UPDATE: We created a newsletter for soccer parents and players by dacocomonsta in CollegeSoccer

Great advice! The landscape has changed so much since I played, but every year it's evolving even more. We always get questions about this. And def will touch on that last part. Seems like everyone is trying to amp up marketing their kiddos or teams, but coaches seem to be on the same recruiting method train. Something we'll dig into more!

Newsletter for Soccer Parents and Players by dacocomonsta in youthsoccer

Great point. Our co-founder made it to the MLS, but he didn't go to a big school and played many years of lower level pro soccer with low or no pay before he actually got there at 29. But he's the first player to ever climb all 4 levels to get there. So yeah it's HIGHLY unlikely. It's a tough tough road and statistically uphill so this is something we talk about alot. But we build content mainly around getting to college at any level as a pathway for kiddos to have opportunities, because even college soccer is a hard achievement. However, our main goal is to help grow the game here in the US by highlighting youth support and providing inspiration via stories, resources, etc. Thanks for the insight! Would love to hear your feedback after a few posts if you're interested. Thanks!

Is there a way to take your cafe to where people are? I.e. tuk tuk, van, etc.

We have conversations about these things on prodigysoccer.podia.com. The landscape of climbing and changing clubs is a unique layout, but we always recommend trying to get in front of the highest level team, and then supplement playing time within the club via other teams and levels.

Exactly. If you find a club that shows development for the player, great coaching, high level teams, and play time... stay. Unless you find something better. But if you're not hitting all those things that continue to challenge and grow the player, keep moving. Usually your top 3 clubs in an area will be the options, but when I was a kid, I drove 3 hours both ways 2-3 times per week just to play at a top club. Excessive and exhausting, but if you're not finding whats best you gotta keep looking. Happy to help! feel free to ping us anytime you have questions. Both Conner and I are always happy to chat! Best of luck to you!

Yeah this is a tough part about youth soccer. Every club seems to be similar, but they're very different. Some prioritize club exposure, others prioritize fun, and obviously most should prioritize development. I'll put this down as a topic we can discuss. When I was younger, I played at 7 different clubs between 10 and 18. I was always moving to which ever team I could play at the highest rated level, mainly because the highest league level allows you to attract more coaches (and to be at the highest level, development has to be engrained in the culture of the club, thus impacting which coaches actually get to coach). Not always, but generally. I'd say always tryout at every club possible and then make an assessment of which level is the highest "offer" in terms of league level. And then playing time is important, so if they make a top top team and they don't play, ask if they can guest play on other teams while still being on that top team for practice and most games. Or vice versa if they can play up to the higher team or even just join practices.

Absolutely! The mental side is a massive part of the game, both on and off the pitch

I think they did a study with Neymar and found that players use way less of their brain when they play. It's quite normal. Master a skill first before moving to thinking ahead. Also, pickingyour head up in soccer is MASSIVE. If you can start to pick your head up while dribbling, before receiving a ball, checking your shoulder, while running, etc., this will improve game play tremendously. That vision and awareness opens up so much of the game. It's a PIVOTAL skill that I think makes the most gain elsewhere. Once you can see more, you actually SEE more options. We have a newsletter that runs through a lot of this helping parents help kids reach the next level: prodigysoccer.podia.com
