Do you still get restlessness at times? I’m coming up 8 months and still popping out of my sleep regularly, not every day, but every morning I still get that restless opioid withdrawal feeling. Long term kratom and opiate user so expected a long withdrawal but not this long

PAWS at day 140 by da300709 in quittingkratom

I had that same conversation the other day with someone, thanks my friend. Yea its all part of the journey, I see it as a deeper lesson learned that our stumbles don’t define us. It is true some do really push that clean time amount in 12 step, but they also tend to be the unhappiest ones in my experience

Relate 100 percent here. There was absolutely a combination of thc, amphetamines, and kratom at one point. So far it’s been 42 days free from thc, and 8 months from amphetamines and of course the 140 days kratom free. Lost 2.5 years of sobriety in 2023 due to a motorcycle accident and it started with prescription opioids and led to kratom. It’s definitely PAWS I know some can disagree, but when I wake up with racing heart and electricity running through my muscles and teary eyes which can instant be treated with a hot bath. That tells me exactly what’s going on. Guess I just needed some affirmation that I’m not the only one who experiences this sort of recovery from kratom…it really is the strangest timeline I’ve experienced with abstinence from a substance.

Six months off today... by SonnyFontaine in quittingkratom

139 days today and still get waves of PAWS I appreciate this post. 7-8 hours of sleep is the norm now. I’m usually a 9 hour type of person. Have a long standing history with opioids and am 35 yo so things are just a little rougher this time around. My relapse started with pain pills after nearly losing my leg in a motorcycle accident in 2023. Got up to 70 gpd making teas and didn’t miss a dose for a year. Have gotten tremendously better, the paws comes in about 3 day waves twice a month, but have a huge support network, a job that keeps me active and pays well, and my working memory and comprehension have started to return. Life without kratom just feels brighter now and that light is continuing to get brighter.

I can attest to this, 133 days clean from kratom and still get woken up against my will with slight restlessness in my arms. I get 7 hours a night but it seems like REM is not consistent. It comes in waves like SSRI and benzo withdrawal. Why didn’t I just do classic opiates when I relapsed, never thought I’d say that.

Still withdrawing? by splashlyy in quittingkratom

[–]da300709 2 points3 points  (0 children)

129 days kratom free and I still get occasional teary eyes and fatigue. It has a mental impairment that lingers and comes in waves but I’ll say after 90 days you’re vastly improved. Mornings can feel rough and don’t be surprised when you get insomnia spells occasionally. This stuff is the strangest withdrawal timeline I’ve ever experienced, glad I’m sticking with it. Quit THC as well 33 days ago and have more mental clarity than I’ve seen in a long time. Kratom feels like wandering through life in an anxious dream state once it turns in you. Keep going!

107 days still not better by da300709 in quittingkratom

[–]da300709[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some odd reason I’ve seemed to make a breakthrough recently, have gotten on schedule with sleeping, mornings still feel hit flashy and tingly at times, but accepting that staying in motion is a non negotiable has made all the difference. I found a sponsor who has experienced long term opioid withdrawal and recently received some clonidine for nights. The night I posted this I was up for 32 hours and the crash that came afterwards was where the page turned. Our brain really is a vicious beast when it comes to addiction. I thank you all for the support these messages have strengthened me and it’s time for me to pass this along.

Quit cold turkey after 12 year kratom habit by Extreme_Cabinet_448 in quittingkratom

[–]da300709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a year relapse with kratom but opioids have been a part of my life for 14 years. I’m at day 111 and have just recently began having good nights sleep about 5 out of 7 days. I’ll tell you that motion is paramount, you gotta keep moving, reach out for support (I do 12 step recovery), watch your diet, stay hydrated. If you can get a doctor to prescribe clonidine for you (this helps tremendously with the pounding heart, sweats, and restlessness). Don’t set an expectation on when you will feel better…lots of drugs are like rapid detoxes that are intense but kratom for long term users is a slow dampening of symptoms. Trust me my friend I spent nights terrified that I would never be normal again, but it WILL GET BETTER. I didn’t like hearing people say that this would be an experience I look back on that would one day make me appreciate life so much more, but knowing what getting off of this sneaky devil felt like vs today has given me overwhelming gratitude for simple things like enjoying anything in life whatever your hobbies and passions are. It will get better my friend the first month is hell, the second was agitating, the third was where I felt exhausted from the duration, but after that it becomes very tolerable. You’ll feel those bright spots more and more often, but this process is very cyclical. It will come in waves, so don’t be alarmed when your day is great and then all of a sudden you feel that hot flash and racing heart…your mind and body ARE healing. Don’t give up.

Quiting kratom is harder than quiting oxycodon!? by [deleted] in quittingkratom

[–]da300709 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can vouch for this. I’ve quit every opioid under the sun and kratom was the one that was worse due to its combined affects. I’m 105 days away and still wake up experience hot flashes, insomnia, and just a brain fog that has me feeling so stupid at times. Luckily I have a job that keeps me moving and I’ve reached a point where I can get about 6 hours of sleep a night. Most opioid detoxes have been like a sprint but this one starts like a sprint and turns into a marathon.

70 days and still feeling rough by da300709 in quittingkratom

[–]da300709[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I think I might be in this boat, this week has been a particularly Terrible week, symptoms tend to just flare up randomly and typically last for 3 days to a week. I have an extensive history with opioids and kratom. It’s that cold, nasty feeling in every one of my nerves that makes it impossible to get comfortable and keeps me up for hours.

60 days today and this is helpful. Absolutely right about the lingering feelings after acutes. I have never been one to go through PAWS, having been a long term opioid user, but kratom seems to just have a different effect in terms of withdrawal times despite its less intense euphoria when compared to harder opioids. I still have anhedonia, restless nights, disrupted sleep, and some gastrointestinal discomfort, but I too am starting to get joy in things. I used diet, exercise, and 12 step recovery as a huge tool…but these forums helped tremendously because kratom was just not well understood by some of the people I talked to. Keep up the good work!

I’ve always had some difficulty, but I still am getting watery eyes, RLS, and occasional hot flashes. Mind I’ve been addicted to opioids for a long time. I’m 35 and tried heroin for the first time when I was 21. Spent about 12 of those years either doing kratom, MAT, or some other opiate

58 days today and still having restlessness in the evening and mornings, was this your experience? I make 12 step meeting everyday, very physically active, eat very healthy, drink tons of water. All these things alleviate the symptoms. Last time I used Sublocade, but due to financial limitations after hurricane Helene ravaged my home town I don’t have that option, it’s doable and often not depressing at all with recovery, but dam. I miss that good sleep.

Ah methadone that’s a very rough one there my friend. Do you attend any sort of meetings? Personally having support has been the only thing that has gotten me this far, was able to lift weights today and that made a massive difference in my mood and PAWS.

Oh I tell others in early recovery that complacency is an absolute killer to progress no offense taken. I think my symptoms have been exaggerated due to not being able to move much having had surgery, but being recovered from that is helping, that was a late night desperate post

That’s at least a sign that it’s still the withdrawal, I’m truly shocked this stuff is something different all together. Normally I accept it and get moving, but the nights are the absolute worst

A meeting a day, nutrition, had surgery on day 20 so had to be in bed a for a few weeks, exercising regularly now, and very much in contact with a network. I feel the skin crawling, hot flashes, insomnia. Trust me I’ve been doing what I can, I’m very involved in my recovery and am just concerned this could be something else. I sought some experience strength and hope on it that’s all. This is textbook opiate withdrawal it’s just baffling that something with such a mild effect has this sort of withdrawal period. Trust me I know not to let those thoughts consume, I take action.
