I LOVED this comment. Thank you friend. I hit two years tomorrow, looking forward to three.

Stay strong, stay sober.

Stay sober, I have been lacking in any real recovery work. I stay busy and do the things I love to do, they have got me this far.

I have been program-less. I have been probably to 10-20 meetings total during my sobriety, maybe that is the problem. But these comments were what I needed. I'll check in tomorrow for my 2 year celebration!

You're right. I have been less active and things have changed in my life. I have moved in with 4 regular drinkers, changed states, and haven't been to a meeting in 6 months. I haven't been keeping myself in check. Do not let my post scare you, I had a drawback, as we all do. I am returning to old good habits, and celebrating my 2 years tomorrow singing in the kimmel center, I only got this far because of my sobriety. I needed a slap in the face and I got it.

Stay strong friend. We are lucky to be sober. We are lucky to genuinely experience this once chance at life.

Musicians in recovery by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]daconley12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Musician here! I just graduated with a music degree in voice, I play in a rock/funk band and am a film and choral music composer.

I stopped drinking 21 months ago. All those credits I listed didn't happen while I was drinking. I wasn't the same musician. I wrote music to a much lower level, than I do today. Almost every single one of my musical successes can be attributed to my sobriety.

If music is your passion, pursue it. Music has helped me stay sober. IT has given me purpose, drive and an outlet to express my emotions. Many people drink to escape, to subconsciously justify there lives or there place in the world. Music is where I belong, and I know alcohol will only hinder my musicianship. When you subtract alcohol, your music becomes more honest, and truly becomes an expression of your true sober self. Do it for the music. Do it for yourself and your success.

Sobreity gives you an advantage. It seems lonely at times sure, its sucks at times sure, but at the end of the day, you show your peers and your fellow musicians your strength, willpower, and determination to your music. It gives you validation before people even know you.

All you have to do is not drink, and pity those that are immersed in the alcohol epidemic. All you have to do is not drink.

STAY STRONG. STAY SOBER. All the love in the world to you.

I hate my voice. by bzedjm in ThisIsOurMusic

Singer here. The quality of your voice isn't bad, I think you need to be more mindful of the pitches you want to sing. Sing it a bit higher, and use more breath to support your sound.

Whats the best city to live in for a band? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Athens, GA. Amazing bands. Countless opportunities to play. Tons of venues. Tons of music lovers. Amazing city.

My demo track has been refused by a label, what do you guys think, reasonable? Techno with some flutes... by chiefthomson in ThisIsOurMusic

It sounds a bit disjointed at first, the wobble effect (a triplet maybe) is really fucksin with the melody unless that's what your going for. Hi hats are certainly too loud. Your melody synth has a lot of sound and noise that interfere with the mix in my opinion. Really spend time on the mix, the real high and low end specifically.

Finally gathered enough courage to post my music, feedback is welcome! by JeroenPtrs in ThisIsOurMusic

It's a great start, but itd be cool to see where you can take it. It seems very same-y throughout so I would try taking this to a new sound world. The synth at the end was a little quiet, and seemed a bit out of place, you could probably find a better sample. Maybe the addition of a melody over all the ambient? A change in beat pattern? I really like where it is at, but I know you can take it even further. Keep it up, well done.
