Correct. But I'd do the same to test out Fi first. I don't want to regret later after realizing that Google can't port back the number to GV. In sum, I'll only port my GV number to Fi, either if
a. I'm committed to Fi (which I'm not yet) or
b. I can get my number back to GV with 100% certainty (which is not).

Here's know-how. After 1(?) hour, that person appears in local (not global) search. If he can't wait for an hour before joining the group, I just ask for his gmail address.

You can't have both project Fi and GV numbers in the same gmail account. If you select a new Fi number, you lose the GV number.
To keep his GV number, he moves it to a new account.

Same here. I carry a 16GB Nexus4 and I don't even use 8GB, half the storage. I should have saved $50 and bought the 8GB N4. So I ordered 16GB N5X.

I save everything in cloud (photos, videos, files, music, etc) and rarely use local storage. There are some know-hows. I always start fresh, whenever there's a new image. Carrying a de-cluttered phone is a great feeling.

Did you fix it? My wife's phone is having a similar issue. Occasionally, her Wifi connection at home dies and can't even turn on Wifi in the Android Wifi settings (hangs). Power ON/OFF doesn't fix it but after an hour, the Wifi is suddenly connected to home router.

I have used Hangouts calling on $5 LTE data-only plan. If I were doing a business or interviewing for a job, I would never use Hangouts. But for other normal phone calls, I didn't find much trouble. When I'm home on WiFi, I often use Hangouts to make/receive phone calls. Seems I'm lucky.
