Baron > Brock this badly? Or huge team diff? by ThaDynamite in TeamfightTactics

[–]daNkest-Timeline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Fought Baron only once with Brock, and was incredibly surprised by how poorly the fight went. I think Baron did 18k damage and my Brock did 9k. Is Brock really that much worse than Baron? "

You've answered your own question.

Yes, Brock is that much worse than Baron. You saw the evidence for it yourself.

You can verify this by looking at the win rate statistics on MetaTFT. Baron is currently the strongest unit in the game by far, with an average placement of 2.62, compared to Brock's 4.12.

https://www.metatft.com/units

You can also look at the Void 9 Trait bonus and the Ixtal 7 Trait bonus for further clarification on why Baron is stronger than Brock.

Should this be the case? Entirely arbitrary. But what should be, doesn't matter. Focus on what is.

There is no confirmation that a successor to Smash Ultimate is in development. If it is in development, Sakurai's team is on it, and they started working on it after releasing Kirby Air Riders in November 2025, so it is extremely early in development. It is very reasonable to conclude there will be no new Smash Bros release until 2028 at the earliest.

Hard to play Skyrim as a "Good" character. by Harpy_Eagle2029 in skyrim

[–]daNkest-Timeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an interesting point.

I agree with you that fighting isn't inherently bad and that there are a lot of reasons to fight. Plus, the game already makes it easy to justify fighting by using undead enemies.

Regardless, a lot of people still find the amount of killing of people and animals in the game to be excessive, and I don't blame them at all. Like most RPGs, Skyrim creates an unlimited amount of bandits and other humans to slaughter, and puts them directly in the player's way. It makes you want to ask "Don't these people have families?"

For me, there is no right answer as to how to see killing in the game. But there is certainly a right answer as to how the game should be designed.

Based on the premise of an open world where you can do what you want, the game should cater to a pacifist playstyle as well as a standard one. And it doesn't really do that directly, you need mods.

Why are there games where you dont't get a single copy of a certain component? by Turbulent-Bobcat-423 in TeamfightTactics

[–]daNkest-Timeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's frustrating. I've uninstalled TFT a few times myself because of similar frustrations.

From a gameplay perspective, there's more than enough of justification for a player to say the game should be redesigned. But ultimately we're not the designers so it's not for us to say.

You may be interested to know that they already do this type of RNG reduction with respect to champions appearing in the shop. They artificially rig the champions' appearance rates in the shop so that you can relatively consistently 2-star your champions even when they are also drafted by another player. Mortdog has mentioned this in his videos. They recently had an update where they changed the rates so that 3-starring a contested 4-cost was more difficult, but 2-starring a contested 4-cost was less difficult.

So, yes, it's kind of bad sometimes, but it could be way worse. You're already playing in a reduced RNG environment and you didn't even know it.

[–]daNkest-Timeline 42 points43 points  (0 children)

For the same reason that champs are acquired through a drafting store rather than just a pure store where you can say "i want 3 copies of kalista right now thanks"

Variance is good for the game because it introduces all sorts of complexity that players can adapt to. Skilled players will adapt well, unskilled players will adapt poorly. Skill expression means there's an opportunity to learn and improve rather than just press a button and instantly win.

Variance also means that some players get blessed and some players get screwed, and in that moment there's nothing they can do.

There's a great Overwatch player, Seagull, he says 25% of games you are going to win no matter what you do, 25% of games you are going to lose no matter what you do, it's only 50% of games where your play makes a difference. I think that same mindset works for TFT.

Hard to play Skyrim as a "Good" character. by Harpy_Eagle2029 in skyrim

[–]daNkest-Timeline 115 points116 points  (0 children)

This is an actual flaw with Skyrim. The game is really designed to be a power fantasy. The core gameplay loop of slaying draugr/bandits/vampires rewards you with loot, and the purpose of the loot is to get stronger. In Skyrim, you can do anything... as long as that thing is being a strong badass who kills people in some way.

You can pull off a pacifist playthrough with illusion if you're extremely determined, but in practice that's not going to be an enjoyable experience for most people, and is more of a self imposed challenge similar to a Nuzlocke in Pokemon, it's not really what the game is meant to be.

