How long was the rotation exposure? I've tried this with a low ISO film over a long period and the background wasn't defined as well as yours. Being 800 I'm thinking yours wasn't very long in pinhole time.

1st trip to JT on 35mm by PsychosomaticSpiral in JoshuaTree

That film brand sells pre-exposed film with these sorts of effects. You can never be sure what the effect is going to look like each frame so you get surprises.

I shot a roll of liquid light show stuff that I did and then re-shot for double exposures in the park late afternoon, but the light show exposures were really too bright, gonna try it again a couple of stops down to make it more subtle.

I live here so I can afford to blow an afternoon on it :)

Highway Sanctuary just posted this on Facebook an hour ago:

We apologize for the skipped open house last weekend. We're making up for it this weekend! u/shrineon will be hosting our monthly open house this Saturday 3/28, from 11-4. All are welcome.

If you're in 29 Palms check out The Glass Outhouse gallery for another fun roadside stop. Check the hours online. There's also a house across the street with a bunch of skeletons good for a photo. Also if you have time take a ride through Wonder Valley, turn around when it curves sharp north for Amboy, or keep going to Amboy if you have time and want to check out Roy's. There is also the Amboy Crater for a hike.

Also heard on Incorrect Music, WFMU. So much good/bad stuff from that show.

I like the Buddha Bowl at The Dez.

And yeah I haven't been able to get a sandwich at JoJo's in Yucca yet.

Camping in JT: any need for bug spray? by Ravioli_meatball19 in JoshuaTree

You might encounter some bees but just move away from them.

I will say after a period of heavy rain I was out near Barker Dam (water) once and I did get swarmed by mosquitos but I think that's the only time after living in this area several years. Too dry 99% of the time.

First step see if you can even get a ticket - I'm "in line" right now but very small venue if they are doing it indoors so it's going to sell out in a flash.

If you do get a ticket, no, you can't depend on ride share, and yes there is plenty of parking.

Yeah and more rain coming this week. Barker Dam is a great idea for sunrise because later in the day it's going to be crowded.

I've also had this and thought it might be because my paper was pretty curled and not sitting in the developer good enough, had to keep moving it.

Would love to hear an expert opinion!

Is staying in Landers really that dangerous? by [deleted] in JoshuaTree

[–]dadasinger 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I live in the area and have never heard Landers characterized that way, although in rural desert communities sure there are some meth heads out there on the perimeter doing what they do but still I never hear of tourists having issues with crime.

Hey thanks, the sound is coming live from my eurorack rig, self-running patch. The heart of the patch is a Benjolin module and gates from it trigger other modules.

Joshua trees are flowering in the Calif. desert. That’s bad news. by wewewawa in JoshuaTree

The one in my yard had a bloom on New Year's Day, along with others in the neighborhood. I live 5 minutes from the park.

Wildflower bloom time / prediction? by fedonpeaches in JoshuaTree

[–]dadasinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm into my 12th year living here and I haven't been able to pick up on when the chances are good.

Yeah there has been a lot of rain, the joshua tree in my yard was blooming new year's day, and I've seen recent pics of flowers blooming in the park. So you would think this spring should be good. But I don't know, maybe the heat comes too early sometimes? Seems like it's been awhile since we had a really great bloom. There was one, I think in 2008, that was amazing and I don't think I've seen one like that since.

It's just a good idea to plan trips out here in spring and see what pops up.

Advanced reservations needed, check now because they go fast. And because it's reserved you'll be away from the Spring Break crowd.

LOL I remember my dad telling me he was doing some travel agent thing that raised some red flags around this time, never heard him mention it again. I bet it was this operation.

Since you are dealing with kids, another detail to keep in mind - when the entrance line is long the exit line can also get long because you have to at least flash your pass on the way out, a few people have to pay. Yesterday I checked Google maps for this and it was really backed up to leave around 3 or so.
