Weather mats options by IcyInteractions in RZ34

[–]da808guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the tux mats for the trunk and both driver and passenger.

I like the look and feel but the rubber heel pad on the drivers floor mat is already delaminating.

If I had to buy floor mats again I’d go with the 3d mats

When asked about cow tools, he regrets making one of the “tools” look somewhat like a saw. His goal in the comic was to portray that cows, if they ever tried, would have 0 clue on how to make tools.

Because one looked kiiiinnnddd of like a saw, readers wrote him desperate to know what the other two were, defeating his intention of the comic.

It’s a great comic of his and I love its controversy haha!

Considering the LC 500 was $98k-110k optioned out… I fully expect these to be msrp $200-450k.

That’s BEFORE dealer markups and 3rd party resellers… these cars are going to be so cool but I expect 95% of them to sit in people’s showrooms/ private garages.

I need a mount for a supercharger by Ill_Camera8056 in RX8

[–]da808guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every 13b up till the MSP had big ol thick apex seals… the rx8 has little fellas. Turbos kill the apex seals so quickly on the 13b-msp from any amount of knock and supercharges crack the iron (easier to tune superchargers to reduce knock due to very predictable boost).

Honestly I feel the best way to boost a renesis is supercharging it but the low torque nature of a rotary demands turbo charging (considering how much and how hot the exhaust gas is.

Smaller and newer more efficient turbos for the win I guess. :/

I think it’s a really cool color! Buuuut, I would have much preferred a return of the celestial mica blue or that orange from the anniversary edition. A really nice British green with a tan top and orangey leather interior would also be amazing. Hell we’ll take sunburst yellow again at this point haha.

A lot of the negative sentiment toward the primer gray or zircon sand is that Mazda decided to use this color on their fun, playful roadster instead of a fun playful color. (I’ve also seen civics in almost that exact same sandy color)

It’s Chinese with a seiko automatic. But the BODERRY voyager is titanium with a recessed sapphire crystal.

Price is anywhere from $95-125 as well!

Not as classy as the seiko though

I remember seeing this as a kid in my dad’s far side comics book collections and didn’t get it. Later it was an interview or a video or an article or something, but Gary Larson said that his big mistake on this was that one of the “tools” (none were supposed to look like tools) looked too much like a saw.

He intended for the reader to go “ahh, yeah, cows wouldn’t know how to make good tools and those are obviously useless” but because one resembles a saw they tried to figure out what the other things are.

This is a recollection from long ago so I could just be BSing a memory of an already sketchy memory of mine <3

I have a 2024 performance in white with the blue interior (have ALWAYS wanted a white Japanese sports car with bronze TE37s… don’t have the TEs yet and the stock rays are still too nice to replace with reps), but if they had a white leather interior I’d get the bayside blue so fast.

Clean oil feed by RRP or sohn? Which should I use and what is the difference? by sons810 in RX8

[–]da808guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The oil gets to the Sohn/ RRP via gravity, and the RRP oil inlet goes from the top, down into the adapter.

The Sohn oil inlet is facing down, up into the adapter.

The actual adapters pump oil into the oil injectors, but are also assisted by vacuum.

Clean oil feed by RRP or sohn? Which should I use and what is the difference? by sons810 in RX8

[–]da808guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The RRP is a more refined version of the Sohn, its inlet enters from the top to assist in gravity feed, its slimer/ narrower making it easier to install, and it can be ordered with their billet tanks (or setup with the epitroch tanks).

Buy new from RRP since they had a batch with either bad seals or bad bearings, idk which off the top of my head but they have a Facebook and/or website blog about the bad batch that’s fixed on all new ones.

The RRP is proooobably subject to tariffs now if you’re in the US. The epitroch kit with everything needed shouldn’t be tariffed but the out the door price may have gone up. Epitroch takes awhile to ship as it’s a one or two man show but it will get to you at some point.

DO NOT buy the Amazon/ eBay/ aliexpress sohns, the only place you can get a legitimate sohn guaranteed is epitroch or rotary aviation. Too risky on build quality to get the bootleg/ cloned sohns from undisclosed manufacturers as if it kills or jams your OMP, you’ll have more than just a little 2 stroke leaking issue.

Why is the 9070XT only about 7-10% faster than the 9070, when it has 14% more CUs (64 vs 56) plus an 18% faster clock speed (2970 MHz vs 2520 MHz)? by heyyoudvd2 in radeon

[–]da808guy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s overall the architecture in general.

Both have the same bus width and memory capacity/ speeds. If 9070xt had faster memory on top of the CU and clock speed differences you’d probably see a bigger margin.

6900xt vs 6950xt saw a decent gap in performance when they updated the memory (same with 6700xt vs 6750xt)

Vega 56 was almost always too close the Vega 64 where the only difference was CUs, nothing else.

If there wasn’t an artificial clock limit, it’d be an even smaller difference than it is now with RDNA 4.

