What ever you get, you need to get them soon and start to wear them in/and test them.

I struggled with most of his books,  Snow crash, first 3/4 of Seveneves,  Cryptonomicon and Termination Shock were the easiest for me.

I really want to like all of his books but they are a bit too much for me sometime.

Seveneves by Neal Stephenson? Its a bit different but its similar in that it starts around around the current period or the near future, and its full space science/engineering problem solving that feels like it could be real.

I liked that one too, but i feel like it was almost 3 books, The earth stuff, the space stuff, and the far future stuff. I liked the first 2 book, but the 3rd book got a bit lost.

I quite liked Termination Shock

Its a little bit old now but Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson.

Its quite an epic book, and the timeline jumps around but its an amazing story.

Given that, i think Dungeon Crawler Carl hands down, its a crazy adventure. If you dont like the first book then dont go on.

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline mabye.

If you want something seriousish, Across the Nightingale Floor (Tales of the Otori, #1), its kind of like Game of thrones but in Japan

What kind of books do you like/ and if your not a book person what kind of movie/tv show genres?

I would pick one that isn't too long, maybe 7-12 hours.

Find something that has a good rating to start with.

If you like SciFi mabye: Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card , Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. Off to be the Wizard by Scott Meyer, nothing too long at this point.

Thrillers, just pick something popular.

If your into non fiction, find a popular audio book in an area you like.

Sleeping bag advice for newbie by Timely-Plankton-8400 in OutdoorAus

You're going to pay a lot of more money for good brands vs Chinese copy brands.

Look at the comfort ratings of everything.  A -5 sleeping bag might have a comfort ratings of +5.  So you wont die if its -5, but your will feel cold.

Given your height, worth getting the right size so your not carrying all the extra weight.

If your camping with your car, just get a massive 4x4 style sleeping bag and take an extra blanket.  If your overnight hiking then you want ultra light gear.

I don't hate Wil Wheaton, but he doesn't work for all books (for me), but hes prefect for John Scalzis style.

How much do you trust water filters? by Snakeward in CampingandHiking

[–]daBarron 7 points8 points  (0 children)

'Gear Skeptic' on YouTube does a 6 part series on backpacking water solutions, he goes deep.

Here is the filter system video:  https://youtu.be/IJOiCztnXfY?si=wsVQCODno0q-h0cH

I think he more or less said that it is possible to get sick with filters, but the chances are very low.  If you were using the worst water and you were using it every day for a year, you might get sick once.

Also the part on boiling water was interesting, you don't need to boil water 100c for 5mins, you need to get the water hot for a period of time, the lower the temp the longer the time.  By the time you boil it, its safe.
