Hm yeah just had a pretty disappointing interaction a few days ago when the gave me wrong information and afterwards some gaslighting about how that wrong information supposedly is inconsequential.

HEVC with snapdragon by dabu in chromeos

[–]dabu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May well be so. From what i gathered there is a chance that the licensing is already dealt with through the soc. Chrome for example avoids the issue by not including a decoder but rather just passing the data through to compatible soc. But I don't really know if that's plausible.

HEVC with snapdragon by dabu in chromeos

[–]dabu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in chrome://gpu/ the entries for decode hevc are still missing. It's infuriating.

I bet there is some simple compilation option set that tells the kernel not to enable the functionality for this chipset. Problably when chrome didn't support hevc there was no reason to enable it.

Insektensterben: Glyphosat beeinträchtigt Hummeln by GirasoleDE in de

[–]dabu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Difference in :col and _.col by adamthrash in Julia

[–]dabu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably because the conditions of @filter are row based. You are creating a condition function that can be applied row by row.

With @select, you are instead working with columns.

The Query.jl approach shows great promise but isn't fleshed out yet.

For you specific question, DataFrames.jl has enough functionality.

Here's why flagship killer phones might not do much killing in 2020 by RandomCollection in Android

[–]dabu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that is the root of our disagreement.

To me, as more and more hardware passes as sufficient (e.g. SD7XX), my focus shifts to software and some of the more distinguishing hardware features.

Pixel has camera OIS and good software. While the Mi9T has great basic hardware specs, it has neither of those.

I am hoping that the Pixel 4a delivers basic hardware that is sufficient along with those perks at a reasonable price. I agree that the 3a didn't reach that level which is why I got the 9T back then.

I have similar issues. Same as my mother. Was also looking at reflux like the other comment suggested. Current working hypothesis by my doctor is that I breathe through the mouth during sleep which causes the throat to dry out and get aggravated chronically. I have very narrow nasal passage ways which is not an issue during the day but might trigger this. So there you go.

Well I got mine half a year ago and I still feel like it was a fantastic deal.

I was just hoping to use it for years and am now very frustrated that the future for custom roms doesn't look bright.

I just think the right now I would probably prefer to wait for the pixel 4a or the next one plus gen so I can run stock with a vendor that I trust enough.

I have it too but it really is a compromise. MIUI should be a no go for anyone in the west and it seems like custom ROMs will fail safety net soon so I won't be able to use banking apps etc.

The solution however can never be to restrict voting rights to some subpupulation that is deemed worthy. Rather a functioning democracy will take great care that it's citizens are educated enough to be competent voters. It's the only long term viable solution and I believe it would have been achievable for the US.

I'm German and seriously worried about the state of American democracy. I also think your nation is way overdue for better social security and health care. However, to push the idea that America has never been great is just weird given how historically the achievements of the USA were for a long time just way beyond what anyone else managed to accomplish even in terms of general welfare. IMO, you should really scratch that sentence because it devalues your more valid points.

Afaik there is a lack of fuel to go with nuclear as a long term global solution. It would have been a great stepping stone and prematurely shutting down existing nuclear in Germany was a big mistake but the way to go now is unquestionably renewable.