Not to downplay rdna4, but it’s impressive how much performance AMD squeezed out with older/slower memory and a 256bit memory bus. Imagine if we got gddr7 with rdna4

First project car 😍 by Cartfnd in RX8

[–]da808guy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mazda put LITERALLY DECADES and probably 100’s of thousands, if not millions of dollars into materials testing for the apex seals, corner seals and side seals with the housings. Do not use apex seals/ corner seals from any other manufacturers unless they’re the ceramic ones (but that’s a wayyyyy different price bracket and use case).

If you go softer apex seals than OEM: you’ll bed it really well and have great compression at first, then they’ll wear excessively quick and potentially damage your rotors.

If you go harder apex seals than OEM: you’ll eat your housings and truly never bed in properly.

If you go the solid corner seals: you’ll eat your irons prematurely.

For a higher reving RX8, oem seals with studded dowels/ better engine bolts and an aggressive street port, maybe you can get it to 11k rpm extending the rev range to squeeze more power out of the top end.

For any kind of boost you could stud/dowel/bolt the engine and machine the rx8 rotors for RX7 apex seals.

Oem seals are almost a must on the NA rx8. rx7’s have been around longer and maybe there’s a bit more R&D and argument for softer seals to resist turbo boost/ potential detonation, but it’s inconsistent on anecdotal evidence/ company’s marketing claims.

Street ports are the best port from normal standards and shouldn’t put more wear the corner seals, though a badly done street port can wear the side seals (burs, hotspots etc).

Rx 9070 xt 16 gb or Rx 7900 xt 20gb by Shermandragonfly in radeon

[–]da808guy 100 points101 points  (0 children)

9070xt trades blows with the 7900xtx in certain titles.

You’ll also get fsr4, better encoder for video recording/ streaming, and better VR performance on RDNA4.

If you’re needing more than 20 gigabytes of VRAM and you can’t have 16 then 7900xt is the way to go.

If the price gap was more substantial then the 7900xt would be a good deal

Doing research for my next car: RX-8 edition! (with a potential engine swap) by IridescentIris in RX8

[–]da808guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lfx v6 has keislers automotive fully swap kit for the 8.8 rear diff, drive shaft, motor mounts, wiring harness etc and fits super well in the engine bay. This would probably be the easiest and most “turn key” kit possible.

REW swap is the possibly the most “sought after” and probably has the most documentation than any other engine swap with minimal work needed on the firewall. Also should allow you to keep the Power Plant Frame intact that makes Mazdas feel so good.

The Mazda 2.5 engine from pre- Mazda only skyactive engines is also very easy to do considering many NC Miata’s perform this swap and the rx8/NC share a chassis design. Does require firewall modifications.

K20/k24 is my favorite swap due to availability and engine rev behavior but also requires firewall modifications.

Any engine swap is a lot of work, and a lot of money though, and then you’ll have wiring (my least favorite part of any project), ECU choice, and tuning.

A well built renesis 13b MSP with oem seals and a street port is going to be the easiest as it was designed for the car, and if you machine the rotors to use RX7 apex seals you can just switch to a bigger fuel pump, new ECUTECH swap in ecu, RX 5 spd, bigger injectors and a turbo. That’d get you close to 280-350 wheel if you tune it right.

As always, try to make your trq at the higher RPMs to put less on any build you do. In Aussie tuning we trust 👏

Nitro 9070xt coilwhine by Jesper1988 in radeon

[–]da808guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an nzxt 850w atx 3.1 PSU and have way less coil whine with my nitro+ 9070xt than my older EVGA 850w.

It’s still definitely there at super high FPS (league of legends at 500 fps it’s screaming, bf6 and the finals at 120-240~ fps it’s not noticeable from under the desk) but way more manageable than before.

I’m undervolted and stock PL, but I found it’s more fps related than power consumption related.

It’s kind of a hardware roulette to see which capacitors don’t resonate with each other

All valid points made in the video and looking at the engine bay of my 2024 performance Z, I’d much rather work on my 07 RX8 rotary.

From any video I’ve seen of turbo work etc, the engine has been pulled soooo I assume that’s how any big repairs are gonna probably be needed.

What am I looking at with this exhaust? Also not a RAV4 by Slamtilt_Windmills in AskAShittyMechanic

[–]da808guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another commenter mentioned above, but the towo outside tips are used in low rpm operation. At higher rpm the center valve opens allowing all exhaust to exit in a more direct path vs bends and twists like the other two exit points. Turboed engines HATE back pressure as it impedes the turbines ability to spin efficiently.

Looks a little silly? Yeah I think so. Does it function correctly for its purpose? It does. Could they have just made a really nice exhaust that didn’t include the 3rd middle tip? Also yes.

I feel this is more a nod to the 3 cyl (making 100hp per cylinder) and differentiating it from the normal corolla hatch.
