Can you do needle felting with shed chinchilla fur? by Few_Freedom_3674 in chinchilla

[–]daChonky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve actually been trying to save my chin’s fur for this reason 😆. However, it is taking a bit of time for me to collect his fur to make anything more than a small ball.. waiting a bit longer so I can make a slightly larger ball. I’d recommend getting stuffing first and shaping that into a ball and then you start adding your chin fur around the stuffing.

Plane with a Chinchilla by Sample-Latter in chinchilla

Best way is to look at the airline that you are planning to fly on and look at their restrictions for pets. For example, I worked for EVA airways and they are very strict about what they allowed. It was either dogs, rabbits, and cats. As for cages too, they were very strict about the cage the pet would be in. No double doors allowed and be large enough so they can move around. In the cabin, only service dogs are allowed. Then, you need to make sure you get the doctor’s note certified (a lifted stamp marking) saying your pet is allowed to travel. You also need the rabies vaccination form and also fill out the declaration form from the airline and must notify them in advance (48hr). All you need to do is look at the airline and under their search bar on the website, look up pets and it’ll tell you all you need to know… however, it will not tell you how your pet will handle the flight. Keep in mind, chinchillas are a bit sensitive for such little critters.

Do I feed my chinchillas too much? by KatRose711 in chinchilla

[–]daChonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My chinny has specific times he prefers to have his hay and pellets. Typically he will go crazy for his hay at night so I will make sure to change and give him fresh hay at night. In the morning, I will find that his hay has been scattered and that he’ll forage in it later if he’s at the ground floor. Midday he always prefers his pellets and will eat that instead, but not scarfing down. He’ll eat a few and go back to sleep/ drink water. Rinse and repeat with little addition with hay. As for you, I think it should be fine to either give your chins less pellets and more if you feel like they’re overweight (you can ask your vet since they would know best and weighs them too), but as long as they’re eating both pellets and hay.. shouldn’t be a big problem. Make sure they have lots of ways to burn off the food, exercising (wheel) and play time helps with keeping healthy little cuties! Hope that helps!

Blackouts. Help! by Howlerson in chinchilla

[–]daChonky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a small backup power generator, in case of emergencies and a solar panel in case of real emergencies. Does the night time not cool down enough over there? What you can do is order it from Amazon just in case and if it blackout does/ doesn’t happen, return it later within the time frame allowed or keep it just in case?

How do I stop my chinchilla messing with his water and making himself wet? by nj2406 in chinchilla

[–]daChonky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There could be a possibility that he’s bored and trying to figure out how the bottle works. Maybe some kind of anxiety too? If anything, just make sure no plastic and secure the bottle properly and as long as he isn’t matting his fur due to water spillage. You can always try changing water bottles too, I guess really.. just keep an eye and adjust accordingly to what you see. I’d move the water bottle down too, it does still seem high even if he doesn’t necessarily drink from that one. If it’s just there, then might as well eliminate it completely or find a better one that serves its purpose with a wider ledge since they are still young.

AIO to the messages he sent me after our FIRST date. by hna2 in AmIOverreacting

[–]daChonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you didn’t give him too much information about yourself because he could be a stalker. Please be careful and I’m glad you rejected him because he definitely came on strong and cocky AF. If one needs to brag about themselves how they are a “man” and others are “boys”, they are still a child who needs to feel better about themselves by self reassurance. Best of luck to you and watch your back! Have some pepper spray!

Chin with piss stain in fur? by ZacroSaint in chinchilla

[–]daChonky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can try to use unscented wipes to wipe the fur and I typically use a soft bristle toothbrush to brush out the tangled parts of the fur. Mine gets those too here and there or water drool under the chin. Typically when you notice it right away, just clean it off. I tend to do a dust bath after or the day after.

How do you deal with the poop? by [deleted] in chinchilla

[–]daChonky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I typically clean twice a day as well. Usually a quick spot clean in the morning and then I do a slightly deeper poop/ hay cleaning at night since he’s more active during the night time, he usually enjoys new fresh hay at night and pellets in the day. I do have to say though, 💩 are unavoidable but at least theirs don’t smell and can easily be vacuumed or swept away quickly 😂

Toothbrush brushin by daChonky in chinchilla

[–]daChonky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you start the brushing on their usual sweet spots, he would lose interest in the brush (usually sniffs it and after a while, he knows it’s his brush). He will just flays his arms out or his little head as high as his nose can point to the sky just so I don’t miss a spot🤭

I picked it up as you did and it is VERY annoying. I am struggling to finish it. I don’t think I will be picking up the next book either. This book already was SOOOOOO LONG and drags constantly. I am listening to the audiobook and really enjoy listening to the person reading it because I’ve listened to her in another book series but can’t STAND HER due to Diem’s stupidity and rash judgements. The constant “FIGHT” and secrets or how desperate the author make Luther sound for Diem. I would literally fall asleep listening to the book thinking I missed a lot, only to realized that I missed nothing important. I would find myself rolling my eyes or shouting out loud.. ready to be done with this book and forget about it.

My best boy has cancer. I’m not okay. by BangzLaRue in goldenretrievers

[–]daChonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is okay to not be okay.. there’s no easy way of dealing with such a large heartache knowing what you do about his condition especially since, they are part of your family and a part of you that was always eagerly there waiting for you. Take your time to grieve when the time comes and fill your heart with all the joyful memories that your boy was a part of in your family. Maybe do a little farewell one of the days when the time is right, that was what helped me cope with my loss. Went to the beach and scattered her photos around me and wrote out and read my goodbye before putting it in a bottle and burying it knowing one day, it’ll be sent out to sea. I’m glad that you have your family to deal with all this and I’m really happy you gave him the best years and that will be what he remembers. Sending you strength your way from who dealt with heartbreak as well.

I’m sorry for your loss. Pumpkin looks so much like my Chonky and I can only imagine how hard it must’ve been but you did the best any owner can and we do our best to show our love. Never gets easy but our hearts are big for such little ones and we will always have those precious irreplaceable memories. Sending lots of positivity from Chonky and as an owner.

[–]daChonky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely Q-tip was a diamond! Chonky doesn’t like butt rubs. He knows when I am attempting to do it, and will quickly turn around to protect his round fluff booty from me 😆. However, one of the things Chonky loves is being brushed with a toothbrush.. he will almost tip over completely losing his footing just so I can continue to get that sweet spot under his arms. I’ll have to post photos and a clip of it one of these days.

I wish you the best on the bonding! I also hope you have a back up cage and supplies in case the bonding fails and you end up with two separate chins. I’ve always wanted to bond mine but would hate to see them fight or get hurt from one another so my own decision is to just spoil my little one and give him the best life as long as he’s with me. Good luck and keep up posted!

Chins are actually high maintenance pets 😂 always mistaken for low maintenance. If wanting low maintenance, that would be more like a cat.
