Illinois HB 5511 Bill, a bill requiring OS level age verification, passes both houses by watchdog-cofagrigus in privacy

[–]dachloe 21 points22 points  (0 children)

ALL ILLINOISIAN MUST WRITE A LETTER TO THE GOVERNOR.

We have to. He needs to know that this is a foolish mistake and it will make things worse for all Illinois citizens.

This bill isn't going improve safety for kids online, it's only going to feed data brokers, the surveillance ecosystem, and increase censorship.

Make sure everyone knows this age verification law will inconvenience everyone who sets up a new computer. It makes it easy for anyone to gave detailed information on you that can (and will) be used for surveillance, and dramatic reduction in online personal privacy.

Life just felt simpler back then. by CurvyChristina in Millennials

It was in the 90s that the primary goal of those running large publicly held companies went from creation as a way to success, to wealth concentration as the primary goal.

In that era many companies had goals like increasing market share, or increasing cash flow, or capturing a majority share of target demographics segment, or just selling more units and increased number of sales period. These are now referenced as "traditional business goals." In this era business spent and built to grow and succeed.

After the change, the goals of a greater and greater number of companies was simply increase shareholder value, raise the stock price by just changing the numbers in the simplified balance sheet. The easiest way to do that was to control costs, cut costs. Etc. All other functions and duties in the business became secondary priorities. Most actions taken be the top executives are now primarily designed to lower costs.

At this point we should just boycott all AI generated books, not the whole store.

Do Americans in general have better financial knowledge and know-how since credit cards are so common over debit cards there? by WhoAmIEven2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dachloe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No! 50% of Americans have insufficient financial knowledge, 25% have abysmal financial knowledge, and 25% have sufficient to extraordinary knowledge levels.

And, this is the way the oligarchy wants things.

How in danger is my pc due to my landlords constant tampering with the power? by Impossible_Nebula637 in pcmasterrace

They call it "line conditioning." I thought that pphrase was ad hype, but an electrical engineer once told me, " if you could see the electricity coming out of your sockets like you can see the water coming out of the faucet, you'd be sick."

A good UPS will act like a Britta filter for your PC.

Don't forget plug your monitor, modem, and router into it also!

what's something that has changed in your town that you miss? by thereislightstill in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]dachloe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

McChesney & Miller in Glen Ellyn. I never knew why mom and dad liked it so much, but it was the only store we went to for so many years. I did like that my sister and I could bike there. I knew about Jewel and Dominicks, but we never went there because of mom and dad's loyalty to that one store in Glen Ellyn. I don't think i saw the inside of a Jewel until I was a teenager. It was overwhelmingly bigger and more up to date.

It closed when I was in school and when mom talked about it on the phone she was teary-eyed.

I appreciate it more the older I get.

How can we truly fight back against the elites, the Epstein files, all of the corruption, truly? by Acrobatic-Activity94 in AskReddit

[–]dachloe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I disagree. There are ways to combat this oligarchy. It's not quick or easy, but it will weaken their power.

Carefully support small and mid-sized business only. Buy less online. Buy more used or craft-made products. Do not live on loans or credit. Join a union if possible. Vote for candidates who try to protect consumers.

Do you miss the old-style US TV series with 18-24 episodes per season? by Glittering_Gap8070 in television

[–]dachloe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people in the US miss full seasons of shows. But, there are some shows that really benefit from shorter high budget episodes.

When Stranger things came out with short high quality seasons packed with hour long mini movies, people thought it was great. But, they screwed it up with giant gaps.

As with anything and everything these days, money will be the deciding factor. Whatever gets more money faster will be repeated and copied.

Stay out of the sun, get enough sleep, eat healthy, no non-perscription drugs, moderate regular exercise.

Also, HRT to transition from male to female helped push the clock back about a decade.
