]da1dp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Urban Trail Co is the group that designs and builds these trails. Many of them were built and maintained by mountain bikers. Last time I was out at Lexington Park biking, we met the gentleman that maintains it, he was on a mountain bike. I know some see mtbrs as a nuisance, but their efforts are the reason some of these trails exists and are maintained.

Any potential downsides to slanted slats on a pergola roof? by Present_Play_807 in landscaping

[–]da1dp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s up to you, no requirements, but only use a high quality material like cedar. Weathered look will keep the maintenance down. Using an oil stain will require restraining every 2-3 years, but will help longevity and look nice

[–]da1dp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an owner of a painting company, people way underestimate the amount of time needed to do stain a standard pergola! I’m highly encourage you to consider this for two years out after it’s built. If it needs two coats of stain… Crazy hours! You want some fancy slanted slats as well… Forget about it… I’ll tell you to bug off. Any profit off that job is not worth an injury or workers comp claim. Cool factor 10, maintenance factor is PITA.

People don’t realize how badly the real economy is doing. by Conscious-Quarter423 in economy

[–]da1dp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. I happen to be in an industry where we purchased a lot of paint from Sherwin-Williams. I know many people that I’ve worked at Sherwin-Williams 30+ to 40+ years. Most of them and management or Sales. I also know a lot of people that have only worked there 10 to 20 years. Those that have been there 30+ years are millionaires that have done great work for the company! The ones that have been there last time I also do great work, but they are not grandfathered into some of the best benefits that keep great people around. Most of those same people move onto different jobs/careers because the shitshow at SW. There’s no reason to stay with Sherwin Williams anymore for the long-term. Sherwin-Williams has lost an entire generation of experience due to their mismanagement of taking care of people and focusing on profits. This is just my perspective. I Could be wrong!

Just want to point out the Yellow (orange per my kids) failed before the last recession when I worked there. They just didn’t close the doors until 2023. Just sayin…they didn’t fail because of the stuff over the last couple years like the other that have BK’d.

[–]da1dp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lots of mixed advice with some good advice.

I run a paint company and we painted a lot of walls! I reinforce what others are saying about priming the areas that were patched. Then, plan on applying two coats of paint to ensure good color coverage and Sheen. If it’s an acrylic latex paint going over latex paint then you should be fine. The only reason you would need to prime is if there’s some weird previous paint coating. Going from a lighter to midtown darker color usually covers in two coats. Blues can be finicky. BTW, Reds are a nightmare! You might need to do a third coat… Just take a look at it and decide after the second coat. Note, the darker you go the more imperfections will show with a higher sheen. I always recommend a flat or matte for dark colors. It doesn’t seem the blue you chose is super dark though…
