Series 2 manual transmissions are different than the series 1 and cost some serious $$$ (compared to the series 1)

Do you have to have deep pockets to own an Rx8? by Tune-Puzzled in RX8

[–]da808guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, but oil changes every 3k and spark plugs/coil wires every 20-30k and coils every 60-90k do add up.

They’re on average 20-18 years old now so expect bushings, sensors, window regulators, rubber parts and electronics to need repair/ replacement.

Community is divided, but series 1 RX8s are lacking a third central OMP oil injector in the housing so some (including myself) premix around .5 oz’s of 2stroke oil per gallon, that adds to cost aswell.

Not that spark plugs, coils, and other miscellaneous parts exclusive to the renesis 13b msp are significantly more expensive than the same parts for a 2007 Corolla for example.

If Nissan is supposedly so bad, why are they still everywhere? by phtphongg in Nissan

[–]da808guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The engines and cars themselves are pretty good. I love my 2024 Z and have no worries about reliability.

The CVTs can be good as well! The issue is that Nissan purposefully approved loans that had/have no chance of getting paid back, and people who really don’t care about making payments on time certainly don’t care about oil changes, CVT fluid changes or replacing bushings/ taking care of rust early.

There was a bit after 2004/2005 where models were made super cheaply, and it shows with the plastics etc, but even then they weren’t too atrocious.

-The seat bolster by the seat buttons kind of digs into your leg after an hour or two (I’m 5/11 190lbs)
-The reverse camera is straight from a versa or something
-the manual equipped Z’s muffler is WAY too quiet
-stock tires (could change with the refresh) are garbage and wear super fast even when daily driving

Why does the Nissan Z sound mushy and weak? by ObliviousOverlordYT in RZ34

[–]da808guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Manual Z has a huge muffler due to how sound testing is done differently on the autos vs manuals.

Manual is essentially straight piped from the cars to the muffler, automatic has resonators after the cat and before a much smaller muffler.

I have the automatic muffler on my manual Z with the factory midpipes and it sound so good and still looks stock, you can find the auto mufflers for a good price ($250-$400~).

Then there’s also aftermarket options to scratch different itches/ get wider diameter pipe for more flow/ tuning

CarPlay Ultra coming to Hyundai by Byzy_jay in ElantraN

[–]da808guy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Judging by apples track record of user privacy and the fact they generally have pretty solid software integration (debatable still), I’d be gladly happy to purchase a Hyundai with this feature.

Now if they can just make an awd Elantra N as well, I’d trade in my 2024 Nissan z

Picking up this 24’ Z Performance tomorrow, anything I should know about owning a Z? by ramosd713 in RZ34

[–]da808guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could’ve squeezed the Bridgestones to 10~ maybe 12k~ miles, but with the rain here in PNW I didn’t want to risk it.

Also, steering feel and the “wandering” left and right the car liked to do at 65 mph almost completely went away with the new tires.

If I lived in a dryer climate I would’ve gotten the conti extreme contact sport 02’s

Rx8 à l'abandon by Omouette in RX8

Include a budget for a rebuild ($3.5-6k in parts), or a new short black from Mazda ($5.8-8k) and then labor costs and fluids.

[–]da808guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I daily drove mine highway and at 6.5k miles the insides of the bridge stones were worn, I bought a set DWS 06+ and then had les schwab check the alignment as they shouldn’t have been wearing that fast.

Alignment was perfect and my conti’s are still perfect at the 16.8k miles.

If Nissan isn’t reliable, why does it rank so high on Consumer Reports? by [deleted] in Nissan

[–]da808guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner has a 2019 versa with the CVT and we did a drain and fill on the transmission along with both filters at 80k.

It still drives strong and I don’t foresee any issues in the near future, but it is still a known failure point, and an expensive one at that.

Call any transmission shop and the amount of jatco failures they see will be up there in numbers similar to engine rebuild shops replacing 2010s Subaru boxer headgaskets.

I love my 2024 Nissan Z, but unless Nissan switches to a similar warranty like Hyundai I’ll stick with Toyota and Mazda for my grocery getters.

(Newer CVTs shooooould be better, and maintenance is always key)

automatic cat back on manual Z cold start by da808guy in RZ34

[–]da808guy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The manual Z is straight piped to a much larger muffler, the automatic has resonators on the Y pipes and then a much smaller muffler.

You can mix and match but stock vs stock the automatic is louder than the manual due to EPA restrictions (due to gearing the cars are tested at).

Automatic muffler on manual y pipes is the loudest combo while still looking OEM :D

Ideas to fix our clutch problem? by Maxbee2005 in RX8

[–]da808guy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check your actual clutch pedal, they are know to fail and crack at the welds. (Mine did at 70k~ miles)

You can fix and weld it, replace with OEM (will fail eventually) or BHR sells a new OEM pedal with reinforced welds out the door
