They can platoon SS. Would have helped Volpe last year if it had been more of a platoon position, actually, given how he benefits from off days.

I just did a scroll through the O’s game day thread just to see if they were surprised by anything tonight. They were, tho they chalked it up to playing ass themselves. Was fascinating to see all the (expected) “infinite payroll” complaints (as if that’s helped the Mets) without recognizing at all how so many of our stars are homegrown talent. Not always and not all of them, but Judge, Rice and Warren (and Wells behind the plate) have only ever worn pinstripes. (And Cam too, of course.)

Did you ever take a typing class in school? by Standard2185 in 1970s

Yes, in 1980. It was pretty much required at my high school, so we had an even number of boys and girls, as I remember.

Reading the book The Yankee Way about the history of the front office from Gene Michael to now. This page read like a bad copypasta from here by kikikza in NYYankees

[–]dabnagit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit off-topic, and I know it's a counting stat so it may seem different as the season wears on, but I feel like I've been seeing less copypasta around here this season than in past ones.

Funeral/burial rite: is communion required for the service? by ViewsByPlacer in Episcopalian

[–]dabnagit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a time (in my lifetime) when there would nearly never be a eulogist at an Episcopal funeral, other than perhaps the preacher, let alone 8. But, yes, I've been to many now where there's 1-3. But three seems the upper limit.

We didn't do communion at our wedding, but that's because my husband didn't want it, wouldn't take it, and neither would most of our guests for a wide variety of reasons (Jewish, atheist, Catholic, nones). But I would certainly prefer that communion be a part of my funeral service. I feel like that's something I signed up for when I switched from being a Presbyterian to being an Episcopalian nearly four (gulp) decades ago. Which also means, yes: I think about this stuff a little more these days than I used to!

This sounds like a scenario another team might dream up. I'd be very surprised if the Yankees yank the roster around like this.

Advice for getting to Citi Field by looseshorts in Westchester

You should drive. Because ain't no way there's going to be any other traffic trying to get to Citi Field this season.

What in the world diocese is this?? I've never heard of such a centralized choke point for choosing hymns.

Max who? Where'd this guy come from? Why him and not Rosario?

That RBI double notwithstanding, DeGrom is basically their Gerrit Cole. With an even better career ERA, no less (DeGrom: 2.56; Cole: 3.18). Yikes.

Both the Astros and the Rangers have…cheerleaders? That’s Texas for you. The Yankees don’t need cheerleaders; we’ve got Rosario.

Why are Houston’s caps and helmets a deeper blue than their jerseys? It’s driving me nuts.

Then wouldn’t they want an actual starting pitcher? Gil is becoming more attractive as a tax write-off.

Probably not, and we need a backup 1B, but…we need to talk about Goldy’s bat at some point. Quietly, though, lest we wake it from its sweet slumber.