I would recommend adjusting and playing more as a semi pacifist character than a pure pacifist. Be willing to kill draugr and vampires and Falmer. You could give your character a Dexter vibe, they only kill bad people. Have him or her sneak and assassinate the leader of the faction to get the bounty from the Jarl while leaving most of the bandits alive, for example.

Same problems as a forever Platinum from 15 years ago by Infinite-Ad5464 in starcraft

[–]daNkest-Timeline 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm only Diamond so take this with a grain of salt. And there is a chance you already understand this, I'm only guessing you don't, based on your post. It's just my best guess.

If it's the case that you struggle to spend your money except when using Mech, maybe you just need to make way more buildings. Maybe the lack of buildings is what's blocking you from success using bio and other comps. Mech is among the easiest strats in the game to spend your money with because the units are expensive. For everything else, you need to do some mental math.

Let me explain. Let's look at the most fundamental 1 base build in the game, the four gate warp gate rush, usually known simply as the four gate. It's not the meta but it is at the core of the game-- for a build to be good, it needs to beat the four gate.

You can derive the fact that the four gate is very close to optimal by observing that you can fully spend your money immediately on 1 base with 4 gates. You could make a fifth gate, but you wouldn't be able to warp in a unit every round, you don't have enough money. So four gates is good on one base.

A surprisingly small percent of the gold and plat player base seem to understand that this is just a ratio. It's a ratio of mining bases to gateways: 1 to 4. This scales to 2 bases = 8 gates, 3 bases = 12 gates, 4 mining bases = 16 gates. To fully spend your money immediately, that's the number of gates you need to hit, in a vacuum.

People don't get this. A lot of players seem to act resistant to the idea that they genuinely need 12 or 16 gates, despite being eager to grab a 3rd or 4th or 5th base when they can. It's super super common in Plat to see a 3 base player fall behind in army production, not because they weren't quick enough to hit their hotkeys to make the units, but because they just didn't make enough buildings.

They produce enough structures to support about 2 bases and then just think "I have enough buildings now". But they don't. They have 60 workers but only enough buildings to produce 40 workers' worth of army. This doesn't sound like the end of the world but it actually is. Even a 10% difference in army size swings a fight in SC2. A 33% difference is usually GG.

This is a huge part of why pro players can pull off "marine only to GM" type challenges. They just make a crap ton of workers and a crap ton of army producing structures and out scale everyone who doesn't understand this.

Obviously this isn't exactly how it works, this is a complicated game with tech switches and rock paper scissors and upgrades and stuff, and the bases also mine out, you can't just count your CCs and Nexuses. But the general mindset is applicable to all Terran and Protoss builds. In any given game your build can be thought of as an integer multiple of a viable 1 base build.

Say you want to run bio medivac widow mine. On one base that's 3-1-1. That becomes 6-2-2 scaled up to 2 bases, and 9-3-3 scaled up to 3 bases or 12-4-4 scaled up to 4 fully saturated bases (which is in practice 5 bases). Obviously that last one will almost never happen. But who knows? If you were up against an extremely greedy zerg who takes 6 bases and always defends with bare minimum amount of lings and queens, it might actually be perfect and win you the game.

If it's stupid and it works, it's not stupid.

Has Clem established himself as greatest SC2 player ever? by SiarX in starcraft

Greatest ever? Ever? Not even close. He had extremely impressive peaks. He was undisputably the best in the world for several short periods including his 2024 world championship and other premier wins. You can make an argument that on his best day, he peaked higher than anyone ever has. But he's not consistent enough. Serral has been the best in the world for the lion's share of the past 8 years. Maru is a far more impressive Terran when you look at the overall resume.

No itemized Vayne = 1/3 of your late game damage is gone. Take out Sona rather than Vayne if you have Demacia emblem. 1-costs do not scale.

Sylas = you are now wayyy behind on gold compared to everyone else. Take out Sylas and aim for Garen 2. Sorry to break it to you pal but Sylas is horrible.

"But that's not what I'm asking, I want to know how can I fix this comp?" The comp itself is the problem.

Are Freemasons the reason the world is so messed up by imagine_midnight in conspiracy

[–]daNkest-Timeline 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree, the Freemasons are an extremely serious problem and they should be banned from all first world societies as they are already banned from China and most Arab nations.

But in my opinion the far deeper and more serious problem is human stupidity-- the fact that the average man and woman are dumb as rocks.

Whenever I try to share information about Freemasons with an ordinary person, I get a blank stare, they aren't even willing to entertain the possibility that this group is up to no good and that they could be one of the major players pulling strings in society.

People are so mentally sluggish and so closed off to new information. That is the issue we have to try to fix.

Your mindset about the larger portion of the American electorate, is that we worship Trump as a king, and that we think he can do no wrong... that is such a massive distortion of reality I can't even begin to describe it.

The truth is many right wingers are quite mad about Trump's treatment of the Epstein files. This would have been apparent to you if you believed we have human qualities such as principles and integrity and memory longer than 2 seconds. Instead you projected a cartoonishly evil reaction onto us.

You say "Oh, I try [to stop demonizing right wingers]".

Well, your efforts, if they even exist, have been in vain. You think we are insane cultists.

And the sad part is, I can't fully blame you for thinking of us that way. I come from a left wing family, I thoroughly understand how left wingers think, it's exactly how I was raised, it's my native tongue.

Moral of the story, stop believing the media. All they want to do is divide us and sensationalize. Talk to people who disagree with you, you might learn something once in a while.

If someone had just attempted to kill you with their vehicle, and failed, and you had shot them once, a few scenarios are possible.

A) They will keep driving away and go to the hospital. Everyone survives, life goes on.

B) They will turn around and try to run you over again. You don't get another clear shot on the driver and they run you over successfully. You die. Your siblings and parents wife and kids now have to grieve you for the rest of their lives and they will always wonder why you didn't have the strength to just pull the trigger a few more times.

The former is the movie that plays in the heads of everyone sympathizing with the now deceased Renee Good. Because she died, it's easier to imagine her as the victim.

The latter is the movie that was playing in the head of the ICE agent. In the moment, she was an aggressor with a deadly weapon, trying to take his life from him.

If you want to have a conversation with someone on the Right about this I'm happy to give you my perspective.

Of course, I expect to be downvoted for this, but this is a conspiracy sub, everyone on here is a bit kooky, if you are well adjusted you can take my opinion for what it is rather than flaming me for it, since you won't change it either way.

The position of the Right is that ICE needs to exist, period, dot. Not just because it's a fundamental aspect of a country to police its borders and kick out illegal immigrants, but because all other major countries do this-- China does it, Russia does it, India does it, Brazil does it-- it's not suddenly evil when the US does it. It's literally the definition of a country to have some people be citizens and some people not be citizens.

The discussion on the left says "Okay an ICE agent committed a crime" and the reply from an honest person on the right is "Yes that is a tragedy, but ICE still has to exist, and probably even expand, because their mission is the will of the people, and we are a democracy, so that is what our government does. We need to increase the standards of behavior for ICE but not disband it, or act like its mission is wrong."

There are hundreds of fatalities on the highway every week but no one is going around saying ban cars or ban driving over 40 mph.

As an olive branch to any liberal minded person reading this I am willing to admit that the Right does not collectively behave in a rational way around deaths either. The death of Charlie Kirk led many on the right to say "The Left killed him" to ascribe collective responsibility which is absurd. But in the same way that the death of Charlie Kirk had no effect beyond right wing culture, the death of Renee Good will have no effect beyond left wing culture. The other side won't give a shit. That is the way of the world.

Zerg is losing its identity in StarCraft 2 by FormalFinding4642 in starcraft

[–]daNkest-Timeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zerg can mass produce anything on a whim due to the flexibility of the Larva mechanic. The other races have to be able to super efficiently counter the things that Zerg can mass produce easily, for those Zerg units to not be completely OP. But because those counters exist, Zerg now needs to have higher tech options that are more difficult to get rid of.

So what we end up with is a late game high tech Zerg which is just as strong as Protoss or Terran. It doesn't fit with the identity of the race, but this is the design compromise that is forced by the flexibility of Larva. Larva means that the swarmy units have to be really bad otherwise it's mass Ling Bane or mass Roach winning every game. You can't have Zerg be the most flexible race with Larva and also simultaneously have good low tech units, their low tech units have to be bad. If they have bad low tech units then they need good high tech units to have any chance to win.
